Just looking at it, I think Richmond has the easiest path to the #1 seed.

If two teams are tied for the seeding is the first tie breaker head to head? If I am looking at it correctly, if we in at Lasalle we would be tied with Duquesne for the last position that does not have a game on Tuesday.

Re: A10 2024 Tournament March 12 - 17 Barclays Bracket and Results
Last year 2 of the 3 winners of the Play In Games (PIG for Seeds 10,11,12,13,14,15) advanced to the Quarterfinals
11-seed LaSalle beat 14-seed URI then beat 6-seed Duquesne
10-seed St Joseph’s beat 15-seed Loyola then beat 7-seed George Washington
You could look at it as somewhat of a disadvantage to be the 5,6 or 7 seed since you don’t play until Wednesday while seeds 10-15 already have a win under their belts from having played on Tuesday. The 3 Tuesday winners have some confidence and experience playing at Barclays. Maybe even bigger advantage these days since so many new roster players who have never played a game in the A10 Tournament or at Barclays Arena.
I don’t mind URI playing on Tuesday against a lesser ranked opponent to get a win then go into Wednesday.

Re: A10 2024 Tournament March 12 - 17 Barclays Bracket and Results
In the last few weeks, multiple A-10 teams have started the process to leap frog URI in the standings. Duquesne and Davidson have already got there and Fordham and LaSalle are headed there. If the latter two succeed in passing Rhody, our team would find itself as the 13th seed. This would be one seed position better than last year. URI has made this scenario possible as it has gone 2-8 in its last ten games after winning its first three in conference play. How would URI fans feel about incremental improvement in the league such as this?

I expected over .500 without Green, Green gets eligible and we most likely still will finish below .500.
Go Rhody

It certainly wouldn't be the incremental improvement we were all hoping for or expecting.RF1 wrote: ↑3 months ago In the last few weeks, multiple A-10 teams have started the process to leap frog URI in the standings. I didn't have high expectations for this season anyway, so I am not losing sleep over it.
Right now, I am more interested in what happens this off-season and what our team will look like going into 24-25.

Re: A10 2024 Tournament March 12 - 17 Barclays Bracket and Results
It has unfortunately not been trending that way. Just 2-8 in the last ten league games. To secure either the 10th or 11th seed would probably require two more wins. Would think @LaSalle, @ Fordham, and SLU at home would be the best opportunities for wins. URI right now however will probably only be favored once in its remaining five games (SLU).

We better not go 1-4 last 5 that would be 3-12 last 15 league a drastic underperformance

This team is well on its way toward the bottom of the A-10. My seed expectation is now leaning to the 13th seed ahead of just GW and SLU (who we may need to beat to secure a place above).
The stay in Brooklyn will be very shortlived. Would not surprise me at all to see an exit in the first game.

Re: A10 2024 Tournament March 12 - 17 Barclays Bracket and Results
With the A10T starting in about 2 weeks, the top 4 teams have separated themselves: Richmond, Dayton, Loyola, and VCU for the double bye.
UMass and the Bonnies pretty much assured of the next 5, single bye.
La Salle and GW will likely be in the bottom 6, PIG.
The rest is up for grabs.

As I noted in the VCU thread, our season has just two more weeks left as of today. Rhody is all but guaranteed to play in the Tuesday PIG game and it is extremely unlikely the Rams would win two A-10 tournament games to get beyond Wednesday night. Let the countdown mercifully begin.

As far as I'm concerned this season is already over.
My level of interest in this program is near an all time low.
I still root for us to win games and still donate of course. That wont change.
Likely 1 more regular season win and maybe 1 win at Barclays.
I'm 72 now and wondering if and when I will see another NCAA tourney for this program.
Sad.

Yeah 105. Miss seeing you at the Mews for the coaches shows.
Stopped going to them the last couple of years of Cox's tenure.
With Miller's lack of fan interest, likely I wont be going again anytime soon.

Re: A10 2024 Tournament March 12 - 17 Barclays Bracket and Results
Ya 208, I became a NYY fan in 1961 watching and listening to Mantle and Maris chase Ruth's HR record.
Mantle was leading 54 to 52 when he had to leave the lineup due to a hip abscess and missed the last 3 weeks of the season.
He would have ended up with at least 62 HR if he had stayed healthy and Judge would not have beaten that imo.
My dad, who was a lifelong Sox fan could never understand my Yankee fandom but that was the reason lol.

We started going in the Hurley years, instead of our annual vacation to Florida in March. We only missed Pittsburg, because my husband is from Ohio, and refuses to go to Pittsburgh because of the Browns=Steelers thing!Jersey77 wrote: ↑3 months agoThere is a chance I will be in Brooklyn.LoveThoseRams wrote: ↑3 months ago So, dare I ask?? Almost backed out of Brooklyn this year, but decided it wasn't time to abandon the team. If next year is as bad as this year, I am opting for Florida!

Some news here for Providence and #URI fans. The Friars and #Rams are in the same MTE with Iowa in Mexico early in the 2024-25 season.

