Very happy to read your breakdown,Stevey. Excellent defense is a great way to impact a game and has a tendency to be overshadowed by offensive talent. I am often guilty of doing that.

That is huge news as Flagg is a certifiable beaststeveystuds06 wrote: ↑10 months ago I watched about 5 games of Farrell this week, and I think he will be our best defender the second he comes here.
He was locking up some of the best players in the country. Cooper Flagg was getting so annoyed with Farrell sticking with him all game. Flagg would score on the fast break, but anytime he tried to take Farrell he had issues. I also loved that Farrell would basically single handily create shot clock violations on some possessions. He would switch on any pick and lock up their point guard, center, and wing. It didn't matter who it was. He's that good on the defensive end.
I only had time to make a video from one game. He's number 23. I highly suggest you rewatch the video a few times once you can zero in on Farrell. Watch him battle in the post, watch him close out on shooters, watch him defend 1-5. Yes, he had a few nice blocks and a big dunk, but it was the way he defended that impressed me. He's somewhat limited on the offensive end, but every championship team needs a lockdown defender, and Farrell, without question, is that. If his offense comes around, he could be special. We shall see.
I love our '24 class.

Yup and it wasn't just Flagg. The other kid he was locking up is going to Kansas. And at peach jam, he shut down a kid going to Duke.reef wrote: ↑10 months agoThat is huge news as Flagg is a certifiable beaststeveystuds06 wrote: ↑10 months ago I watched about 5 games of Farrell this week, and I think he will be our best defender the second he comes here.

It's not like he's bad on the offensive end. He picks his spots and doesn't get many touches on that end. My guess is he averaged around 10 PPG on the tournament but I couldn't find the exact stats. He does get to line a lot. He has a quick first step and if good at getting his defender in the air. I didn't love the form of his shot,, and he has a slow release when he's shooting the 3. But he shot 19-20 from the FT line in the tournament I watched so that's a good sign.

If anyone can like and retweet on Twitter. Rhody fans gave Hammond a lot of love on Twitter. I was hoping we could do the same for Farrell. Thanks

Like any of the recruits, I look forward to seeing him here.
Love his tenacity on defense, tells me a lot about him as a player.

2 building block Archie type players. A true court general PG ala Scoochie and a Swiss Army knife type like he had with Dyshawn Pierre or Pollard. Excited for these 2 !!

Tyonne Farrell
Mount. St. Joseph
Baltimore, Md.
Forward
6-6 | 208
Named the Most Outstanding Player of Mount St. Joseph's nationally-ranked, Top 25 team, Farrell averaged 17 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as a junior in the Baltimore Catholic League. An aggressive scorer, Farrell is a long wing who can play multiple positions. A three-star recruit, he had offers from DePaul, Towson and several other programs before verbally committing to Rhode Island in July.
Farrell plays for legendary Pat Clatchey, who has nearly 800 wins for Mount St. Joseph over the last 32 years. His program has produced several Division I players, including Jaylen Adams (St. Bonaventure), Erick Atkins (Notre Dame), Louis Birdsong (St. Bonaventure), Phil Booth (Villanova), Dino Gregory (Maryland), Darryl Morsell (Maryland), George Sims (Georgetown), Will Thomas (George Mason), Cam Williams (Ohio State). Current NBA coach and former NFL player JJ Outlaw (Villanova football) also came from Clatchey's program.
"Tyonne is a physically mature young man who comes out of a great program run by Pat Clatchey," Miller said. "He can play through contact, finish in the post or step back to hit jumpers, so there is strong flexibility to his offensive game. Defensively, he has the strength to wall off drivers and is very difficult to get around. He brings a high motor to the court and has the ability to impact the game in a wide variety of ways."

I just watched Farrell and will post some clips when free, but I have to say it now. He is the best defender we will have in a long time. He's absolutely ridiculous on the defensive end. He can't score that well and has an ugly-looking shot, but this dude locks people up and has a handful of ridiculous blocks in every game I watch.

Re: '24 SF Tyonne Farrell (URI signed LOI)
You know every great team has a dude that may not put up huge stats, but they wouldn't be the same team without him? That's Farrell. He does all the little things for his team. Whether getting a big block or steal, drawing a charge, a nice assist, or a big bucket. He does whatever his team needs to win, and he goes all out 24/7. This is the type of kid that would run through a wall for his team. This is the type of kid Dan Hurley recruits. He's got a ways to go on the offensive end, but we are going to love this kid's motor.
Tonight he scored 21 pts. He had a huge shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime and made multiple plays in overtime to help them win. Including 4-4 from the line late. I've been so miserable lately it feels good to talk about something positive like this kid.

