Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
Somewhat interesting Dan Hurley experience. I was at a Bank Newport reception where he spoke, I think it was the summer going into his second year at URI, when he was hyping Gilvydas Biruta and his other recruits that were becoming eligible that year. He talked about how his goal was to turn URI into a VCU of the north. A program that contends for A10 title every year and that he had plans to stay even when other schools start calling because he liked RI so much and it reminded him of home. He laid out a bunch of team and program goals and it was very impressive. He also shared his personal goal is to coach in the NBA someday.
Keeping things in perspective...
Hurley (12-18):
Y1 8-21 (T14th), Y2 14-18 (10th), Y3 23-10 (T2nd, NIT), Y4 17-15 (7th), Y5 25-10 (T3rd, NCAA), Y6 26-8 (1st, NCAA).
Miller (22-?):
Y1 9-22 (14th), Y2 12-20 (T10th).

Probably number of possessions, or adjusted tempo rate. The range is low 60s to high 70s, and as the score increases so does that number.

If the University had a real merchandising arm you'd have Rhody fans all over with that same picture hanging up in their homes

Hurley to NBA someday?
"That is something I aspire to down the road. You know, I love college," Hurley said. "I hope I can continue to put UConn in this position moving forward. I don't think we're going anywhere.

Nice last official team event for the champs! It took some planning, but all the players were able to be there, including the grads, transfers, and guys going through NBA workouts. Part of me still cannot believe it happened, but it was all so well-deserved for a really special group of guys.

A starting 5 of: Newton, Spencer, Castle, Karaban, and Clingan should once again put UConn in a good position to contend for the national championship.

Dan Hurley signs
6 years
$33 million
The contract, worth nearly $33 million over the next six years, puts Hurley among the highest paid coaches in men’s basketball. The deal “includes the opportunity to earn additional compensation in the form of performance-based incentives,” according to a team release.
“I am thrilled to have Dan Hurley leading our men’s basketball program,” said Athletic Director David Benedict in the release. “The work he and his staff have done over the past five years in rebuilding our program, which culminated in the Huskies once again reaching the pinnacle of college basketball, has been nothing short of remarkable. I know all of UConn Nation is ecstatic that Dan will continue to lead this program for the foreseeable future.”

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
Average compensation of over 5.5 MILLION DOLLARS. He was never going to get that type of money here. Not certain how UConn, with its massive athletic dept deficits, can afford such an exorbitant amount.

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
Jon Rothstein went from PC Tuesday to UCONN Wednesday. Wonder if he is bypassing URI this year.....from his UCONN visit:
Greetings from Storrs. Here for UConn practice. Spending this AM with the reigning national champions.
Greetings from Storrs. Here for UConn practice. Spending this AM with the reigning national champions.
- Early prediction on UConn's 2023-24 starting five:
Tristen Newton, Cam Spencer, Stephon Castle, Alex Karaban, Donovan Clingan
- The one thing that stands out today at UConn: You would never think that the Huskies won a national title by the way that they're practicing. Relentless intensity.
- UConn freshman Solomon Ball is standing out in this practice. Can score from all three levels. Has some Cuttino Mobley/Delonte West in his game. Bucket getter.
- Donovan Clingan is noticeably bigger and stronger than the end of last season. Playing now around 285. Body looks more ready to absorb contact moving forward.
- Solomon Ball. Buy Stock Now.
- Bench production is a major question for UConn. A year ago, the Huskies had Clingan, Diarra, Calcaterra, and Alleyne in reserve. Will the bench unit in 2023-24 be able to provide 75-80% of that production? Ball, Diarra, Samson Johnson, Jaylin Stewart, and Jayden Ross are KEY.

Dan is now considered a Top Tier head coach by the Athletic.
Also, guess who is with Calipari, Bennett, Rick Barnes, Shaka Smart in Tier 2?
If anyone wants a free 30 day pass to enjoy the Athletic, just send me a private message.

Boeheim stayed longer than he should have but still made the Sweet 16 in 2021.
Sean Miller should probably be in that next tier.
