La Salle has had a full week off to prep for this one. They were supposed to play Wednesday but their opponent (Davidson) went on COVID pause this week.

Re: 2022-2023 Women's Basketball Season
The Rams next game is Sunday against La Salle at the RC.
Currently 9-7, 0-1 A10.
Another veteran team that returns 5 starters from last season.
They have plenty of depth with 11 players averaging double-digit minutes.
They haven't been a great outside shooting team 29.5 % 3PT and also have a negative assist/turnover ratio.
Their 2 leaders:
Spruill- 1st Team A10 (21-22), averaging 13 pts this season.
C. Jacobs - Also averaging 13 pts, in 20-21 was 3rd Team A10.
Also one of 3 Jacobs sisters on the team from Australia.
Starting PG Masciantonio had missed 5 games earlier with an injury.
Initially I thought La Salle would be one of the top teams in the conference.
But they are struggling a bit this season.
I expect us to win this game at home in a close battle.

Davidson game with LaSalle was Thursday 11am that was cancelled and Davidson has now cancelled Sundays game vs Richmond. Neither game will be made up. A10 goes by winning percentage in the standings now for Tournament seeding.SmartyBarrett wrote: ↑1 year agoLa Salle has had a full week off to prep for this one. RHODE ISLAND VS. LA SALLE - SERIES NOTES
Sunday's game will be the 40th all-time between La Salle and Rhode Island.
The Explorers have a 29-10 advantage in the series, but the Rams have won the last three games against La Salle.
The last time the two teams faced was a season ago on Feb. 7. The Rams defeated the Explorers 66-60 in Philly.
The game will be the second A-10 matchup for La Salle and the third for Rhody. The Explorers were scheduled to face Davidson last time out but the game was called off due to health and safety protocols within the Davidson program.
Rhode Island won its first two league games against Duquesne and Massachusetts while La Salle fell to Saint Joseph's in its league opener.
Head coach Tammi Reiss is 3-1 all-time against La Salle.
The game is set to air nationally on CBS Sports Network with Chick Hernandez and Leah Secondo on the call.
NEW YEAR, NEW SEASON
Rhode Island started the A-10 season with a win over Duquesne New Years Eve.
The Rams rang in 2023 with a victory over the Dukes, followed by a big road win over Massachusetts last time out.
Rhody is now 2-0 in the Atlantic 10 for the second straight year.
PROTECT THIS HOUSE
Rhode Island has not lost at the Ryan Center this season.
The Rams are 7-0 in Kingston.
Over the last four seasons, head coach Tammi Reiss has led Rhody to a 36-8 record at the Ryan Center, building a true home court advantage.
In the four years before Reiss arrived in Kingston, the Rams were 15-39 at home.
FORECAST CALLS FOR RAINING THREES
Rhode Island shot the lights out against Massachusetts, scoring 24 points in fourth quarter to hand the Minutewomen a 75-68 loss last time out. Rhody shot 14-of-30 from beyond the arc in the win.
Three Rams connected on at least three 3-pointers, led by sophomore Sophie Phillips (5-of-7).
Grad transfers Madison Hattix-Covington (4-of-8) and Sayawni Lassiter (3-of-7) also let it fly from long range, adding 17 and 13 points, respectively.

Good win over a good LaSalle team picked preseason to finish 2nd
Excellent defense today forced LaSalle to take a lot of bad shots to beat the shot clock. Relentless defense by all URI players. Good team D helping each other out when needed.

Ramster, so far it seems you were right, and I underestimated how good the WBB team is this season.
They are really playing well, and I give Tammi major props.
Plus, next season they may even be better, love the direction this program is going.

Re: 2022-2023 Women's Basketball Season
Our next game is Thursday 1/12 at SLU.
They are currently 5-13 (1-2 A10)
SLU is led by:
McMakin- Senior transfer (Longwood) was 3-time 1st Team Big South, currently averaging about 18 points.
Flowers - A 6'5" center averaging 10 pts/ 7.4 rebs.
Martinez- Averaging 9 pts/ 7.5 rebs.
I expect a win on the road here for Rhody.

URI expands the lead down the stretch and wins 76-65. Emmi Rinat poured in 23 for the Rams, hitting four 3-pointers. Toure, Hattix-Covington and Lassiter had 14 each. In her return to the lineup, Dolly Cairns came off the bench, scoring 7 and playing 21 minutes. Toure also led the team with 10 boards, but had 8(!) turnovers.

St. Louis played well, much better than I expected.
Emmi Rinat with her best game ever for URI and we needed it tonight. She tied her career high points of 23 but that was against an inept Hartford team that we easily rolled over. Emmi was unconscious shooting.
We share 1st place with St Joseph's as we are both 4-0
The two St Joseph's games will be huge

The refs called many traveling and moving screen infractions on both teams. URI's foul shooting was great. URI outscored SLU by 1 point in each of the first three quarters before pulling away in the 4th quarter. I didn't notice Phillips on the court. 21 TOs by URI is far too many. Dolly didn't seem on her game recovering from a concussion. Tammi was not happy with the play.