Few days ago in a post you basically admitted you’ve been wrong about most players you’ve hyped up recently.
Now, you’re saying a high school senior, with 0 seconds of college ball, will be one of the best defenders we’ve had in a long time.
Will you ever just wait till the kids play in college before making pretty outlandish claims?

If you actually knew anything about him, which you don't, that's literally what he's known for. That's why he's being pursued by D1 programs His defending. Our defense has absolutely sucked the last few years. So yes, I think he'll be one of the better defenders we've had in years. He's a long way off offensively, so he'll come here as a specialist, but he would, without question, be the best defender on our roster. Which isn't saying much.Rhody15 wrote: ↑6 months ago“He is the best defender we will have in a long time.”steveystuds06 wrote: ↑6 months ago I just watched Farrell and will post some clips when free, but I have to say it now. Nothing wrong with that, ease up on him.
Besides I am always excited about a player that prides himself on defense and willing to do all the little things.
Both Hammond and Farrell seem to be those type of recruits who put their team first.

We'll see Jersey...I hope they play well in Archie's system. I agree, though. They both seem to be team-first, hard-working players, which we have seemed to lack for the most part.Jersey77 wrote: ↑6 months ago15, I think Stevey is just pointing out a possible silver lining to this year and giving us fans something to look forward to.Rhody15 wrote: ↑6 months ago“He is the best defender we will have in a long time.”steveystuds06 wrote: ↑6 months ago I just watched Farrell and will post some clips when free, but I have to say it now. Honestly, when I say I think he'll be the best defender in a long time, it's more a reflection of how poorly we've performed defensively rather than solely about Farrell's skills. I think our defense has sucked ever since Jeff and Cyril left..
Farrell probably won't even have that big of a role next year, if any. He's a very good defender, but he's got a ways to go in other areas. Similar to how Connor is a great shooter but isn't ready to play at this level... Anyone who knows basketball can see this kid is a great defender. Anyone who knows the game can see he has a motor that you can't teach. Like Cyril had... I've watched him play in a lot of games, but watching him lock up Cooper Flagg was awesome.

He’s a very lazy poster when it comes to prospect player analysis compared to the posters here that take time to provide player info, intel, insight, opinion and supporting info like vids.
Stevey, Ignore the lazy poster that does nothing but criticize the player analysis effort of others. We can have a normal, intelligent discussion without his lazy input being addressed.
Carry on, Stevey - and others here that take time to add valuable info for the rest of us to consider.

Ya, I don't get it...Not only that, but 15 mocks me for spending the time to do it. Implying that I don't work hard. By the way, I work nonstop.. Keep in mind I posted this video at like 11 pm. I watched the game after work and my tennis match.. I do this at random hours when I have the time because we seriously lack any buzz about our players. Once they commit, we post some things, and a few weeks later, it's crickets. I do have a soft spot for many because I get to know them, and I've already admitted that. I really really want these guys to succeed.
As for Farrell's impact. He may get minutes on his hustle alone. If Archie wants to send a message that this is what he wants from everyone, that may be helpful. He's a long athletic wing. His offense has come a long way, but he'll have trouble scoring at this level. He'll score on hustle plays and put-backs for now. He's a good player to throw in the middle of a 2-3 zone. Better passer than expected and a strong slasher.

I don’t know your career, nor do I particularly care to find out, because it doesn’t affect me at all. I don’t think that sentence is harsh, just the truth.
Keep making stuff up if it makes you feel better, I guess.
I want all recruits to succeed as well, but we continue getting burned with everyone waving the Pom Poms when they commit and I’d rather wait until they get on a D1 court and produce.

I saw the block at the opening of the clip. I saw good hustle, good timing, good extension and good lift off the floor on that block.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑6 months agoDId you see that block in the clip JD? He does that in every game I watch. Which isn't saying much.

His shot from the line does look a little funky in that it seems more of a push shot from a lower body start. But, then the release has nice arm and wrist extension.
I agree that he will need to improve offensively (skill wise) for A10 level competition and higher but in other areas he could help sooner.
As for 15, that type of post from him isn’t worth a response, imho.

Do the rest of us a solid like an adult and avoid this side of the board and go discuss only players that actually play in games for Rhody.

