Should be make or break next year for me anyway.
Archie will likely get a 4th year whether he deserves to or not though.

There is zero doubt in my mind that Archie will get a fourth year. URI can't afford otherwise and it's already budgeted. Hopefully it's worth it.rambone 78 wrote: ↑3 months ago Should be make or break next year for me anyway.

I've been a die hard fan for over 30 years...but I haven't watched a minute of the last 3 games. You guys are better fans than I am. I just can't take the pain anymore.

I’m not happy about it but I still watch
It’s easier for me to root for this group than Cox last season that was more of a difficult watch for me

I stopped watching the Lakers because they drive me nuts and our head coach is hilariously bad. For some reason I still watch URI. All it does is make me miserable but they are my favorite team in any sport and I can't stop.Rhody_NYCT wrote: ↑3 months ago I've been a die hard fan for over 30 years...but I haven't watched a minute of the last 3 games. Re: 3/2 | Saint Louis | 4:00PM (CBSSN)
Fine. I turned off my caring meter after the Mohegan games.
It's year two. I'm in survival mode and understand that we've "improved" with a cavalcade of injuries and changes. We have a capable scoring attack, just no defense.
A couple thoughts:
The comparison to Martin, while fair, is still different as his team retained talented pieces from his predecessor in year one, and he has leaders this year who stayed from last year. Archie didn't have a pipeline to bring guys, last year was a total washout. Martin has seniors on his team. Arch has none. If guys stay to build off of, then maybe we'll have some veteran leadership to build off of.
I still don't get how people are blowing gaskets right now. This team is who they are at this point: young. What do all young teams lack? Leadership, consistency, mental fortitude, confidence, etc.
Every problem we have is pretty much attributed to being a young team that hasn't played together. We don't have a leader.
Fans get frustrated because you see flashes of brilliance and then boneheaded mistakes. You typically see that from your younger players. When your whole team is new and young it becomes an epidemic. It takes years to learn to win, that's what Hurley said. If Arch keeps some core pieces to mature into veteran leaders, and adds a couple more? We'll be fine.
The problem with us is that we've seen that we're capable of winning games because we've seen flashes of glory, it's just frustrating to see a lack of effort or just total basketball stupidity rear it's head and cost us games.
This team could easily catch fire and win a couple of games in Brooklyn, or just as easily not even unpack and get blown out in game 1.
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

Re: 3/2 | Saint Louis | 4:00PM (CBSSN)
I'm almost equal parts concerned and optimistic, which is weird.
Optimistic that offense has been humming, we can get clean looks, shooting has been good, and we have some pieces that can absolutely play on a winning team. Add in, arguably, a lightning rod/playmaker PG + a defensive specialist (plus whatever the portal brings) and we can have a Loyola-esque turnaround. Archie didn't forget how to coach.
Concerned that there's been some regression this year. You can call it injury related, NCAA nonsense with Green, bad-luck, etc. but the results haven't been pretty. It's also a unique time in College Hoops where a coach, like Kenny Johnson, can leave and take his recruits with him. What I liked about Dan is he always was the closer on the recruits. I don't know how Archie compares on that side but I think KJ leaving is always a possibility. I hope they throw some money at him to keep him, and his recruits, around.
The rest of the assistant pool could use a shakeup. Bring Tyson home!

Granted, it is a different environment now, but we have always had hurdles to overcome. There is still time to adapt and carve out success. Unfortunately, for us to build back to that point without the resources of the P5 will take more time, strategic thinking and creativity.
It seems that is the path Archie and Thorr are committed to. Can’t say I am happy with the progress so far or won’t get really frustrated over losses but I am willing to hang in with them, God willing, if that is their plan.
Faith on my part because I have no inside info.

Since Archie left Dayton in a completely different college basketball landscape, what has Archie accomplished that makes you think he’s great?ElmCityRhody wrote: ↑3 months ago

I am not 100% sure which player you are referring to here. I was at the game, then a couple days later watched the replay but still not sure who you mean.
Is this what you were referring too? There was another play where David Green lost the ball and was on the ground after the steal?
There was one play where the ball got knocked loose in an exchange with Zek Montgomery who then followed the ball into the backcourt only to have the St Louis guy out-hustle him for the ball and he went in for the easy layup.
I originally thought Montgomery was lackadaisical and slow to the ball but as I watched it several times on replay Montgomery looked back a few times as if he thought it was going to be a backcourt violation. It was almost like he didn't know what to do - but the SLU player speedily outran him to the ball.
I mentioned after about the 1st dozen games that Zek only had 2 steals with 1 being in the 1st game of the season. Someone replied saying the Pack-line Defense does not generate a lot of steals. Some say Fuchs is slow, but Montgomery seems slowest on the team.I actually think that Fuch's has slimmed down during the season and picked up some pace in his step. Montgomery glides around the floor, sometimes seems lost, he is a casual player - not very aggressive. So it is not surprising he gets few steals. I had high hopes for him coming over from Bradley with a high 3P percentage. Thought he would be our best player but he went on to lose his starting position and had been inconsistent. Maybe he picked it up these next 2 games and in Brooklyn along with the entire team.

That play was frustrating as heck , that was a 90-10 ball in our favor and Zek relaxed and it cost us a bucket

He looks like he should be fast but I watch him a lot. He jogs, walks, trots. I’ll put my money on Fuchs in a foot race with Montgomery.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑3 months agoI don't think Zek is slow.