Re: A10 2024 Tournament March 12 - 17 Barclays Bracket and Results
PER is weighted more toward offense than defense and has its issues as a stat, but URI has no players in the Top 30 of Atlantic 10 players who have logged at least 10 games and 100 minutes. I'd be shocked if any of our players warranted serious consideration for an All-Conference team.
Foumena is actually our highest rated player (31st), because he's efficient offensively in his limited playing time, even though he's probably very bad on the defensive end. Fuchs is next at 38th, and I could see him on the All-Rookie team, because he has a huge advantage in minutes (518 vs. 358, even playing 4 less games). The only freshman rated higher than those two are Buchanan (GW 10th), Brown (St. Joe's 19th) and Miles Rubin (Loyola 27th).
This will probably shock no one, but Holmes leads the A-10 in PER at 31.5. Other guys in the Top 10 - Sincere Parker, Dame Adelekun, Matt Cross, Josh Cohen, Bradley Ezewiro, David Skogman, Chad Venning, Neal Quinn and Buchanan. The range of that selection is from 31.5 to 22.2, and there are 22 players in the A-10 at 20+ in PER. Plenty of viable candidates for the league's three All-Conference teams.
If you're more into win shares, a cumulative stat, then the Top 10 is Holmes, Jordan King, Max Shulga, Josh Cohen, Matt Cross, Keyshawn Hall, Dae Dae Grant, Dji Bailey, Charles Pride and Erik Reynolds II. Fuchs would be URI's highest rated player (68th), followed by House (70th) and Kortright (72nd). Top 5 freshmen by win shares are Brown, Buchanan, Bobby Durkin (Davidson), Ndjigue (UMass) and Okojie (GM).

The most likely tournament seed that URI will get is now 13th. Fortunate that SLU has two tough games left which they will probably lose. They would now win the tiebreaker if teams were tied in standings.
14th seed in 2023 to a probable 13th seed in 2024. I think it safe to say that all were hoping for far more tangible improvement.

Glad I got to experience college basketball when I did.
I am happy the players now have an opportunity to share in the wealth ( it should have been done sooner ) but I don’t care for the unlimited movement. I would like to see some common sense guidelines put in place regarding player movement.
Really don’t know what those guidelines would be while still ensuring players can have some level of freedom of movement.
I don’t know. Too disgusted to give potential guidelines any thought.

Yes you can - no professional sports league has unlimited movement.NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑3 months agoI don't think you can separate sharing the wealth from unrestricted movement. I mean, it's the latter that helps me maximize on the former...Jdrums#3 wrote: ↑3 months agoOoph
The end game has to be the athletes as employees sharing in the revenue generated, collective bargaining, and some common sense protocols and rules regarding movement adopted.

Then...maybe requiring multi-year contracts? Player gets paid for all years of his deal, including if he's overrecruited, and only doesn't get paid if he leaves under douchenozzle-like circumstances. Can be whatever number of years the GM, er, the school decides..1, 2, 3 or 4. Like, "We pay you for these two years, but if we decide by x date that you're not what we need, we'll still pay you, but you' might be out." Could lead to some great story lines....dude playing out his sophomore year on a two year deal, looking to increase his portal stock, or perhaps sign a more lucrative deal with Home U.... I guess that then leads to salary caps, and...wait for it...trades. Yes, trades. The powers that be gonna still wanna pay these dudes to play and have at least some kinda control, so trades....bigappleram wrote: ↑3 months agoYes you can - no professional sports league has unlimited movement.NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑3 months agoI don't think you can separate sharing the wealth from unrestricted movement. Re: A10 2024 Tournament March 12 - 17 Barclays Bracket and Results
Good post, NYG. Probably just better to bite the bullet and have a two tier system for college sports:
Tier 1: School Sponsored Professional League
Tier 2: Amature/Sholarship (based on financial need and high scholar potential) College Athletics
Tier one has employees (including players coaches, GM’s etc.). Education is optional for player employees and not tuition free.
Tier two has traditional student athletes seeking an education.
Thank you NCAA and college football P schools.

Right now, Richmond is the favorite for the #1 seed.
If they win the next 2 games and get to the finals of the A10T, then they have a chance of being in the bubble discussion, of course depending on what happens elsewhere.
They even got a vote in the AP top 25. Their current NET is 70, for whatever that is worth.
Dayton is probably guaranteed an at-large unless they totally self-destruct.
Loyola and VCU would have to win the A10T to get a bid.
Dayton may have the most talented starting 5 and the best player in Holmes.
PG could be an issue for them if Bennett will be out with the thumb injury.
Richmond also has one of the best players in King who is a basket getter.
Their depth has suffered with the loss of Roche (sniper) and Noyes (banged up) only played 14 games off the bench.
They do however have a solid starting 5 with size and talent.
Loyola, not the most individually athletic or talented, but they probably have the most depth.
They are also fundamentally solid, very strong, and defensively sound.
VCU, now with Bam available and Bairstow healthy, are definitely a threat.
They go 10 deep and have plenty of length.
Watch out for the Bonnies as a sleeper.

Plus we beat GW on the road by over 20 pts. The NET is a head scratcher.
That said, the two rankings are close. So, there is that.

The power conferences and their allies that run the NCAA must be very pleased that their secretive NET ranking system is working exactly as they intended. It means that only one A-10 team (#21 Dayton) is at this time guaranteed an NCAA bid. Rankings in the range of 68-108 are just outside the NCAA Tournament as they desire. Would think the A-10 may have several NIT teams but that may now even be impacted by the guaranteed minimum number of bids to power conferences + BE regardless of their records.

Which A-10 teams do you believe deserve to be in the NCAA Tournament but are being held out solely because of their NET ranking?RF1 wrote: ↑3 months ago
