Game #12: New Hampshire - Sunday Dec 22 @ 2pm
Who is resppnsible for URI-UNH to go up against the Patriots? I believe this is the second game to go against the Pats. I know the Pats game is at 4:30 but by the time you get out of ryan center it will be darn close to that.. . Let's put some thought into the schedule. A 1 o'clock start would be helpful for URI game.

The Pats game was originally scheduled for 8:30, but it got flexed out.Essam wrote:Who is resppnsible for URI-UNH to go up against the Patriots? Nobody to blame, Essam. Well, maybe the game should have been
scheduled for a Saturday, to avoid any NFL conflict.

I'm sure there are many, many more things that go into making schedule decisions then worrying about competing with the schedule of a professional football team in a different state.

Re: UNH on sunday
We haven't played in two weeks. I will be surprised if we come out strong.
I would expect a close 1st half, we pull away in the 2nd.
Anyway, I'll be there to watch this one closely.
Must. See. Improvement.
Intensity. Good defense. Better FT shooting. Miss less layups.
I don't expect a great offensive performance, due to layoff and our track record so far anyway.

I was thinking it was a must win as much as a must win exists for a team of a 200+ RPI out of conference.
BUT, I will take must improve instead. If we can't beat UNH...... AND look good doing it... AFTER 2 weeks of work....

This game is a no win situation for Rhody re the rating systems. Just by playing UNH, the Rams' RPI wil fall and winning the game will only provide morale comfort. But lose this game and our RPI will drop like a rock

Re: UNH on sunday
I am looking at beating UNH as a given, which I probably shouldn't be doing, AND beating Brown next week. Nothing less. Are we going to win a close game someday? This might be the first one.
Southern Miss and LSU are losses. The former, at home, should be a relatively close game, winnable if EVERYTHING is working. LSU, on the road, little chance.
8-7 going into conference play. No specific predictions for the beginning of that, until I see how much, or if, we've improved.
Obie, if we lose Sunday, we don't have far to fall.
If you guys think I'm negative now, just wait if that happens.

Not too much farther to drop. I really have to think the shots will have to start falling. That with our improved defense, as long as it keeps improving, gives us a shot in most games.Obadiah wrote:This game is a no win situation for Rhody re the rating systems. Finally a game thread!
I'm looking for 4 things to happen this game:
Shots must drop
Turnovers must stop
Free throws,free throws, free throws
Looking for 12 assists for the team
If they do we should win this one with no end of game worries

Can they play 40 minutes, come out angry, and win by 40?
Let's go!
BTW I'll be very surprised if there is a line.
PS: my ticket says Sat Dec 22

Here's the chance for Hurley to prove to us in person how good a coach we think he is... He said it was tough sledding early with personnel changes and no practice time.. There has been plenty of practice time now. I look for improved FT shooting, defense and intensity to make me keep drinking the kool aid...

I just think this team has been PLAYING like shit but they have always had the talent to do better. I never stopped believing that. So if this team clicks they should destroy Brown and UNH, period.

UNH is a horrible D1 basketball team. I would be very disappointed in a struggle. Should be a 10-20 point win. They've had two weeks to work on refining what they have struggled with.

Wow! We've gotten to the point that we're fearing UNH.
Pathetic!
I agree with GBG. This should be a 15-20 point win.
UNH is the single worst D-1 program in NCAA history.
I love Rambone threatening us with even more negativity.
How is that possible?

Re: Game #12: New Hampshire - Sunday Dec 22 @ 2pm
It will be interesting to see how this URI team comes out for this game.
How do they respond to the adversity of a three game losing streak, with all three losses by slim margins?
How do they handle an unusually long layoff of two weeks?
How do they respond to playing another inferior team at home. Do they play at their level?
The UNH coach, Bill Herrion, is no slouch. He will use his bench and rotate 10 players into the game, often with 9 players getting double digit PT. UNH is not afraid to use the three. Their 15-27 on treys is what secured them the win over fellow A-10 member, Duquesne, in Pittsburgh nonetheless. It was also their three point shooting that kept them in the game versus Marquette. Expect them to put up 20+ attempts. Since most of their games at home play to crickets, having a chip may make them a better road team.

Re: Game #12: New Hampshire - Sunday Dec 22 @ 2pm
Man... Am I happy to see some action back on the court.. We need a win
Fortunately, UNH's best player, 6'10 Center Chris Pelcher, has been out the last 4 games with a leg injury and isn't expected back until after the new year. He was leading the team in points (13.7) and rebounds (11.8). A huge loss for them.
Patrick Konan is one guy we will need to stop (11.2 ppg) and the other force, as of late, has been Frank Okeke off the bench. They basically play everyone. Quite a few Freshmen getting minutes and overall seems like they are trying to find out who really wants to play.
They like to slow the game down and limit the number of possessions. Combine that with being one of the worst shooting teams in the country and you don't end up scoring many points. Despite the poor overall shooting percentage they do have a few guys that can knock down the 3 (Konan, Okeke, and Jordon Bronner).
Bottom line, without Pelcher we should dominate on the boards and dominate this game. Let's get a big win!
Expect a UNH starting line-up of:
#1 Patrick Konan F Sr 6'6 220
#3 Jacoby Armstrong F Fr 6'7 230
#14 John Edwards F Fr 6'6 205
#24 Williams Gabriel F Fr 6'8 214
#5 Jordon Bronner G Sr 6'0 170
Key reserves:
#12 Frank Okeke F So 6'6 220

Frankly I am sick of seeing how guys react and giving guys playing time to see what they can do.
I would rather see a rotation develop over the next few games going into conference play.
THEN we can put together respectable conference play and we can all drink the cool aid all summer and have some confidence going into next year with much of the same guys.

My kool-aid doesn't ' taste the same......that rotation needs to include major minutes before the ball is tipped off on the A-10 conference games for the scholly players on the roster....

"See what Butler can do" I bet Hurley knows what Butler can do and is the obvious reason that he is not getting minutes!! I am betting he can shoot, but can he play basketball? At this point, it looks as if Butler is a recruiting mistake. Hoping I am wrong.

If he's the least talented scholarship player, then what kind of a reach could he be? Coach Hurley didn't have to offer him in the first place after he worked him out.

Got the Cox feed, but once again it is embarrassingly poor. I've watched Biruta's free throws at 8:35 four times now. The feed will run for a minute or two then jump back to that point.