Re: '24 SF Tyonne Farrell (URI verbal)
Went back to take another look at this older video because I couldn’t remember what I watched. Ooph!steveystuds06 wrote: ↑10 months ago I watched about 5 games of Farrell this week, and I think he will be our best defender the second he comes here.
Farrell looks very active defensively in this vid. Also showed good court vision with the pass he rifled from outside the 3 point line to a teammate for a layup.

Re: '24 SF Tyonne Farrell (URI signed LOI)
You've mentioned this 'hard pass on watching a high school game' like a hundred thousand times, man. We know you are way above watching a high school game. Why don't you give me reasons why you think my comment is wrong? Name a few players you feel are lockdown defenders over the last few years. I think Makhel was a good shot blocker, but I don't think he was good as an on-ball defender. I thought Fatts was great at steals, but he gave up a lot of buckets due to his size. But I would understand if people felt like he was a great defender. I think the last legit lockdown defenders were Cyril and Stan. If you disagree with that, then let's discuss. Instead of calling me out, explain to me why I'm wrong. Maybe you can come down to the third class for once, watch some tape of Farrell, and form an actual opinion about a recruit. It's a lot easier to just wait until they play here, and then, if they have a bad game, bring up that myself and others had good things to say about the player.Rhody15 wrote: ↑6 months ago“Put in extensive time” to watch multiple high school games and analyze them?Jdrums#3 wrote: ↑6 months agoIt is easier for 15 to be critical of someone else’s player breakdown than to actually put in the extensive time and research to formulate his own breakdown and put it out on KB for the benefit of the board.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑6 months ago

To each is own.
It's evident that some very good high school players turn out to be busts, just as some very good college players end up as NBA busts. I will continue to discuss the strengths I see in our players, and if I believe someone excels in a particular aspect—such as Farrell's defense—I'll offer my honest opinion. Given that our defense has struggled for years as it has, bringing in any player recognized for their defense would lead me to believe they are the best defenders we've had in a long time. We've been a very bad team and seem to be bad again, so if we aren't bringing in better players, we are in serious trouble.

I had a chance to watch Farrell's game a few days ago... He did a fantastic job doing the little things for his team. Had a few huge rebounds and charges. He played fantastic defense, as always. He's a decent passer as well.. But man, his shooting form needs a lot of work. He's going to have some real issues scoring at the next level. My guess is he'll score on hustle points and putbacks. Similar to Connor and Cam this year, I expect Hammond to have a role right away, and I expect Farrell to need time to develop. Hopefully, they both make a huge impact, but we'll see.

"But Mount Saint Joseph had a second half to make amends, and with pressure defense combined with a concerted effort to attack the basket on offense, it found its way. Senior forward Tyonne Farrell scored a game-high 23 points and junior guard Jordan Brathwaite added 16 in leading the Gaels to a 60-51 win over Goretti in Baltimore Catholic League play."

I see Hamm ahead of Farrell in his development so far but it’s a semi-informed perception because I’ve watched more of Hamm than Farrell.
Hope they are already studying up on the pack line D.

I love this kid's upside on D, but he's so far away offensively. I don't know how he gets big minutes next year. If you watch him, you'll immediately see what I'm talking about regarding his shot. It needs a lot of work.. Archie needs to land a few impactful vets in the portal. I hope Weston sticks around because the more he gains confidence, the more he will be a good two-way starter in the A10.

I don't follow high school ball as much as you or many other posters, but from my perspective on All Star or All League teams particularly in basketball, you must have some above average offensive abilities to be named first team.

Re: '24 SF Tyonne Farrell (URI signed LOI)
Greg Hammond was the number 1 ranked player in his entire state and one of the worst offensive players I've ever seen.
I'm not saying he can't help us on offense. A dude with his motor will score by out-hustling people. Like Cyril... Farrell is a good passer and pretty decent at the elbow. He scores a lot of his baskets by slashing and driving. There are plenty of college basketball players who came in very raw offensively but were studs on the defensive end. Lamonte Ulmer couldn't shoot at all his freshman year, but he got by on hustle plays and his athleticism. Hass Martin could only dunk the ball his freshman year. He was very raw everywhere else. Mekhi Long was raw but became a solid scorer for ODU. When you go from high school to D1, you play dudes much faster, stronger, and older. Farrell will have a tougher time scoring. That doesn't mean he can't become a good offensive player. I don't think he's there yet. If you watch him play and think his shot looks good, please send the tape because I haven't seen it.
