Of course he'll play. This is a self-described Catholic institution that once let a walking, talking violation of the First and Second Commandments wear its uniform for four years.

Re: Local college basketball player being investigated by PPD
It's no comparison, before, during or after
PC has far more crimes, but it is also as RI Red and I said, Breed will be back playing, never a doubt. History repeats. PC lets guys off the hook most every time.

Re: Local college basketball player being investigated by PPD
URI/the community can't control what people do when they leave. But as current students/players, a situation like this and the school's response would speak volumes.
Dana Tate wanted his car back from the towing impound (which if you've ever parked on this campus you understand fully and he was probably 100% in the right), but he got bounced out. I've never heard of gun or DV crimes at URI. Plenty from the college down the street from Chad Brown though.
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

Re: Local college basketball player being investigated by PPD
I'm no fan of PC
But in fairness this is an unfair statement
In all the readings in this case I've read no gun was ever found
The girl recanted her story in court with her lawyer denying that a gun was used and that she was intoxicated.
Breed's lawyer claims no gun was ever found.
It's not like a gun was found at an airport screening by TSA.
There is zero evidence of a gun, only the girls original claim, since recanted. No witnesses of a gun either.

Here is excerpt from article in todays PROJO by Bill Koch and Katie Mulvaney:
There never was a gun presented as evidence by police and the girl recanted/modified her original story

I can’t imagine anyone taking him while those charges are hanging over him.

Re: Local college basketball player being investigated by PPD
Have no dog in this fight but it is much more likely the original reporting of this story is accurate and there was a gun that there was not one. Come on Ramster, you can't be this naive to say oh the police never presented a gun into evidence (news flash guns used in actual murders are not located a majority of the time, does that not mean a gun was used) therefore none existed. Or the girlfriend recanted (another thing that happens frequently) and therefore it did not happen. But the best one was referencing any comment from a defense attorney in relation to any charges related to their client. They have one job and one job only, to do and say anything to get their client off and guess what, they do. Many are bold faced, professional liars taught this in law school. Not trying to offend any defense attorneys here but it is an occupational hazard that you know exists when 95% plus of your clients are guilty and you are hired to get them off.ramster wrote: ↑11 months agoI'm no fan of PC

Now all of the reasons you mentioned are the reasons why he was not charged with any gun crime. But not being charged does not mean it did not happen, just that the prosecutor did not believe he or she could prove it in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt. Which is often impossible to do when the wife/girlfriend recants which is what happened in this situation. But he was still charged with a crime, just not a gun crime.
I just reread this and Ramster I apologize for making this personal. I should have just said what I said without mentioning you by name and taking out the snark. Alot of this comes from my disdain for criminal defense attorneys and it was redirected at you.

I must have missed class that day in law school when they taught lying. Maybe all the prosecuting attorneys missed it too.

Somebody paid her off to change her story, and it's probably the same person who's paying his lawyer.

Re: Local college basketball player being investigated by PPD
I am not sure I agree with this statement. Those of us who are lawyers, and/or law enforcement know, that most of the time victims of domestic related crimes recant their stories a few days later. When I was on the parole board, we would have victims of horrific assaults appear before us to beg that we parole their "loved ones" and accepting all the blame for the assault themselves.
That is why the cases can still be prosecuted, to account for victim recanting. (The Thurman Law)
It is a very real part of the cycle of abuse in domestic relations.

To say nothing of the fact that all of the interesting bits came from the defense attorney outside of the courtroom. Let's see what happens when things happen for realLoveThoseRams wrote: ↑11 months agoI am not sure I agree with this statement.
