If he goes to PC I suspect there will be a lot of people giving him the Zdeno Chara in Montreal treatment

I already said this in the recruiting thread to, but please just anywhere but Providence or another A10 school so I can still root for him...

Why would you root for him?
Couldn’t be less relevant.
That’s like cheering for Anthony Harris at his NAIA school.

I can see both viewpoints. Maybe not so much I can still root for him as I don't have to hate him?

For me I have no reason to root for him because he played zero minutes for us and never actually enrolled. We already wasted too much time writing and reporting on him. I moved on and could care less where he ends up at this point.

I like his game after watching him play some the last few months so I'll still be rooting for him to do well as long as it's not in conference or our biggest rival. I just liked what I saw from the guy as a player. I root for some players that I like on other teams all the time, it's not that deep.

My first thought, too, Ramster.
Was it Rhodylaw who suggested Arkansas yesterday ? That snake in the grass, Coach Cal, got in Hammonds ear ?
Maybe.
ETA: I just saw the list. No Ark but some other P-Whatever’s like, VT and Penn St. How about Buffalo ? Really ? He would consider Buffalo ? I get it, I shouldn’t take prospects lists as gospel.

Definitely not Arkansas or Georgetown. I spoke with his coach yesterday. But that’s all I got. He’s a nice guy.

I don’t know how much money he cost us, but every visit KJ and Archie made to visit + opportunity cost of missing out om whatever option #2 is. Hes a kid so no point in taking it out on him directly but certainly plenty of reason not to root for him.

104, schools in our position in the pecking order that are competing against programs with larger budgets really need to pay attention to opportunity/acquisition cost, I believe. Focus on where we can max value that leads to more wins and then hopefully, the NCAAT.Section104 wrote: ↑1 month agoI don’t know how much money he cost us, but every visit KJ and Archie made to visit + opportunity cost of missing out om whatever option #2 is. Maybe this is PC’s attempt at recruiting limited revenge for Sly. In that case, they can have Hammond, as far as I am concerned. We won with Sly. Should have won the Duke game, though. Ooph. That was a killer.
However, that is ancient history in cbb terms. Hardly anyone at PC bb probably even knows who Sly is.

I for one would have no problem with Bassy returning.
He's better than Always.
And he plays hard all the time. Guys like him can set an example for his teammates.

If Bassy is indeed visiting then imo he commits.
We could do worse.
What this indicates to me is actually a positive.
Based on the players who have stayed and those who have left, we could have a squad who gives consistent effort, even though the talent level might still not be good enough to contend at the top of the A10.
We still have 3 or 4 openings which could help that deficit keeping fingers crossed.

I get that the A10 is traditionally a guard dominant league but can we at least add one good big (my good being can play above avg D, rebound well at our level and have a move or two on O to keep the oppositions D honest) ? Throw in a developmental big, too, that can eat some minutes in an emergency.
When are the bigs visiting ?

That new VA law must have helped clinch the deal ?

It's bound to happen. We can't just have Fuchs do it by himself and then put Green or Farrell at the 5 lol.Jdrums#3 wrote: ↑1 month ago I get that the A10 is traditionally a guard dominant league but can we at least add one good big (my good being can play above avg D, rebound well at our level and have a move or two on O to keep the oppositions D honest) ? Maybe we are looking at Juco guys that we don't know about?

How about that big from Brown ? I am not picky.
But, Fuchs better get in real good shape, just in case we strike out. He could be logging a lot of minutes!

1. I love Bassy, no issue if he comes back, was not happy when he left. Not his fault that he was a better option than higher recruited players. He was supposed to redshirt year 1 and was forced to play because the other guys stunk.rambone 78 wrote: ↑1 month ago If Bassy is indeed visiting then imo he commits.

This list reflects badly on our program no? We should be ahead of a lot of these clubs in the pecking order.
Is it possible Miller cut bait for some reason on Hammond?
It’s all seeming a bit weird….at first glance this is a kick in the teeth. More to this story?

It's just because he's short. He's an elite floor general for sure, but he will have to prove his ability to score inside at the D1 level for big time schools to want him.
Even though, PC, VT, GT, Butler and Iowa are pretty legit.

Did he say why he left? Kenny's departure? ARchie bringing in a transfer PG?

RhodyLaw, I am good with him coming back if that is what he decides. I will always have an affinity towards RI kids that want to play for Rhody.rhodylaw wrote: ↑1 month ago1. Very good extra bonus if he has improved. Note: I didn’t watch him play last season other than maybe a brief vid clip or two.

This is the second post where people thinks these schools are Hammonds final list.
These schools are simple the ones who have reached out to him, not the schools he is considering attending.

He Is UNDERSIZE. That will usually put off the P5 schools. I, for one, am not surprised by the general lack of interest by the top schools. Undersize and basketball do not usually go hand in hand, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑1 month agoIt's just because he's short. This guy just needs to go cover Bryant, PC, Brown and leave URI alone
Imagine posting what we are offering during the negotiating/recruiting process. And others see it too.
Kudos for calling him out on it.
More than one here have referred to him as an enemy of the state.
Right on target.

If you prefer not to compare Archie to Loyola, how about George Mason? They are also outperforming us so far as well Most if not all A10 teams have been since Archie got here.. I don't like it but that's the truth.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑1 month agoIs it really fair to compare ourselves to them? They had one bad year after a bunch of key players graduated and got right back on track. Their program was waaaaay healthier than ours. I know some thought they'd really struggle to adjust, but obviously the culture they built under Porter Moser still exists there. They even had 3 or 4 guys from their last NCAA team on the roster this year.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑1 month ago Loyola is doing what I thought Archie would do. They are killing us so far. Hopefully, that will change.
32–6 15–3 Final Four
20–14 12–6 NIT first round
21–11 13–5 No postseason
26–5 16–2 Sweet Sixteen
25–8 13–5 NCAA first round
Before one bad year.
I just don't feel jealous of them because they were in a totally different boat.
If Traore is the best we can get, I think that's a big letdown. But it feels like he will be coming.
I said it in the Farrell thread, but I know we were in the mix for Jaquan Sanders last year, but he decided to stay. He doesn't fill a need with the players we have right now unless more are leaving. I also wouldn't mind if we looked into Roumoulou as well.
ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

I just watched a Traore vid and interview while he was at SJ. He looks the part of a good big: tall, chiseled, moves his feet well. But his lack of production doesn’t align with his measurables. So what’s the deal with him ? Low basketball IQ ? Low motivation ? Can’t take good coaching ? Is he a late bloomer ?
Are we going to play with one big and he will be a 10-12 minute backup to Fuchs ?
ETA: Maybe Archie is going to start 3 guards with Green and Fuchs ?
