Lamar Odom Night (?)
My vote is to have a night honoring Lamar Odom
We should honor him for his "on the court" contributions and playing for us
It should be done in front of a packed house and should be done for the PC game next year
He was a terrific basketball player and we should highlight that fact

We need money you say, so let’s honor him at the PC game when it’s gonna be sold out regardless if he comes or not?ElmCityRhody wrote: ↑4 months ago ahhh.. good to know...

That makes absolutely zero sense.
You would honor him on a Saturday A10 game to sell the place out.
Common sense here man.

no one is gonna come out to pack the place for lamar odom
they didnt for our other players this past season
so, out of respect for the brilliant nba career he had - you give him the respect and bring him for a prime time event
as for my money comment.. that was lazily worded by me
the idea is the honor him in a big time event and honor a great brand name he brings
not only for recruiting purposes but to bring him somewhat back in the mix
so, yes.. i still maintain you bring him back for a game that is a no brainer and wil be a sellout and buzz in the air
you bring back for PC game.. not for some game against the Duquesne's of the world..
we wil agree to disagree on this one !

i am bringing back one player
i think you are missing why i am bringing back this one great nba player
the focus should be all on him in the hopes of bringing him somewhat back in the fold and the mix
of course its a long shot.. but i got nothing to lose and it would be a special night for him
he deserves to be honored all by himself given the nba career he had

Cuttino had a much better career than Lamar did. He wasn't honored all by himself.

High school juniors and seniors were 6 and 7 years old in his last season.
Weren’t even in Kindergarten during his Lakers championships.
They don’t remember watching him play.
To them, he’s probably more of a pop culture name than NBA player they watched.

Correct, but you’re overstating his importance to high school kids who weren’t even in grade school when he was in his prime winning championships.ElmCityRhody wrote: ↑4 months agoRhody15 wrote: ↑4 months agoHe retired 11 years ago.ElmCityRhody wrote: ↑4 months ago you are missing my overall goal in bringing him back

I love Lamar like everyone else here (my favorite number is 5 because of him) but it wouldn’t really affect much at all.

He’s so much older than the recruits we’d be targeting I don’t believe it’d have any sort of effect on it.

It would help with recruiting. He is a notable professional athlete who has been on an NBA Championship Team….. twice. Your “beliefs” unfortunately don’t translate into actuality here.Rhody15 wrote: ↑4 months agoNo, ECR said honoring Lamar would help with recruiting.Taylor Swift wrote: ↑4 months ago

You realize recruits have parents and coaches right? And that those parents and coaches have influence? And there’s a good chance a lot of those parents and coaches are of a certain age where they would know, respect and like Lamar Odom.Rhody15 wrote: ↑4 months agoNo, ECR said honoring Lamar would help with recruiting.Taylor Swift wrote: ↑4 months ago

He’s not on staff, not around the team. Doesn’t promote the program on social media.
The last time he did was when Cox was fired and he said he wanted to be the coach.
Time before that was when we were in the tournament.
I don’t think doing a little ceremony at halftime during a game would sway a kid to come here.
It’d be very very cool to have him back, just don’t believe it would affect stuff all that much.

I wonder how many Ram fans actually saw Odom play for URI. He wore a Keaney Blue jersey for just 32 games in but a single season. While that might not have been the norm in Kingston back some 25 years ago, it well be the future.

As a diehard Lakers and Rhody fan, it was incredible seeing a Rhody player win a ring. I would love to have Odom back in some capacity. I remember I was on the front page of the Projo years ago with Odom when he came to play with my team. I still have that picture hanging in my office.

consider it an invitation to get him more involved
it's a long shot but you can't tell me it wouldn't be a fun night and worth a shot
the only way this works is to have him for the PC game
the buzz and love he would feel would be optimal for that game

Re: Lamar Odom Night (?)
Of course honoring Lamar may not directly contribute to a kid committing on the spot....just like a Rhody takeover of TF Green wouldn't necessarily directly lead to someone purchasing tickets...BUT it all adds up. All the things. To build the brand and relevance of the program. Those things include honoring and celebrating your history and legacy as much and as big as possible. We don't have a ton of assets to deploy in that department. Lamar is a unique Rhody story. I personally think it's a good idea to try to bring him back again.Rhody15 wrote: ↑4 months agoI can’t see how honoring Lamar Odom one game will help with recruiting at all.bigappleram wrote: ↑4 months agoYou realize recruits have parents and coaches right? I'd rather honor Jimmy Baron. First of all, he had a much better overall career here, playing 4 years compared to 1 for Lamar. Maybe kids parents in the USA don't know Jimmy as well as Lamar, but kids in Europe definitely know who he is. He also recently coached at powerhouse IMG, so plenty of kids know him from that circuit and he is currently an NBA coach, so he's got that going for him too.

no slight to jimmy baron but you are missing my point
lamar odom = national recognition
this is about extending an olive branch and kissing his ass in the hope it gets him back in the mix or at the very least a little press to remind everyone that he played for rhody..
the night is for lamar odom and only lamar odom for the pc game
to have him share the stage w/ another rhody great goes against the very reason why i want to bring him back for the pc game

Awesome video!
I loved those Lakers teams. The team this year is incredibly frustrating. My nightmare is a Celtics Clippers finals, but it's very possible. The only thing I know for sure is the Lakers have no chance of winning a title this year.

HARRICK. It's HARRICK. Maybe you are just some old dude who wasn't on campus then. But 1997-1998 was the greatest time at Keaney Gym. Couldn't get a ticket. Standing Room only. Place was feckin crazy. Sold our soul? To who? Duke or UNC? Who did we sell our soul to? When Odom who at the time was the number one recruit was committing, the school was going bonkers. You know what happened? The Ryan Center was built. So when you sit your comfortable ass in a seat at the Ryan Center, You can thank HARRICK and ODOM for the seat you are sitting in.

I appreciate my seat...if one is saying, 'no probation, no Ryan Center', I'm thinking totally worth it (even without wifi). My wife shared a fb memory thing, it was 10 years ago today, UMass at URI that we attended our first game. Obviously, at the RC. Keaney sounds like it woulda been awesome, but I'm sas glad the RC is here, even if I didn't have to suffer (?) through it...
