OT, Bressler, but, have you noticed the car of choice by drug lords, (c)rappers, and some nouveau riche is
the Bentley Continental?
Wonderful car, but they probably know as much about cars as the ones who have glommed onto
Crystal Brut, as their drink of choice. know about Champagne. I'd bet none of them could tell Crystal from Korbel .
Let's just show how rich and popular we are, and how we can blow money!
Let's sit on the courtside at the Ryan Center!

Abdul Fox, the player you loved, was hated by all his teammates. He became 'the look at me player' the year after the NCAA tournament win against Purdue, so they froze him out and went 12-16 with basically the same team minus Mike Brown and Carlos Easterling. They did have the most entertaining came ever that year against West Virginia, I believe at 3OT 107-102 win.

Froze him out, so he averaged 20 ppg. in his senior year. Oh.
At the time, he had the most 3 pointers in a season record at URI that year.
Shot 41% from 3.
Times I met him, he seemed like a really nice kid.

Sorry, TruePoint. I don't want to ruin 'Fox Time' for you as dubbed by James Brown during the NCAA recap show. I was actually at Wake Forest to see the URI/Purdue game and when I watched on VHS (yes, VHS) I was dumbfounded by the reference. Nobody ever called it 'Fox Time', nobody, not even Abdul. We did say 'Milk Shake' during ever made free throw by him, but that was about it.

Thanks, Rod! I wish they'd just stuck with a Lincoln Continental, backseat filled with chilled Welch's White Grape Juice re-labeled, "Vin de Sap"!!!!
Speaking of Bentleys, my two youngest sons and I were on Route 4 North the other day, my youngest son bursts out that the guy driving it was picking his nose…..1 mile ahead, the guy passes me to the left, and my other guy groans, "Oh, no!!! Look, now his wife is doing it!!!"
(I hope they weren't Roadyjay's benefactors!!!!! )
And EasyEdBrown: Who??? Billy Cristal?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I was at that game, also. I was also at the North Carolina thrashing in the next round. I was 11. I think I went into the bathroom at halftime of the UNC game and washed the paint off my face. Somehow, the facts don't bear the line,
"froze him out".
I doubt Al Skinner would have put up with his best player
not getting his shots.
They stunk that year because they had Cofield playing point, which was not his natural position.
They had no real PG that year.

Bressler, you're becoming my favorite poster! You seem as nuts as I am!
God, I love cars! Used to have a toy car that my ex used to hate.
When I got my antique P1800 totaled on Reservoir Avenue, she was so happy!
"Now maybe you'll pay more attention to me!" Ah, huh.....
Just had a new drivetrain put in, rebuilt the engine, and was almost 100% restored.
Can't afford that stuff any more though.
Same with the real Champagne.

Re: Italy Trip Updates #Rhody2Rome
Rod, trust me. That team was not a team, the record bears it out. 12-16 with the same NCAA team from the year before. Certain players, who will remain nameless, would not pass to him during games. He did get almost 20 PPG because when he did get the ball, he would shoot. When starting five were out there, there two teams for Rhody out there.rodfromcranston wrote:Somehow, the facts don't bear the line,

Well, if Jason got a little more playing time as a freshman, he wouldn't have transferred and we would have had a solid PG that year.

Re: Season Ticket Reseating
Funny story. (boring the shit out of everyone) My daughter was a couple of weeks old.
I came home for lunch, to check on things.
Her best friend, who worked at Kirshenbaum was also on her lunch hour and visiting.
She's walked to our house, so I offered to take her back to work on my way back to
my job.
I was stopped with my directional on to make a left turn into the Kirshenbaum lot.
Some clown came flying around a truck that was in the right lane, and blasted us.
The car spun around three times and wound up on the opposite lane facing traffic.
If anyone was coming fast, we'd both have been killed.
The lesson here is, NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED.
Oh, and the ex was more concerned for her buddy than moi.
I had that car for 15 years, and had been from West Virginia to Montreal in it.
Same car Roger Moore drove in The Saint series. Ugh!
Oh on a tragic side note, the guy who clobbered it, wound up hanging himself later that year.

I loved that show, which is why I got the P1800.
Loved The Avengers, too. Not the silly superhero thing in the movies, but
the old British show with Emma Peel.I have all the years on VHS.

