We do need starters, 5 of them, not 13.jcru wrote: ↑1 year ago some of these fans did a break down of Archie's players at Indiana and the players for the other teams in the Big Ten, and showed you step by step, the way you would compare rosters of URI vs VCU, Dayton, St. Louis, etc, how his players at Indiana were some of the lowest rated in the Conference and how you could possibly expect to beat the better teams that way?
We heard this, and thought, well, that's not going to matter, because this is the A-10, not the Big Ten, he's gonna get the talent, don't worry. He's been here before.
Well, the jury is still out on that one. I'm rooting for him, but he's under more scrutiny in year 2, than he was in year 1. I wouldn't make this move with Robinson, that's just my opinion. I would make sure every single player you get through free agency is expected to be a high impact player. As ramster said, we need starters, not role players. He's got enough developmental people on the roster already, if that's what he and his assistants like to do.

How's your math?
We have 5 open slots, and we just signed someone who can start.
Now we have 4 left. We need 4 more starters.
1. ??
2. ??
3. ??
4. ??
5. Tyson Brown
We already have 7-8 misfits and projects and role players, and reclamation projects already on the roster, that's why we were dead last.

No math needed. I don't see him as a starter.jcru wrote: ↑1 year ago How's your math?

My math is about as good as yours, I guess. We have 5 returning players as of now. Not sure how you get 7-8 misfits out of 5 players. 2 incoming frosh, 1 transfer, 5 spots remaining.jcru wrote: ↑1 year ago How's your math?

Sorry, and two incoming freshman. Obviously they don't fit into any of those aforementioned catergories.
But they aren't meant to be starters their first years.

Me-shoot-first PGs are not really true point guards. In both cases, Wheeler and Russell, their first priority were to score 40 pts each game.
They were more like particularly short statured combo guards playing PG. That's Cheeks too.
Harrick's influence on Tyson famously made him a more effective PG his senior year, and helped open up Mobley's untapped game.

65-108 is not a small sample size. He is a 60.2% FT shooter. We need guards to be 75% and up FT shooting to be aiming for the top tier if the A10.

Re: '20 PG Chris Robinson (Dodge City CC ---> ???)
The last real PG we had, is now playing for the Raptors. It's been a rare thing for Rhody to have a real PG, and in Dowton's case, genius Cox didn't even use him there in that position. Absolute waste.
so, unless there is a Dowton lurking about, our most common fall back option over the last three decades for PG has been the Wheeler and Russell kind of point guard, who moves the offense by creating their own offense and making the defense spaz out trying to adjust to them and opening up the rest of the offense that way, as opposed to being a great distributor. You are talking guys who can easily drop 25-30 pts on any team on the schedule without notice.
Robinson is not that. I'm guessing Robinson would make some people here long for the return of Bassy.

Tyson carrer average assists is 5.7.

Right now our point guard is Cam Estevez. We need a starting PG and we could probably use a backup PG so that we don't put Estevez into bad positions year 1jcru wrote: ↑1 year ago How's your math?

At least by Sports Reference, we had seven scholarship guards or wings on last year's roster. As of right now, we have four (Weston, Estevez, House, Dubsky). Still plenty of room at the inn here, for Robinson or someone else. House is probably the only guy with a track record that makes you'd think he earns minutes right away.

We get Pride, I think you can safely put Estevez at the point with House and Pride in there for some early season OJT.
