Alex Murphy - Transferring From Duke
Three DNPs in last four games. Not working out at Duke as he hoped. Things might be better next year if Jabari Parker is one and done but its surprising he's not playing in year 3. Unlikely he would transfers because he would lose a year of eligibility. But after next year he could transfer and play right away as a grad student.

Re: Alex Murphy
Why we would he lose a year of eligibility? He'd have to sit out a year but would still have two to play. Jabari Parker is gone but Duke has a sick class coming in right behind. Winslow is a top 10 guy who could eat up a lot of Murphy's minutes.

Nah. These kids never think they can't make it anywhere,
They're fawned over from age 12 on. Lots of people in their ears.

The kid should go to BC, his father's alma mater......then either URI or PC if he wants to stay in RI closer to home....

Re: Alex Murphy
If he cares about his life he should stay at Duke. If I'm him, I sit next year, graduate and go play a year somewhere as a grad student.

Really no bad options for this kid - can't beat a Duke education.

Re: Alex Murphy
This is how it would work if he transfers after this year. You get 5 years to play 4, so if he transfers after this year he would end up only playing 3 seasons in 5 years. He could petition the NCAA to get the year back but I don't think he would get it.
1. Redshirt
2. Played
3. Played
4. Transfer
5. Play
But if he plays next year and graduates, then he could transfer and play right away, so he'd end up playing 4 seasons in 5 years. This is the option that makes sense, although staying at Duke is also a good option. The problem is he's not playing in year 3 and, as someone said, Duke brings in a good class every year.

Duke already signed the 1 and 3 top 100 recruits. Parker has said he might
stay on to play with them.
Murphy will never play much for Duke.

Re: Alex Murphy
I doubt he finds a better situation at UF, aside from Parker and next years guys, UF recruits talent right there with DUKE if not better. He could go but I don't think he finds an easy way onto the floor at UF. There is obviously something stopping him from getting on the court. The other tall guys that play beside Parker are fighting for minutes because they aren't very good. Clearly the fact that he is not in that fight says something about his ability.

Re: Alex Murphy
If he transfers as a grad student you'd think he'd go to a mid-major where he could play. A lateral move to Flirida wouldn't seem to make sense. How old is Tomas. Maybe both end up at PC in 15.

I would try to get him even if he only has 1 1/2 years of eligibility. Getting Alex would give us a shot at Tomas, I would think.

Murphy Leaving Duke.....
SG EDIT: When copy-pasting from sites, please try to link back to them, and also, try to only excerpt as opposed to doing a full copy-paste. Some media organizations can be pretty zealous when protecting their content. For the full news item on this, visit: http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basket ... ski-parkerThe Sporting News wrote:Duke redshirt sophomore Alex Murphy will transfer from the university at the end of the semester, according to multiple media reports.
The 6-9 forward played sparingly this season, appearing in just five of the Blue Devils nine games, thus far, averaging one point and one rebound in just over six minutes per game.

There was no way Jay Murphy would let one of his kids play for Baron, but Hurley? I would think PC would try to get involved too.

We need OUTSIDE shooters, period.
The only guy who can shoot is Munford, or he used to be able to anyway. Senior.
EC will be good, but he will need some major help.

http://www.providencejournal.com/sports ... uggles.eceLook for Alex Murphy to consider the Gators as well. Providence and the University of Rhode Island will also be in contact with Murphy once he secures a release from his scholarship at Duke, but Providence currently does not have an open scholarship for the spring semester.

He is a shooter. He can play the 3 and the 4. Would slide right into the lineup when Gil graduates.

Adam Finkelstein @ AdamFinkelstein 2h
Hearing that Davidson could be one of the schools in the mix for Duke transfer Alex Murphy
Drew P @ DrewPap85 2h
@ AdamFinkelstein any New England schools?
Adam Finkelstein @ AdamFinkelstein 1h
@ DrewPap85 RI kid with relationships at both PC & URI so would expect both to be considered
Davidson?????????????????

Davidson is actually a great spot for him. Maybe he likes that area of the country and McKillop is one of the best coaches out there. He would probably have a chance to be a go to guy (or at least a starter) on at least one team that goes to the dance.

Re: Alex Murphy - Transferring From Duke
Duke played Davidson this year, so maybe that's when Murphy started thinking, "I could be a star for that team."
But does he really want to finish his college career against the Elons of the world. And there's no guarantee Davidson makes the tournament.
Schools that mght make sense: URI, PC, UConn, Florida, Notre Dame, Boston College.

He won't be going to another ACC school like BC, transferring in conference is usually tough. Let's be realistic, he won't end up here. He'll probably end up at a place like Florida or Uconn

Re: Alex Murphy - Transferring From Duke
I think he has to take a step down in conference / team quality. If he thinks he can make it at one of those equivalent power recruiting schools, then why transfer in the first place?Keaney.Blue wrote:He won't be going to another ACC school like BC, transferring in conference is usually tough.
