So I wanted to take a closer look at both teams' resumes last year to see if we truly did get hosed. We were both 7-4, Delaware made the playoffs, we missed them.
The case for Rhode Island
We were 5th in the standings with a 5-3 record, Delaware was tied for 6th with Towson and Villanova with a 4-4 record.
Vs. common opponents we had a 2-1 record, Delaware had a 1-2 record. We both lost at William & Mary, we lost 31-30, they lost 27-21. We beat Elon at home 17-10, Delaware lost at home 27-7. We beat Monmouth 48-46 at Monmouth, Delaware beat Monmouth at home 49-17. In our three games our score differential vs. common opponents was +8, Delaware's was +6.
Vs. neutral CAA opponents who made the playoffs (William & Mary, New Hampshire, Richmond, and Elon) we had a 1-2 record with a +3 score differential. Delaware was 0-3 with a -34 score differential.
The case for Delaware
The won 42-21 here at Meade.
Yes, Delaware beat us, but if you look at the entirety of the season and resume, we clearly had a better overall resume and deserved to make the playoffs last year

Delaware would also sell 18,000 tickets.

Re: 2022 Rhode Island vs. Delaware playoff resumes
Attendance for Delaware's first round home game vs. Saint Francis (PA) was only 4639. Their previous home playoff game was in April of 2021 and was attended by 3175 people, but their might have been capacity limits. In 2010 they hosted the second round game with an attendance of 13,649. The attendance for the quarterfinals against New Hampshire was 8770, and the attendance for the semifinals was 10,317.
All that is a long way of saying in theory they could host 18,000 people, but they were never coming close to that number. And if the NCAA let them in based on attendance and not merit than what is even the point of having playoff games, just have a poll and be done with it

...why is there a thread about last years playoffs?
We're currently ranked with the playoffs right in front of us.
Who the hell cares about last year at this point

For one, it's an offshoot of a discussion in the Brown game thread.
For two, it's a cautionary tale about what can happen if we go 7-4, but also shows we might have a shot if it happens.
If you don't want to read a discussion about last year's playoffs don't open a thread that makes it clear that's what's being discussed.
Then again your reading comprehension has always sucked as much as your attitude

Last years team was not very good. URI didn’t deserve to be in the playoffs and haven’t deserved it in the last 35 years or whenever the last time they made the playoffs was. They always lose to the good teams and are headed in that direction again this year.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑8 months agoFor one, it's an offshoot of a discussion in the Brown game thread.

Re: 2022 Rhode Island vs. Delaware playoff resumes
Odd take. We literally lost on the last play of the game (W&M and UNH) to two playoff teams and beat a third (Elon). To say we were nowhere near being playoff worthy is absurd.
