2019 Nike EYBL League and Peach Jam

Unread post by ramster »

Expressions Elite had a great run this weekend in Indianapolis winning All 4 games vs:
- Georgia Stars
- Alabama Fusion
- BABC
- Brad Beal Elite

Fusion was 5-0 going into the Expesssions game
Expressions is now in 1st place in the D Division with 5 games upcoming in Dallas - important to qualifying for the Peach Jam in July

BABC is having a tough EYBL season now 0-8.

Moussa Cisse for Expressions Elite is really making a name for himself at EYBL this season

Against BABC Moussa played 24 minutes and had 21 rebounds, 12 points, 7 blocks.
He leads all players in rebounds per game through 8 games and has 49 blocked shots to rank second
Moussa is Ranked #8 in ESPN class of 2021 but will likely climb higher following this season plus Peach Jam

Dan Hurley was the first to Offer Moussa.

There are three ‘21s on Expressions U17 team
Terrence Clarke - Rhody offer
Bensley Joseph - Rhody offer
Moussa Cisse - Rhody will offer

Rhody also made an offer to Alexis Reyes (‘21) who is the leading scorer on the U16 team. Reyes has been to the RC many times including last year with Clarke.

It would be great for Ty’s relationships to pay dividends with a couple of these players.

You would think it almost has to, in terms of Ty and an Expressions pipeline.

That's a rumor, Billyboy.

I will say, that the pay for the assistant coaches should be increased substantially, or who could blame them for leaving?

Especially if we make the NCAA tourney next season.

Pulling all 3 posts above this one together, I would say it looks like Ty does have an in with these kids and is shopping it for more money.

Nothing should come as surprising in the off season. Most assistants shop their services around.

Ty needs to build his resume up. The ‘20 class will be the first class where he will have been in charge of the recruiting for their full recruitment cycle. The ‘19 class was a combination of Cox and Ty. They also missed on their top 3 recruits.

Not that I want it to happen - but Ty’s ticket to a new job is Terrance Clark. “Hire me and I will get him to come here.” He doesn’t need to prove any recruits here, just needs to promise the next big one.

Terrance Clarke wasn’t really at Expressions when Ty was there. I don’t think Ty can get Clarke to follow him anywhere.
I don’t see Duke, Kentucky or UNC hiring Ty for a one and done player.

It is very rare for us to get top 100 players......we chase kids who blow up into the top 50-100 and for the most part they go to the power 5 schools who swoop in late.....

Clarke will be a top 10 player courted by the elite of college power basketball......unless his father coaches here here I believe our recruitment of him is an exercise in futility.....

....Should we forget about him? I say no because he is nearby.....we are out in that area recruiting already so we are not wasting too much time and money doing so.....but realistically we can only dream that he comes here....

Question
If you were the coach of Expressions and had to give advise to Clarke about his college commitment what would you do? He will have offers from NC, Duke ,etc. and Uri. Basketball wise what is best for Terrence. Remember you are the X coach not just a ram fan.

Expressions loses first game in Dallas to NY Lightning

Not a typical game for Clarke with 7 TO’s and poor shooting
Cisse with yet another strong performance following up on a strong series of games in Indianapolis.

Moussa Cisse (Expressions) is putting up amazing numbers. He’s already top 15 or so in the class of ‘21 and looks to be legit. In a recent game, he had 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 blocks.

I would say out of that list Rhody is realistically focused on two players - Leggett and Paul Smith. So you can go to Peach Jam and watch Team Durant. It would be great if Cox can build a relationship with Bensley Joseph (‘21). He has time to do that.

83,
You think Cox has narrowed to just Leggett and Paul Smith? I think the net is larger than that and . Cox just made multiple offers just this week. Teams will be making offers during and after the Peach Jam and during the other remaining Tournaments in July. Players will play their way up and some will play their way down in the weeks to come as always

Not what I said. Sorry it wasn’t clear. Maybe I should’ve said none of the other players on your list that URI has offered and are playing at PJ are active recruits other than Leggett and Smith. So from a URI recruiting perspective this list doesn’t mean much.

Whenever I would see Dan Hurley, Bobby Hurley, Luke Murray and a number of work-a-holic HC's and Assistant Coaches, they live in the Gyms to watch game after game. They are not just watching 1,2 or 3 players but watching dozens of players, and looking to connect with new players as well. There are always kids who surprise on the upside and kids that go the other way too. I truly believe the work ethic is huge. Some HC's make an appearance, tend to talk a lot, don't pay such great attention.
The Hardest working coaches tend to be the most successful it seems. And they have a wide net of players they look at and continuously evaluate
They also watch the 16U and 15U AAU games - evaluating players early on and developing relationships

And while I am listing the players we have made offers to, during the Coaching Years prior to Dan Hurley there were no players at AAU Tournaments like Peach Jam that URI has made offers to - and look at the list we have now. IF there was a players at a Tournament like Peach Jam under the previous HC, the guy was well down the Bench and played little. The program has come a long way in 6 years

First, you post “major changes coming” and attach an article that is a year old. The changes already came. The article incorrectly guessed that the 2018 PJ could be the last one in July and the 2019 PJ is “supposed to be held in August”. That information was incorrect from Konchalski. The 2019 PJ is being held in July and the 2020 PJ is being held in July. If something is incorrect and we experience the event it doesn’t make the incorrect information correct the next year 😳. Since the changes were finalized and published last year no one has reported the PJ will be moving to a non evaluation period in August.

Clarke tried to cover him. He did a pretty good job. Kuminga scored 29 points with 12 from FTs. FG 8-22.
Clarke is a volume shooter 7-25 FG today.

Expressions lost in OT. They are all but out of it starting off 0-2. Six teams in each Pool with top 2 making it to the quarters.

Expressions loses 82-80 in a heartbreaker. Phenom scored on a put back at the buzzer.
Bensley Joseph ‘21 is the real deal PG. Double double with 12 points, 11 assists.
Expressions finish 2-3.