Re: 2022-2023 Women's Basketball Season
Rhody hosts Loyola/Chicago on Sunday.
They are currently 6-11 and on a 3 game A10 losing streak.
The Ramblers haven't been a very good shooting team 38% (FG) and 29% (3pt).
Also they have a negative assist/turnover ratio (193/270)
Team leaders backcourt are:
Chandler - Averaging 11.4 pts, 2021 MVC FOY
Galanappoulos- Averaging 10 pts, 2020 MVC All Freshman Team
Brown - Averaging 7.5 pts
Upfront they have:
Tanin - Averaging 8.5 pts/ 5 rebs, 2021 MVC All Freshman Team
S. Nolan - Averaging 8 pts.
I expect a comfortable win for Rhody.

RAMS LOOK TO STAY PERFECT AT HOME
- The Rams have not lost at home this season.
- Rhody is 8-0 in Kingston. The eight wins at the Ryan Center have already cracked the top-10 all-time.
- Over the last four seasons, head coach Tammi Reiss has led Rhody to a 37-8 record at the Ryan Center, building a true home court advantage.
- In the four years before Reiss arrived in Kingston, the Rams were 15-39 at home.
- Over the last two conference games at home, the average attendance is 1,222.

But I’ll add that Brooke Phillips is a tremendous defensive center. Phillips was A10 Defensive Player of the Year last season. She easily leads the A10 in blocked shots nearly double the 2nd place blocked shots person. Phillips is a favorite for Defensive POY this season as well imho.
Phillips at 6’5” was a good learning experience for Toure.
Toure did not back down, played Phillips tough and did not shy away from taking it to the hoop.
Tammi and for sure her staff do a lot with individual coaching of the players. No doubt the shots Toure had blocked and her turnovers and her play vs Phillips gets reviewed. She is continuing a rapid improvement pace.
Phillips and Toure are the top 2 in the A10 in FG% for the full year. It was fun to watch them compete against one another.

I thought Tammi coached a great game. Loved how she played Rinat more minutes than norm because she was so hot. She saw Emma was on and rode the hot hand resulting in Emma having her best game as a Ram and helped us win the game.Rhody72 wrote: ↑1 year ago The refs called many traveling and moving screen infractions on both teams. Phillips played fewer minutes because she was struggling to get her shot off plus Emma was red hot. Tammi manages the game situations and minute distribution well but clearly her top priority is to win the game. She learns from her mistakes and very humbly admits when she makes mistakes.

Loyola played the way URI played before Tammi. Tammi is a magnet for good players. URI has a ways to go before we are a candidate for Top 25. This is Tammi's fourth year and we "might" make the NCAAT as an at-large selection. It takes time to build a winner whether its men's or women's basketball.

Re: 2022-2023 Women's Basketball Season
- Freshman Anaelle Dutat had 13 rebounds in 19 minutes while Maye Toure had 15 rebounds in 21 minutes
- Dutat had 6 offensive rebounds which was 1 more than Loyola’s Team total of 5
- Anaelle’s 13 rebounds were 1 less than her career high of 14 vs PC in November
- Anaelle received the player of the game award
Anaelle scored only 2 points but had strong rebounding and defense. Love how Tammy recognized this effort in awarding POTG showing how much she appreciated the rebounding and overall play
A great manager rewards the behavior they want to see and want teammates to see.
So much emphasis on points scored even more today with NIl and Transfer leniency.
Tammy is coaching her best right now. Really has this group playing as a team and having fun

Tammi is like URI Womens Basketball's Tom Penders. They just need to make sure she is happy $$$ wise, and this team is going to build and build and build and be good for a very long time.
So impressed by the job she has done with this team, I told my wife over the weekend we have to get some tickets for a Sat game to bring our 6 year old to.

Re: 2022-2023 Women's Basketball Season
She called a time out with about a minute left and all the subs in. She spent two minutes coaching them as if the game was on the line. Mapping out a play etc. She has an incredible amount of energy. Need to try to get to more of their games.

Re: 2022-2023 Women's Basketball Season
Tammi signed a 10 year contract for $425K per year and bought a house in EG for over a million bucks. I think she's happy with her financial situation right now.jcru wrote: ↑1 year ago Tammi is like URI Womens Basketball's Tom Penders. They just need to make sure she is happy $$$ wise, and this team is going to build and build and build and be good for a very long time.
So impressed by the job she has done with this team, I told my wife over the weekend we have to get some tickets for a Sat game to bring our 6 year old to.
I also think - make that know - she is building a winning culture here in Kingston. Her team plays with more skill, discipline and determination than the men, and are far more entertaining to watch.

Rhody will host Richmond on Wed. night.
They are currently 11-5 (1-2 A10)
The Spiders are a veteran team and return 4 starters from last season.
Team leaders include:
Budnick - A10 2nd team 2022, currently averaging 14 pts (49% FG)/ 6 rebs.
Hill - Averaging 11 pts/ 5 rebs.
Townsend - Also averaging 11 pts/ 5 rebs,/ and over 4 assists, shooting 47.6% 3pt.
Ryan- Averaging 10.5 pts.
Krista-Grava - Grad transfer big from Wagner. 3-time 1st team ALL- NEC (20,21,22), averaging 8 pts.
This game will be much more competitive than the last one, but I expect us to win.

There is at least one game left I can go to with my wife and son, I'm going to get some tickets.
