I was just thinking. St. Joe's has always had the refs in their pocket.
Somehow, we have to duplicate what we did today, only actually make
some free throws.
The way we're going, this could wind up being our biggest surprise season
since
Penders' first year here. We went from a 20 loss team to a 20 win NIT team.
Instant respectability, and a team that reflected its coach.
History is now repeating itself.

Oh, and this from the RU board:
"Hurley's team is a street ball team.Tough, lock down D.They're young. The lefty sophomore Mathews killed us with silky smooth shooting.Their perimeter D shut down our 3's.They are noted for that.Hurley's team was the best I've seen in the A-10 this season. They grind and are physical. They will be going to Big Dance and will likely be an 8 seed. They have real ballers on their team unlike Broad Street who are well disguised cage fighters not real ballers."

An 8 seed? Bah humbug!

Who wants to play the #1 seed in the 2nd round?

;)

Rod, I read that quote from the UR board too. They know they were lucky to even be in the game at the end.

Ain't that the truth. I don't think there is another venue in the A-10 where the home team gets more calls from the refs than Hawk Hill. It happens there nearly every time Rhody plays there. I can still remember Al Skinner getting T'd up just for taking off his blazer and throwing onto his chair back.

We have to be at least 10 points better than them, to win there.

If it's close, it will be tough. Bembry will try and take the team on his back like Anthony did today.

The issue there, isn't whether they call it tight [like today] or let them play.

It's whether they call things EVEN. They might for the first half, then all hell breaks loose in the 2nd half.

Martelli sprinkles his magic pixie dust on the refs at halftime, and then.....

We will just have to find a way to tough it out and win, again.

This should probably go to the St. Joe's thread when it's established, but do you think EC will have a little extra motivation playing his co-ROY Bembry?

74, maybe, but I'm hoping that EC has no aftereffects with his foot, and is ready for another big effort.

I think we'll see Terrell play better offensively, and maybe Gil if he's OK.

Stay out of foul trouble if at all possible, and please make at least two thirds of our FT's.

Rosie, the brawl was in Old Dominion's place.
Clause English was taking on people coming out of the stands,
and Wilds was in the middle of everything as usual.
Kraft's teams played with extreme attitude.

Bembry's tough to stop because he can do it all. Scores, rebounds, assists, steals. The only thing he's not good at, is shooting FT's. Go figure.

I think as long as we keep any other player from having a really good game, we should be OK.

Bembry will get his, just make him work really hard for his points. They have no depth, he'll play the full 40 even if he gets 2 fouls early [which he rarely does].

He tends to wear down late trying to do it all sometimes, that will work for us.

I was much more worried with this game than I am for St. Joe's but still, it's a road conference game, and they have a great player in Bembry.

The free throw bugaboo raised its ugly head again and almost cost them a victory today. Keep the turnovers to a minimmand make some free throws and come out of Philly with the W. Can't take any silly fouls either because the refs will be throwing in some phantom calls t boot.

Was there a player named Mark Wade from ODU involved? I remember this slightly.

Kraft's teams were physical. I remember seeing the 78 team at Marvel Gym sitting on floor. Were they tough. I even remember Gavitt saying they are like an NBA team with their physicality.

Bembry is pretty sick, particularly a play their last game where he tried to go baseline and dunk it on the other side of the rim. He missed it and kind of was fouled and ended up on the floor. What happened next? The other team was on a fast break..... Bembry got up, flew down the court and blocked somebody's shot off the glass.

Must be the fro.

Yeah Richmond is a fairly decent team. Unless we play St. Joe's like we did Fordham, there's no way they're beating us. Chris Wilson is also good for them. I watched them play Gonzaga earlier in the year and they got beat 94-42. They sure looked like doodoo that day. But they've looked okay at times. They'll probably have a lot of energy and we gotta match it and let our defense destroy them.

We barely beat Duquesne and Fordham on the road. St. Joe's is better than both of them. Can't take anything for granted.

Very good win for our Rams. I don't care if they're ugly, wins are always pretty :-)

Impressed by the whole team. Nearly everybody brought something (get well soon, Gil!!). Jarelle played well, energy and rebounding. Earl with a huge stickback, Biggie made some really nice plays, Hassan was tremendous, and EC hit some really big shots. We can win in a lot of different ways, but I really liked hearing how the coaching staff got the team to focus on shutting down one element of the oppositions offense (3pt shooting in this one) and the players were able to execute. Gotta adjust, and give a solid performance on Wednesday. St. Joe's is dangerous. Bembry will most likely get his - need to shut down the supporting cast.

Bembry is a better matchup for URI than Anthony was. Terrell, TJ and Reischel all match up pretty well against him.

URI is the team no one wants to play because they get beat up. URI is physical and relentless. Just like their coach. Love it.

Could it change? A10 game or 2 pop up midweek nationally.

We know how each player ended up on the roster, but wow, our athleticism in terms of muscle is just special for our league.

And to think that these kids are young, they will only become more.

Iggy, you're right. The UR posters on their board made mention of that. A lot.

Of course, the refs reverted back to when they supposedly changed the rules about hand checking on defense.

Touch fouls galore. Unfortunately, that's what they always call on us, when we play at St. Joes.

I expect more foul troubles Wednesday night. Hopefully we can overcome that again.

We thought that the refs had stopped calling those type of fouls. Maybe it was just home cooking for Anthony. Let's hope so.

It's fun as long as it's used for the right purposes.
