Re: Assistants under Coach Miller 2022-23
Whoever suggested Brian Gregory I think was onto something. There is the obvious Dayton connection between Archie and Gregory and then you factor in Gregory's head coaching days are likely over based on age and overall results so a top assistant to Archie makes a lot of sense. Especially with someone else mentioning it's a former HC who sat out last year.

Turgeon is 10 times the coach that Gregory is but did he ever cross paths with Miller? My source said Archie was 'hiring one of his guys' but didn't have a name.

Nobody has offered their tent yet.
If I get one where should I put it? I always liked the Ellery Pond area. A tent, some binoculars for a good view of the RC and Keaney, coffee and a bagel (daily), and I'm set to go.

Re: Assistants under Coach Miller 2022-23
Mark Turgeon was mentioned above but I can't see him taking on an assistant's job at a place like URI. He was a head coach in the Big Ten and Big-12 and led three programs (Wichita St, Texas A&M, and Maryland) to ten NCAA's with a couple of Sweet-16's. The Kansas native Turgeon has a career winning percentage of .635 with a record of 479-275. He was last making about $3.5M at Maryland. It would be an incredibly big step down to take an assistant job at about $250k in a league like the A-10 at a school that has been one its bottom feeders most of the last four seasons. I just cannot envision that happening.

Aside from both of them coaching in the BIG, how much affiliation do they have with each other?
Besides Turgeon is a Midwest guy and I am sure if he wanted, he could do better than URI.

He was an assistant last season at SLU and before that many years for Dambrot at Akron and Duquesne.
He also happens to be from Dayton, Ohio.

Re: Assistants under Coach Miller 2022-23
If it were to be a former head coach with name school experience, I would think someone like a Brian Gregory is far more likely than a Mark Turgeon. Gregory only had a career win percentage of .533 with an overall record of 327-287. His nineteen seasons as a head coach resulted in just two NCAA bids which happened in his first six seasons at Dayton. His last gig was at South Florida where he went 79-107. He is probably no longer in line for any plum jobs. If he were to coach, it would probably have to be a head coach at a low tier school (below A-10 level) or an assistant.ramster wrote: ↑1 month agoWho can you envision?RF1 wrote: ↑1 month ago Mark Turgeon was mentioned above but I can't see him taking on an assistant's job at a place like URI. No. That’s my point. “This guy” has never been a Head Coach.
The clue is the new guy was a HC but stopped being a HC 2 years ago.

Either way whether Johnson was coming to URI or going to Georgetown fact is the move was already made before the rumor mill got wind of it of before the formal announcement was made.
Also got to keep Rhody Vault in suspense on who the replacement is.
