I don't think they can announce this early

Hmmm...if someone felt like it they could scour the 2023 coaching carousel to see who doesn't have a job....BattleTested wrote: ↑1 month agoExactly.. My source told me its a solid a hire. No reason to think Archie was going to just sit around and let us be short handed on the staff.BattleTested wrote: ↑1 month ago I'm hearing we've already hired KJ's replacement and he's already here recruiting... And no it was not an in house hire.
I'd expect there to be an announcement in the next couple days

Good one!
In that Abu Bakr interview, Abu was advocating for hiring a former alumni.
I think you're right. Why else would he have a problem with some former assistant of Archie's? He won't get interviews!

Re: Assistants under Coach Miller 2022-23
Here is my rushed and probably flawed list based on some very quick research of 2023 head coaches that lost their job and did not coach this year.
I'm going to guess maybe Brian Gregory? Reunion of old Dayton coaches? Total speculation and guess on my part. I'm sure I either missed some guys or missed that some of these guys may have gotten other jobs.
Nate James - Austin Peay
Juan Dixon - Coppin State
Josh Pastner - Georgia Tech
G.G Smith - High Point
Mike Jordan - Lafayette
Bill Herrion - New Hampshire
Brian Kennedy - NJIT
Kermit Davis - Ole Miss
Baker Dunleavy - Quinnipiac
Brian Gregory - South Florida
Aaron McKie - Temple

I dont know if it has to be a coach that was just fired. Just a coach that was not coaching last season.adam914 wrote: ↑1 month ago Here is my rushed and probably flawed list based on some very quick research of 2023 head coaches that lost their job and did not coach this year.

Like is Tom Crean a possible candidate which falls into the speculation guidelines.

Yeah, I just looked at coaches who left their jobs after 2023 and didn't coach in 2024 (not necessarily fired) based on the post that said the person didn't coach "this past season". But it's entirely possible I am reading too much in to this.sevegny7 wrote: ↑1 month agoI dont know if it has to be a coach that was just fired. Another possible name (I have zero knowledge and just thinking out loud):
Jay Young - head coach of Fairfield - resigned early last year
1987–1988 Fitchburg State (assistant)
1988–1990 Salem State (assistant)
1990–1992 Northeastern (assistant)
1992–1996 Newbury
1996–2000 Northeastern (assistant)
2000–2005 New Haven
2005–2016 Stony Brook (assistant)
2016–2019 Rutgers (assistant)
2019–2023 Fairfield
Recruited Supreme Cook to Fairfield (Supreme Cook just entered the transfer portal from Georgetown)

You can say its a requirement without actually meaning it. These jobs arent the same as trying to hire a new director of the academic center, shouldn't be handled the same way lolBillyboy78 wrote: ↑1 month agoIn the past, it was a requirement. I agree. But that was not the line that was toed around here the last 2 years as to why our recruiting stunk…the narrative was that Archie and KJ we’re not in the loop and it would take a while to get back in the game so to speak. Now the reason is lack of NIL.BattleTested wrote: ↑1 month agoI disagree with that notion.. There's been plenty of coaches who have sat out a year and then come back recharged. I have a very good theory (not a source this time lol) but it could be Mark Turgeon, he was seen behind the URI bench at the GW and GM away games in DC & Virginia and checks the boxes of former head coach and hasn’t coached since ‘22

Interesting theory, Dino.
I looked him up quickly. He hasn’t coached since leaving Maryland, it appears. According to a story from pressboxonline.com, he periodically visits practice at Morgan State and works with players.
He is only 59. Maybe he is ready to get back into coaching full time ?

Re: Assistants under Coach Miller 2022-23
I was thinking Bruiser Flint might be a logical choice since he worked with Archie at IU. Unfortunately, Calipari apparently hired him as a special assistant at Arkansas. (I don’t like the odds of poaching him away from Calipari)
I am hoping that whoever we hire has strong international ties and results. This sounds like an area where we would have a better chance without money being as big a factor.

When you think about it, an assistant coaching job at Rhody isn’t a bad gig for an ex-HC who just wants to work with/develop players, breakdown opponents, game plan, help out a buddy.
You get to live near the ocean for a time, clear your head, eventually move up if an opportunity comes along, if that’s an interim goal towards being a HC again.

Just conjecture but could it be because that are not yet technically and legally hired nor on the payroll at this time. This same scenario might also have been in play with KJ and Georgetown for some time.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑1 month ago If we've already hired an assistant, as someone here suggested, why hasn't it been announced? Re: Assistants under Coach Miller 2022-23
My guess is someone has been working for Rhody that we don't know about (I'm sure some know) while KJ has been working for GT. I don't see this as a huge deal. Either they're covered in that area for now, or they aren't...and if they aren't, it'll be evident enough at some point. I trust that Arch has the right/enough folks working on this. If/when an announcement is made, it's not going to all of a sudden turn on the team building jets, like the right player announcement would.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑1 month agoNot being snarky.
