New Uniforms
I'm guessing we will have the same design as last year?
Hopefully they can get them to fit a little better, the "Island" got a little lost once the jerseys were tucked in.

Re: Uniforms
The new uniforms look good but are a step down from the previous uniforms. I don't get it. The new ones are loose all around while the last ones were nice and tight and perfesional looking like a bcs school uni. Anyone agree?

I agree. I like the simplicity of them but I get the feeling Adidas threw them together at the last second.

Re: Uniforms
I'll concede that I may be in the minority, but I completely disagree that the adidas uniforms are inferior. The Nike unis had the cheap iron on letters, which I didn't realize until my buddy won a jersey through Rhody Auctions and the material is HEAVY. The adidas jerseys at least had a better presentation than what Nike provided over the last decade. Based on pictures the Hurleys posted on twitter last year, they look like proper D1 uniforms. Perhaps the away color could be tweaked to better match Keaney Blue, but overall, I'm not sure why people seem down on last year's jerseys. As I've mentioned in other threads, I think adidas has done a good job of providing authentic apparel for the fans. My URI adidas hoodie with "Bleed Keaney Blue" stitched on the hood is currently my favorite item I have purchased in the Ram Zone.
I know Coach seems to be displeased with adidas (based solely on the contract amendments), but I don't believe I've seen anything written about what his issues are with them.

Not sure of contract term, but the Athletics Dept must make all efforts to sever the relationship asap per Hurley's contract addendum.
Good points, BarlowHall05. Adidas has definitely provided a much wider selection of clothing with URI's colors and logos.
Bressler, so glad you enjoy the emoticons!!

Re: Uniforms
At least from poking around on the web, it seems like the Hurley family might have a relationship with Nike - Bob Hurley Sr. did one of their basketball camps in 2012, it looks like, and Nike historically tries to look up as many first-round draft choices on shoe deals as possibly, so maybe Bobby had a relationship with them as well. However, I couldn't find an article that definitively linked them, given that a third Bob Hurley is the head of the "Hurley" surfing / skateboarding athletic wear brand that is owned by Nike.

Wasn't Wagner an UnderArmour school during Hurley's brief tenure. Not sure if that was just how they did across all athletics or specific to basketball?

Re: Uniforms
Sounds like people are getting emails now regarding the kickoff event October 30 at Alpine Country Club.
I think it's $50 for open bar and heavy hors d'ourves. See new unis. See new in-game videos and commercials for the first time. Chat with players and staff.
A MUST ATTEND Event for anyone who can get there. They want a huge turnout.

Kinda pricey, anyway. The one that was supposed
to take place at Olive's was $20.00.

Re: Uniforms
Well you basically get as many free sneakers as you want (probably depending on your skill level), so I can see how unlimited Nike's would have a certain appeal to an 18 year old. Especially when you start getting into the running shoes and off the court stuff. Free Jordans is probably a huge enticement and benefit for those schools. That being said, I've got a pair of Don Johnson Miami Vice Reebok pumps sitting in my closet and if the team started playing in those I guarantee Nike schools would no longer be a factor.rodfromcranston wrote:I just don't get the sneeker culture.

Not pricey given the open bar which was not a part of the previous Olive's concept. Anyway, it should be a great party and it's priced to break even and allow the maximum number of fans to attend.
All in all, this event will be larger and more "feature packed" than what might have been at Olive's. I can't wait to see the new uniforms, new in-house videos and commercials, talk to players and staff, and EAT and have some cocktails.

I guess I'll be passing on that one. Not very family friendly at that price.
Good for the swells with lots of disposable income.
I thought the program was moving away from only pleasing the
high enders and trying to connect with everyday fans.. Guess not.

Re: Uniforms
This is an event for everyday fans. I have a month to save up my $50 which will return me much entertainment, food and drinks.
Would you be bringing children to this? If so, I doubt they would require a ticket given they won't eat much and won't be taking advantage of the open bar.

I have heard several student athletes on campus say that they prefer nike over adidas. And to a 19 year old shoes and style has an influence. Some pro athletes that wear adidas got injured (Derrick Rose.) Many commits look for style.

Re: Uniforms
Well. Dan's contract amendment included language that requires the school to do everything possible to exclude the men's basketball team from the purchasing agreement with Adidas. Doubt that's done yet.
BTW, contract also stated that basketball office renovations should be concluded by Aug 30. Wonder if they met that obligation to Dan. Anyone know?

Dan said, "Next time, be sure to take the girls."
So, we're talking $200.00. I could eat at any restaurant in
Rhode Island and have money left over.
I could care less about an open bar.
So, I suppose, I could go by myself.

Re: Uniforms
Rod, you think they'd require your little grand daughters to have a ticket? Did you ask? I really doubt it as the cost per ticket is heavily weighted to the open bar and those who would enjoy a plate or two of heavy apps.
I just think before you get all upset that you or others are being shut out, you should ask what the rules are since you have a fairly unique situation.

True. ATP, except, I haven't gotten any such email, so
I wouldn't have a point of reference.
Is this an alumni thing or a basketball program thing?
If it's the former, it may explain why I haven't been contacted.

I haven't gotten any notice either, so who knows why someone would have seen an email. I was given some details and will help promote the event here once it's officially launched. I thought maybe it had been since someone else started talking about it.
Either way, the way the Athletic Dept works these days would make me believe if a fan like you, Rod, made a call or sent an email or tweet, all would be settled to allow you to take the family without paying for all tickets.
I hope you can go. I expect to see you and all the clan there.
