Re: ‘20 TN PF/C - Akeem Odusipe
I think an example that is similar is what happened with the Hausser brothers at Marquette. Those two were slated to be on a top 15 team in the country this past year and decided to transfer. Keep in mind, Sam Hausser transferred with just 1 year of eligibility left. I would speculate they transferred because Markus Howard was taking 20 shots a game and would often shoot his team out of games. Not saying that’s why they transferred, but it may be a similar situation to what we’re seeing here with fatts. Players may feel they do not have the opportunity to develop when one player is taking a massive share of a teams offensive production.sf2010 wrote: ↑4 years agoThis line of thinking on Fatts just seems completely absurd. Guy averaged 19pts, 4.5ast (better than 2:1 ast-to), 3 stls per game while shooting with much-improved efficiency. AND we had a Senior point guard who was controlling the ball just as much as Fatts. Some of y'all are acting like Fatts was let loose like a bull in a china shop while every just stood around watching. This revisionist history is unbelievable. What evidence is there that Fatts just did "whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted"?Rhody15 wrote: ↑4 years agoThat’s what my thinking as been all along. Players are unhappy Cox gave the keys to the car to Fatts and let him do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted.rambone 78 wrote: ↑4 years ago We could get Murray, Akeem, and who knows who else, and wonder how long they will be here.
It's hard to believe that ALL of our players who left were dysfunctional teammates.
Or could Fatts or Cox's deference to him be the problem?
Just guessing on that one, not saying I believe that.

Re: ‘20 TN PF/C - Akeem Odusipe
Fatts and Jeff split on-ball duties - and that's something I thought they both did a phenomenal job of this year. How many teams have two guys averaging 5 assists with better than 2:1 ast-to ratios?Rhody15 wrote: ↑4 years ago
The evidence is taking your back to back conference champ and back to back NCAA tournament winning point guard and moving him off the ball and giving it to Fatts.
The evidence is Fatts literally doing whatever he wanted in the Harvard game when he completely ignored Cox and did his own thing (yes he made the game winner.)
Harvard game - yeah Fatts took the game into his own hands for that one possession and how many folks were praising his confidence and clutchness in doing so?

Neither one of them averaged over 5 assists a game the last two years.sf2010 wrote: ↑4 years agoFatts and Jeff split on-ball duties - and that's something I thought they both did a phenomenal job of this year. Jeff averaged over 5 assists during his sophomore year then took a sharp decline over his next two years.
I know I’m in the minority with my train of thought, it’s just my opinion.

Re: ‘20 TN PF/C - Akeem Odusipe
So Martin left because he was only getting 11 shots a game to Fatts’ 15? And Toppin left because he was going to get Martin’s 11 shots and that wasn’t enough?

Dowtin was (could have been) one of the best point guards for URI.

Re: ‘20 TN PF/C - Akeem Odusipe
We were shorthanded at guard so Dowtin had to play off the ball way more than he should have.
Of course Cox thought that Sheppard would be eligible so that wouldn't have happened, but it did.
And Hammond left. Mistakes were made.

Would be nice to get Odusipe! Time will tell. We have a coach who can develop players according to Hassan, one of the best bigs to ever play at URI, so why not...

Don’t believe WV or Georgia would accept a commitment.
The question is were the late offers from Vandy and Maryland backed up with commitments.

URI lost out on Akeem with the commitment of the Mitchells.

Akeem got what he wanted in the end. P5 close to home.

Just another example of a kid going P5 because of the school and/conference when they have no business being at that level. I expect a down transfer.

Re: ‘20 TN PF/C - Akeem Odusipe (Vanderbilt)
I think decisions like these used to be a mistake under the older, more punitive transfer rule forcing the one year sit. Now guys like Odusipe can go and try and crack it at a P5 for no penalty.
The new transfer rule in general is something I struggle with. I'm pro student athlete rights (screw the NCAA), but as a consumer of the game all this transferring sucks.

The irony is if he came here and played really well there would be a bunch of P5s lining up.

He can rebound, run the floor - if he can shoot FT we should recruit him.

Re: ‘20 TN PF/C - Akeem Odusipe (Vanderbilt)
Eh, Vanderbilt isn't exactly a typical SEC team when it comes to a P5 conference. If he's only logging 56 minutes there for the year, absent an injury, I actually think he needs to transfer lower than a URI to make an impact. Vanderbilt somehow had 17 players on its roster, and 14(!) of them started at least one game. He was one of the three who didn't.

Yeah I saw him play a couple times. He'd go out there look lost and foul people.SGreenwell wrote: ↑3 years agoEh, Vanderbilt isn't exactly a typical SEC team when it comes to a P5 conference. Sure, but remember that he will still be a freshman and has four years left to develop.
He overshot his mark by going P5 for sure but the physical traits are similar to Cyril.
An open scholarship should be viewed as a lottery ticket IMO.
It does not have to be this player in particular but some depth at the 4-5 would be on my wish list.

I can't even remember the last one of those players that panned out for us, though. Michaels Tertsea and Lessyard passed through the program without playing any minutes, so you'd probably have to go back to the Baron era for a guy like Will Martell. Does Andre Berry count? It took him a bit to get used to the "speed" of Atlantic 10 defense, let's say.rhodyblue12 wrote: ↑3 years ago Sure, but remember that he will still be a freshman and has four years left to develop.

Andre Berry definitely counts. Came from JUCO though.

Re: ‘20 TN PF/C - Akeem Odusipe (Vanderbilt)
My concern is that he would be a “freshman” who has already transferred. It is potentially a 4 year risk that he can’t play (yes I know we can screw the kid and tell him to leave sooner and make him sit out a year but that won’t win any future transfer contests). Other than that I agree why no add some depth at the 4/5 spot. I consider the twins juniors as I do not expect them to stay here post-grad. They will explore pro-options or move up a conference.rhodyblue12 wrote: ↑3 years ago Sure, but remember that he will still be a freshman and has four years left to develop.

Re: ‘20 TN PF/C - Akeem Odusipe (Vanderbilt)
Very nice pick-ups by Kent State. Garcia had decent stats at Georgia, could be an impact player in the MAC, same with Akeem who is a good prospect.
Kent State also signed transfers Sincere Carey who was a starting PG at Duquesne and of course our own DJ Johnson.
They may make some noise in the MAC 21-22.
