Fun way to start out the season! Beat up on a pretty bad team (for like 90% of the game) just like you should in a situation like this. Don't want to overreact too much to one game, I call it in the Onyekaba rule, but pretty clear there's been a big talent upgrade and things are moving in the right direction.

Few observations..
Zek and House are LEGIT. Add Westin and we have 3 solid go to guys on offense.
This game changed once Wright hit the floor. We haven’t had anyone with that court vision since JD.
I think our front court had an off night and they were still 100x better than last year.
I know this was a Q4 opponent but I was happy with the output. GO RHODY!!!

Re: 11/6 | Central Connecticut | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
Always Wright is a classic facilitator. Isn’t going to look for his own shot much but is going to make everyone around him look better.
Zek and House should prevent us from long scoring droughts. If we have proper spacing they are going to be able to score against any defense.
Our bigs looked good in first half but got beat to way too many 50/50 balls in second frame. Guys were also leaking in a blowout looking for run outs. That stuff should get cleaned up.
Sloppiness in 2nd half due to odd personnel matchups, some forcing and the lack of focus that happens with big lead especially for a team new to each other.
We are better defensively with Kortright out there but much better offensively with Wright out there. Will be an interesting balance for Archie.
Bilau is going to help our bigs are still green.

Last year team would have won this game but it would have been a struggle. These transfers look real solid so far.

The defense needs some cleaning up. Too many wide open shots due to a bit of overplaying the perimeter. I think that is easily addressed this year as we seem more athletic and smarter on the court.

Agreed, last year’s team would have found a way to blow that lead. Either way things are looking up. We’ve rebounded from the bottom.

Team looked improved especially the offensive end. Rhody did what you’re supposed to do against a lesser opponent in a home opener tune up. Can’t really draw too many conclusions about the upcoming season based on tonight’s game but they should be at least watchable.

Re: 11/6 | Central Connecticut | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
Good win. Shot well. The O looks good but would like to see the D tighten up.
Nice to see we have multiple scoring options on O. That should help us avoid the long scoring droughts we had in games last season.
If we can tighten up the D, shoot better from the line and take care of the ball then we can certainly finish in the top 8 of the A10.
Satisfying start to the season. Go Rhody!

Just got home. Very good student section turnout, really a better crowd overall than I expected. Although only one game, this is a MUCH better product to watch play. I really felt I could see the early tenants of Archie's coaching displayed in the way the kids handled themselves on both ends of the court. Not perfect by any means, but definitely an improved team from last year already. Keep it rolling.

Actual coaching aside...it's helpful when you have guys that can catch and handle the ball...RI_Bred wrote: ↑7 months ago Just got home. Like, when they bring the ball up the court, you know there's a good chance they're going to get it to the point where they get a shot off.

First 30 minutes were great but they seem unfocused in the final 10. Fuchs looked great at the start and hit a trey to start the second but then he sat for awhile. Not sure why. Zek and House are going to be a lot of fun to watch.

House and Zek should be able to get 10+ almost every game, they score with ease.
House is a bull in a china shop, full steam ahead.
Zek reminds me of Lamonte Ulmer.
Always reminds me of a poor man’s Dowtin and 2X the player as Thomas was last year. Very crafty with the ball.
Will definitely need Bilau, Foumena I believe will struggle against better and quicker teams.
Puzzling game from Kortright, he didn’t play bad but surprised he didn’t score.
All in all, the difference in talent is night and day.

There were about 10 students in my section. Students just aren't going to put up with the worst seats in the house when there are better seats open. And it's hard to build a student section when they're scattered throughout the building

House reminds me of Jiggy Williamson a little bit (maybe the other old timers see it). That's probably why I like House because Jiggy is my all time favorite Ram. i love Always' game too. He runs the team well and he made some beautiful passes. And I also agree with everybody about Zek. He's a stud. Feels great to enjoy a game at the RC again.

When they got House, you knew we were going to be pretty good. KJ really took advantage of that new portal rule. They basically got this kid signed before anyone else even knew he was available. They didn't have time to react. He wanted to go somewhere where he was going to be the man. He got his wish. I hope he scores 25 every game. And I hope this team scores 80+ every game.
Then they got Montgomery, you saw how those Bradley fans reacted when they found out. They were beside themselves. Then Brown, then Kortright, then Wright. The world doesn't even know about Fuchs yet.
I don't know if they can ever pull that off again with the portal, but they did a great job when they had to.

Re: 11/6 | Central Connecticut | 7:00PM (ESPN+)
And the best part about House and Montgomery...don't have to re-recruit them. They can't go anywhere without sitting so that means they aren't going anywhere. Add Green, Weston and Kortright to that list. So while the rule may hurt us this year with Green I think in the long run it's better for the game and better for an A10 program.