D'Angelo's getting witnesses, without knowing his own
secretary was in the accident!
He drove me home from the hospital, too!

Fox was a good kid. I had him in my classroom to speak to my students about the importance of academics. He had a nice way with the kids. Not sure if he was a good teammate. As for Jason Alexander, I was at the NIT game at BC when he hit the biggest shot of his life. He and Kyle Ivey Jones were unbelievable. They beat Billy Curley and the rest of the overrated Eagles. He was a very good player, but he could not get out of the bar near the Foundry called Bahama Bob's or something like that.

Never said he was a bad guy, only had two brief conversations at URI and it was about what he missed in the lecture. Some teammates didn't like the attention he got. He was the most skilled player and received most of the attention while the rest were looked at as overachievers which I think they resented after a while. Mike Brown was a leader and very well spoken as well as being a tough solid player that nobody questioned. When he left that leadership went with it.89er wrote:Fox was a good kid. Funny. Volvo has an ad about one in LI,
that has over THREE MILLION miles on it!
Of course they don't say how many engines its been through.
Great car, called "an everyday Ferrari". in its time.
There was a very nice white one in the window of a shop near Mews.
It was gone when I went by there a couple of weeks ago.

I love VOLVO's. First car was a hand-me-down '88 Silver 240DL which got just short of 300,000 miles until a friend of mine destroyed it by never changing the oil (after I had sold it to another friend).

Will current volvos last as long as the ones built in the 80s that you still see college kids driving? I feel like everything now is made to break so you have to replace it.

Before my dad upgraded to the 88 240DL (manual tranny, of course), we had a '84 240GL diesel manual. One of my best recollections of that car was running out on a cold morning before school and starting it up using the glow plugs a few minutes before departure. It was the first time I was allowed to sit behind the wheel and turn on any car unsupervised.

Plus 90% of today's cars look alike, as though from cookie-cutter
designs.
Manual transmissions? Try finding a car with manual transmission.
I love to look into a Vette, and see a PRNDL. Why bother?
Can't beat having full control of the car and winding through the gears.
Of course, it sucks to be stopped on a steep hill with someone right behind you.

I'm only going by what JA told me during that year. He thought he was coming in with a legit chance to start as a freshman and thought he was better than Carlos. He was talking transfer after the third game of the season.rodfromcranston wrote:I remember hearing stories about an older married woman.

Rod, paddle shifting is when there are downshift (left side) and upshift (right side) paddles that you can pull towards you to shift the car. What is often confusing is that they can be linked to an everyday "slushbox" automatic and function like "tiptronic/steptronic/etc" system to basically "ask" the computer managed tranny to up/down shift after some consideration/delay by the logic. The delay is not unlike when you stomp on the accelerator pedal on an automatic and you wait that second for the transmission to kick-down for you.rodfromcranston wrote:Also, what the hell is "paddle shifting"? My guess is
it's a clutchless mechanism on the wheel. Why?
Alternatively, you can have paddles controlling a modern dual-clutch transmission(VW group calls this DSG) which results in near instantaneous (depending on quality of said transmission) up/down shifts. The dual-clutch transmissions engage one clutch on the drive gear currently in use and one standing by aligned with the next higher gear. This way, when you request the next higher gear, one clutch disengages at the same time the other engages.
I'd love to have a nice new Passat with this feature! It is not exactly like a stick shift, but at least it's not a traditional auto transmission.
And Rod, with the dual clutch, you can just let the car shift such as when you're stuck on a hill on the East Side behind some delivery van.

So, is there a foot clutch?
I saw them make the Ferrari FF on Discovery,
and there was no shift knob or PRNDL shift stick.
Just an empty space.

No, no clutch on the electronic shifters.

I think I have paddle shifting on my Subaru Outback, which I've had for two years. Never used it.

I love my Acura RSX with manual shift. Best car I've owned. Bad thing is it has over 200k miles and they don't make them anymore. I need a new car and everything is auto transmission. Can't make a decision on what to get.

Yeah, you have to get a German car to find a decent one with manual.
My 2000 VW Jetta has 210k miles on it... original clutch. My dad taught me how to take care of a clutch, which I greatly appreciate. Learned to drive stick shift in 1" of snow in a school parking lot which made the experience of learning much more forgiving with the wheel slippage.
