Dan Doyle, the man that created the International Institute of Sport that was situated on the URI campus and started the World Scholar-Athlete Games has died. Doyle was convicted in 2016 for embezzlement of some $1M and sentenced to seven years. He served his time at the ACI and was released in May of 2022. The 74 year old was living in CT at the time of his death.
The only remnants of the foundation that he founded are the empty decaying buildings along Rte 138 by the bike bath that once housed it.

Re: Dan Doyle dies (International Inst of Sport)
I thought about Doyle a few times over the years and wondered how he was doing in the joint. It looks like he did almost the full stretch of time. In any case if he was seriously ill, it's good he got some final days on the outside before he died. Whatever was going on at the "IIS" I always thought there was potential for problems, even if closely monitored.

Re: Dan Doyle dies (International Inst of Sport)
Major part of the "black eye" is that Doyle was allowed to walk right in and do it. Who was looking out for the U's interests? Doyle paid the price by essentially spending the rest of his life in the ACI (no country club). I didn't hear about anybody else losing out that should have been watching things (like with their jobs).
I never knew what the overall purpose was and because I really didn't care, I never said anything about it. But I didn't like it and didn't view it as a positive.

Probably the same people that allowed University land to be given to an outside group to build a Greek amphitheater that would never be finished. I think my signature is pretty clear on who the blame lies with
Take down the Robert Carothers banner and fix the concession stand lines
