Regarding Tenin Magassa, Tammi said that she played hurt all of last season and we didn't see what she could really do. Tammi says that Tenin is now fully healthy, so watch out.ramster wrote: β7 months ago Observations from 1st game with Sacred Heart:
- Tammy said at the A10 Media Day interview that this year's team was driving to win Conference, Win the A10 Tournament and reach the NCAA Tournament. Tonight this team never let up from start to finish.
- Even in the last few minutes of Q4 Sacred Heart was stalling and working the shot clock down before going to the basket, as soon as URI got the ball they were off and running, even up 50 points. All URI players are working hard and competing for playing time.
- Current Sophomore Anaelle Dutat was a star in last years A10 Tournament and in the NIT and was named A10 All Defensive team preseason - yet she didn't start tonight. That shows how incredibly strong this team is. Dutat had 10 rebounds, 8 points and her usually tenacious defense in 18 minutes of playing time. Tammi knows what Anaelle is capable of and I'd expect her playing time to increase as bigger, tougher games approach
- Tenin Magassa, the transfer last season from Dayton, was much improved over last season. She was strong offensively and she had 6 blocks. 2 blocks were on the same play as she blocked, then opponent got the block, drove towards the hoop only to have Magassa block it a 2nd time. Amazing Toure and Magassa playing together and each could be considered the best big in the Conference - and here we have them both at URI and playing together!!!
- Maye Toure was strong as expected. She has improved on an already good shooting stroke.
- Tammi had the team focus on getting the ball inside to Toure and Magassa particularly in the 1st 2 quarters taking advantage of their height and skill
- Sophomore Howa Komara was 1st off the bench. She has gained strength since last year and showed a strong inside presence especially defensively
- I have never seen as talented and deep WBB Team at URI
- Freshman Eva Dechent made her appearance midway through Q3. She played well and demonstrated strong potential
- Freshmen Katie Leddon and Sophia Vital played well, picking right up on the fast pace being played.
- Last minutes of the game was Dutat, Sene, Vital, DeChent and Ledden - 2 Sophs and 3 Freshmen - I found myself thinking these 5 could finish 2nd or 3rd in the A10 Conference if they were themselves another A10 team - that is how deep the quality of our bench is. We are talented, deep and have a nice mix of players of different age/experience
- We are definitely the team to beat in the A10 and we have an exciting rest of the year ahead of us.

Yep, absolutely love the constant intensity of this team from one end of the court to the other.ramster wrote: β7 months ago Just back from URI's Friday night 78-38 win over UMASS-Lowell
- 1317 Attendance for the Friday Night 6pm start
- URI played a Full Court press against UMASS-Lowell relentlessly for the entire Four 10 minute quarters
- UMass Lowell had an astounding 32 Turnovers with 18 TO's due to URI Steals. Teisha Hylam led with 7 steals, Dee Dee Davis had 4. UML had more TO's with 32 than they had rebounds with 30
- URI had only 8 Turnovers to go with 18 Assists
- URI was only 4-18 3FG's but a highlight was promising Freshman Eva DeChent hitting 2-4 3FG's in 7 minutes of play.
- Tammi had all 12 players get playing time and there was never a decrease in defensive intensity no matter who was in the game regardless of which Quarter we were playing and regardless of how big the URI lead was
- Tammi was coaching with the same energy thought regardless of the size of the lead
- URI looked like a team capable of being Nationally Ranked at some point in the season. They were dominating for the 2nd game this week to go to 2-0
- URI Players were unselfish, passed well and defense was very high level

Tammi has this team rolling on all gears right now, they are so impressive.
Yeah, I probably am more impressed after watching them. I am also planning on going to the St. Johnβs game.ramster wrote: β7 months ago77,Jersey77 wrote: β7 months agoYep, absolutely love the constant intensity of this team from one end of the court to the other.ramster wrote: β7 months ago Just back from URI's Friday night 78-38 win over UMASS-Lowell

Did you feel you have to see it to believe it?
Tammi never lets up, never lets her players let up.
UML picked preseason to finish 6th American East. We play at Maine next Tuesday picked to finish 2nd in AE.
Maine leads UMASS at Maine 54-33 early in Q4 this Sunday afternoonJersey77 wrote: β7 months ago Our next game is on Tuesday 11/14 against Maine in Orono.
The start of 3 road games and should also be our toughest test to date.
They are currently 1-1, losing to Quinnipiac and beating La Salle.
Maine is picked 2nd in the AEC and return all 5 starters from last season (11-5 AEC)
Coming back is '23 AEC POY (F) Adrianna Smith and All-Conference player (G) Anne Simon.
Starting 5:
(G)Simon- 15.5 pts/ 8 rebs
(F)Smith - 11 pts/ 12 rebs
(G)Talon - 9.5 pts/ 5 rebs
(G/F)Bornemann- 8.5 pts/ 6.5 rebs
(G/F)Hodgson - 4.5 pts
The haven't shot well from 3PT and have a poor assist/turnover ratio.
Overall, we have more talent, size, and depth and should win by double-digits.
Curious to see how our team reacts in their 1st road game.

Great chance to see NC State play against UCONN
NC State (1-0) ranked #27 AP, UCONN (1-0) ranked #2 AP

This is why I can't root for a team like UConn. Because this guy flips out and yells at his players when they lose. Losing is a part of life. Everyone loses something eventually. Learning to deal with your short comings and make the most of your strengths is the hallmark of a well rounded person. Learning to pick yourself up and get back up and move forward was the lesson of Rocky Balboa, and it's a popular one for a reason.
That's why Rhody is so easy to cheer for. They won't always come out on top. But as long as they make the most of their talent and continuously improve from game to game... it's alllllll goooood.
(I have a 7 year old, so we read a lot of Pete the Cat in this household)
UMass lost two time A10 Women's Player of the Year Sam Breen to graduation. Also lost 1st team guard Sydney Taylor, 2nd team guard Ber'Nyah Mayo, and all-defensive guard Destiney Philoxy. Looks like Taylor and Philoxy to graduation and Mayo to St. John's, who we'll see later this yearSGreenwell wrote: β7 months ago That's a pretty good beatdown. Has UMass slipped from last year, or is Maine that good? A mixture of the two? Either way, it'll clearly be more of a test for URI.
#00 is Ellie Mitchell, two time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year. In our 61-53 win against them in the Ryan Center 11/20/21 she had 6 points, 15 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 turnover. Last year when we lost 56-54 at their place she had 2 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 2 turnovers
I feel like Dutat will see a lot of time against NC State defending Rivers.
Agree Billyboy. 1st team preseason defensive team and only a sophomore. Keep strong defensive pressure on Rivers!!Billyboy78 wrote: β7 months agoI feel like Dutat will see a lot of time against NC State defending Rivers.
Sophie is only 4-24 on 3's so far this season, and 2-18 in the last two games. She definitely looked off against Lowell
