I don't think any of our transfers have found a new home yet, have they? Leggett is obviously in demand, but its radio silence on the others. Kind of like professional free agency, it does seem like there is a cascade effect once the more elite talents decide where they're going.Jersey77 wrote: ↑1 year agoPride listed at #51 and Ish at #50.NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑1 year agoDoes that have anything to do with Rhody? I now wonder if there will still be a limit on how many official visits a school can have.

Nice! A good player could probably set up a nice circuit and just "visit about the country" for weeks on end. Or just hit the road and wing it ..."yeah, I'm in ____ right now and I'd love to come visit, but I need a ride to the airport and a plane ticket. Ok ok...so.... your GM is going to make all the arrangements?...ok, sounds great"

“I’m a bad guy to talk to about the portal coaching changes because it’s ridiculous," Izzo said, via Illini Inquirer. "I think all the people that thought it might be a good idea to give kids coaches some freedom? I don’t think they feel that today. To transfer take a new job whenever you want, leave whenever you want, do whatever you want. I’m glad it wasn’t that way when I was in school because I would’ve made a lot of bad mistakes. Before it’s all said and done, the biggest losers will be all the people who thought they were the biggest winners. And that’s the kids, the players, the students. Not a fan of it. But there’s a lot of things I’m not a fan of that I have to do. I’ll try to do the best I can. It makes things hard. I hope he'll add in the part where he gives a portion of his $6M/year salary to his players to off-set what they bring to the team to make him that money.
It's kinda funny. All these big name coaches could probably start their own collective and throw 2-5% of their earnings at their teams to keep them if they're that worried.
What a fraud. You've made probably $50M at a minimum and could leave at any point in time or leverage another school's offer to enrich yourself.
Shut up.
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

Like I said earlier in the year, the early courtship phase probably starts in the post game handshake line. College basketball’s version of speed dating.
Coach to player: Great game. I like your style.
Player to coach: How ‘bout we hook up? My rep will be in touch to talk numbers.
Coach to player: Have him check in with my GM.
Coach to player 2: Sweet stroke from 3…

I am okay with freedom of movement; just have to find that happy medium where young players can make the best possible decisions for their situations and not have one factor in the decision be grossly overemphasized.
Usually, for me anyway, with such dramatic change I would expect some common sense guidelines (as best as can be anticipated) to limit over-reach and unscrupulous parties angling in to take advantage of the new landscape. However, an argument can be made to let the new landscape play out some and see how things progress before tweaking things. Maybe the latter is the NCAA’s plan.
Like others have said here, I think with the extra COVID year ending and with time, the new landscape will level off somewhere between where it used to be and where it is now.
There could be one monkey wrench however, that could just continue to drive the whole system out of control and that would be, I believe, the P5 going on a wild NIL and program resources spending spree to decimate the non-P5 competition - like what we (the U.S.) did to the old Soviet Union during the Cold War of the 80’s. I could see a scenario where the P5 collude to use this opportunity to break away and grab the whole pie formally or in practice only because their arrogance and greed, imho, have no bounds.

Repeating what is already being said. The portal has destroyed college basketball, it has destroyed fan loyalty to the team and the players and there is no such thing as a student athlete. They are assets to the school and themselves to make money period.

I would be thrilled if we can land a PF like him.
Maybe Duane can be of some help here.
He is very strong, can rebound and finish in the paint.
My biggest hesitation would be his history of injuries.

Izzo could've left for the NBA but didn't. Yes, he makes a lot of money...he's got a college degree, paid his dues as an assistant, head coaching experience, and a long record of success. He gets paid what the coaching market pays right now.
Among the charities the Izzo Legacy Family Fund support are the Cristo Rey Community Center, MSU Safe Place, the Wounded Warrior Project, the MSU Student Food Bank and the Greater Lansing Food Bank. So he's given a lot of money back to others who need it.
Do you know how much tuition, room, board, and books is worth at MSU?
Again, kids have always been allowed to transfer. His point is kids now transfer for no reason, with no guidance, without having to sit out and can transfer multiple times without sitting. This is not good long term for student-athletes and clearly is not good for the overall game of basketball. Or does nobody care about the overall good of the game? You're in favor of 1,300 kids transferring on a yearly basis? That's a good thing?
You tell him to shut up? So wait, you can have an opinion but he can't?

It’s difficult to carry on a good discussion on the board without making some assumptions. For me, it’s difficult to project what’s in a persons heart without knowing them personally so I tend to give the benefit of the doubt…unless it is someone associated with a P5/P6 program.
Seriously though, good stuff. Carry on.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
As NIL stabilizes, I would like to think future movement gets a little more limited. So many schools are just starting to figure out collectives/endorsements, while other ones are hitting players with virtually a blank check book. Those guys will always exist, and there will always be a gap there, but as recently as a few weeks ago, people were saying FAU, entering the tournament, had $0 NIL. Schools like that need to figure it out. Can't throw kids a $1,000 hat deal and think it's all good.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
What happened to building for the future with freshmen and transfers with 3 years left to play? Philosophy has changed a lot from 6 months ago. Probably a good thing the philosophy changed but 6 months ago we never would have been filling the roster with transfers with 3 years and 25 year olds.
Whatever gets us in the Top Tier of the A10 and ability to win the A10 Championship AQ. Just surprised at the change of direction.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
Yes Ramster, at this point just get the best players available to fill a need, period.ramster wrote: ↑1 year agoWhat happened to building for the future with freshmen and transfers with 3 years left to play? Philosophy has changed a lot from 6 months ago. Probably a good thing the philosophy changed but 6 months ago we never would have been filling the roster with transfers with 3 years and 25 year olds.
Whatever gets us in the Top Tier of the A10 and ability to win the A10 Championship AQ. Just surprised at the change of direction.

Yes Theblueram, theblueram wrote: ↑1 year agoSo he's played at Oklahoma, GW and VTech? And now going to VCU? This guy is never getting a degree as you need at least 60 credits at a college to get a degree.
And never sat out a year playing for ACC, A10 and Big 12 now back to A10.
So does he sit out this year? Somehow I doubt it.
Does he somehow now get the Grad Year Transfer for immediate eligibility?
