Say it ain’t so Dan. Not sure his coaching MO and DNA would translate to the pro game?

Yes why not, he already reached the summit in the NCAA (twice).NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑22 hours agoGo hard at it, like a dog, at all times...may not translate everywhere, but I can see him being fed up with the state of the semi-pro, er, college gamesection(105) wrote: ↑22 hours ago Say it ain’t so Dan. Besides now with the NIL and total free agency, no restrictions, he should move on.
At least in the NBA, players/teams have contracts.

My guess is 10 years, $16 mill a year, with incentives. Easily trumps Popovich as highest paid coach.

Re: 2024 Coaching Carousel
The question is if he's more of a Brad Stevens or more like Pitino, Calipari, and Beilein. Some of the best coaches in the college game have made the jump and flamed out. Does Dan eventually have a "Magic and Kareem are not walking through that door" press conference?

The only way I see him taking it is if it's insane money. We'll see what UConn will counter with in regard to a new extension.

No way can UConn compete with a package that the Lakers will offer.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑22 hours ago The only way I see him taking it is if it's insane money. We'll see what UConn will counter with in regard to a new extension.
Besides it is the Lakers, a historically great franchise.
I could be wrong, but I think he is as good as gone, welcome to SoCal Danny.

Re: 2024 Coaching Carousel
It was always pro - check my past posts. The way he ran the high school program shows he's more into pro than maniacal college coach. He will adjust his coaching but he can still scream on the sideline in NBA. He knows basketball better than the fans so he will be fine adjusting. Pro game is about who is on the floor not the sideline so that will determine his success.

Re: 2024 Coaching Carousel
What does Andrea want? It's not just Dan that would be moving thousands of miles from family (although Bobby would be close). I know UConn can't compete with their offer. Maybe they just sweeten his contract enough to convince them to stay.Jersey77 wrote: ↑22 hours agoNo way can UConn compete with a package that the Lakers will offer.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑22 hours ago The only way I see him taking it is if it's insane money. This move would make sense for both the Lakers and Hurley.
Woj wouldn't have leaked this out if there wasn't a lot of traction.
Both sides seem very receptive.
These types of opportunities don't come around often.
Strike while the iron is hot.

It's a job with one of two "blue bloods" in the NBA. He may end up a bust but the NBA should always be the Holy Grail for players and coaches so I can see him wanting to try and climb Everest just to prove to himself that he can.

I said this in the other thread to, but I just don't see it. I do believe the Lakers are going after him hard, but I just can't see him in LA. Oh and the worst part would be I'd have to root for the Lakers...

Re: 2024 Coaching Carousel
That it's Woj, makes me think it's serious. And this is a different size money pile.... we're talking huge bagnitude. While "But, Andrea..." is a safe pat answer, the boneyard seems to be thinking that won't be enough
I always wish him the best, was glad to see him win at UConn, but if he left and UConn sucked again, I wouldn't hate it.

if the money is huge, it's a game changer
you can make mistakes in life.. everyone does... but the big decisions, you can't afford to make a mistake
he's a ncaa coach but unless UConn comes close to the $... then i would..

Re: 2024 Coaching Carousel
The pursuit of Hurley comes on the 20th anniversary of the Lakers trying to hire then-Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski to a record-breaking contract in 2004. Krzyzewski elected to remain with the Blue Devils, but the climate has dramatically changed in college athletics. The demands of NIL fundraising for non-power-football schools such as UConn are an especially relentless grind -- and are expected to become even more difficult.

Re: 2024 Coaching Carousel
Definitelly not uneducated opinions, this story has plenty of traction.
Hurley has expressed interest about someday coaching in the NBA.
The Lakers are going to put together an extremely attractive deal that will make it difficult for him to turn down.
Hurley would have already discussed this with Andrea and he seems interested to further the discussions with the Lakers based on all the reporting this morning on ESPN and listening to Woj.
So this isn't an out in left field or ridiculous news story.
Still nobody knows but Hurley what he will end up deciding, but this whole thing certainly isn't crazy.
There is more to this than Hurley just trying to gain leverage with UConn.

Re: 2024 Coaching Carousel
if hurley goes... is the NIL partially to blame ?
maybe, maybe not... probably mostly due to money but the NIL is cited by Wojo
hate to see hurley and saban both leave the ncaa partialy to the NIL
it would be (yet another) stain on the NIL in losing 2 great ncaa coaches
