Doesn't seem to be a good enough shooter to be a 4. I think a 5, play defense and rebound, including on the offensive end.

How did they know it was going to be a great day for visits today? Do they have like the super secret farmer's almanac at Rhody or something?
They need to let us in on that, our weathermen around here are awful.

Yes JD, him and Buru who is more of a 4.
Hopefully he will have a somewhat easy transition to Div. 1.

There are already plenty of good ones in the portal, we just need to snag one, plus a couple of shooters or scoring CG and maybe a PF or stretch 4.

I’m not a big fan of getting jucos. I don’t remember it working out to well. I have never seen him play so I can’t comment. Jumping up from juco to D-1 unless one of the top players doesn’t seem exciting. Anyone else else rioting him?

Speaking from a guy that has never seen him play either. Andre Berry was a nice player. Most jucos in my opinion don’t work out. I haven’t seen him play so I will look at highlights, but it is against weaker competition.

Earl Watson is another JUCO big that comes to mind for Rhody. Brown is taller, more athletic and has better JUCO stats than Watson so I'm hopeful about Brown's potential impact.

Re: '21 F/C Tyson Brown (Florida Southwestern JC ---> URI)
Have you looked at some of the top jucos in country over the last few years and see how they turned out. Alot of them produce who knows how Tyson will turn out in the end but one of kansas states best players Tomlin came from juco. Two of Missouri players this year came from juco. To just say he isn't good because of juco is laughable.RamStock wrote: ↑1 year agoSpeaking from a guy that has never seen him play either. Andre Berry was a nice player. Agree, but it is laughable to say he is good just because Archie signed him. He missed on everyone player he brought in last year. I said I wasn’t excited, but also said I have never seen him play. He might be great, but I will wait and see before we do what we do with every player that signs or transfers in saying they will be a star.sevegny7 wrote: ↑1 year agoHave you looked at some of the top jucos in country over the last few years and see how they turned out. Bryant Selebangue who recently entered the transfer portal on Tulsa played for Florida Southwestern during the 2021-2022 season. He’s a 6’9” forward, I know Tulsa wasn’t good at all but he still averaged 12.0 points on 62% FG, and 9.2 rebounds.

Weston in only his first season and coming off of injuries, gets a pass from me.
Rory, Hutch all true freshmen, too early to give up on them.
Foumena a freshman who RS, we don't know about him yet.
Bilau had injury issues that derailed last season, not Archie's fault.
Alex inexperienced and only played 3 games the previous 2 seasons.
For me, it is a wait and see on the development of some of these players.

Wasn’t Xavier Munford a JUCO. None of us, not even the coaching staff really knows how he or any of the recruits will be until they are actually here. But at least he can catch the ball…that’s an improvement and should translate. If he can average 8+ ppg and 6+ rpg next year that would be a big step in the right direction as long as we get a decent pg and some wing scorers.

At 6’9”, 200 lbs, (although he looks heavier in today’s pics) I’m concerned that he may get pushed around by a 230-240 pound big man. Does anyone know his current weight? Is the listed 200 lbs. accurate?

Re: '21 F/C Tyson Brown (Florida Southwestern JC ---> URI)
You complained about how bad this roster was all year, and Archie fills a big need by getting a strong, talented big man that is a beast of the boards and he's not going to be good because, according to you Jucos "don't work out". Which is a ridiculous statement. We have seen players like Berry, Mbang, Munford, Earl make an impact here,.. Even BIlau was one of our better players when he played last year..RamStock wrote: ↑1 year agoSpeaking from a guy that has never seen him play either. Andre Berry was a nice player. Jimmy Butler worked out. Jae Crowder worked out.. one of my favorite players growing up Stevie Francis definitely worked out.
You can find plenty of players that didn't work out, but it's a case-by-case situation, and getting a top 25 juco is a good thing! Today is a good day to be a Ram..

I never said he was going to be a bad player. I said that it doesn’t excite me, but everyone is different. I am looking for a point guard like Jayden Pierre or at least two good three point shooters. Those are the signings that are exciting to me. You have called players like Marial Mading and every player we brought in last year a Home Run which obviously wasn’t true. I don’t take the films against lower competition as end all, but think he looks to be built very well and can certainly dunk the ball. I think none us really know what kind of impact he is going to make and need to take a wait and see approach. I can’t stand last years team and hope Brown is a monster. I have too many visions of Alex, Rory, Hutchinson, Samb and on and on running through my head.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑1 year agoYou complained about how bad this roster was all year, and Archie fills a big need by getting a strong, talented big man that is a beast of the boards and he's not going to be good because, according to you Jucos "don't work out". Re: '21 F/C Tyson Brown (Florida Southwestern JC ---> URI)
Honestly, this is a lot different than this time last year.
This player, has been on our radar, for MONTHS. In fact, his fellow player at FL SW, Tracey, was the lower rated player on the team, when he chose to go elsewhere, I really though our chances of getting Brown took a nose dive. That's the honest truth.
Last year, we got players that we didn't even know we were looking at. "Stealth Recruiting". They didn't even have a page in the recruiting section, we had to make a page for them the same day they committed. That is lot different to this ONE commitment we have so far this time around.
I understand your PTSD. I was experiencing it too, throughout the season. Many of us were. But this is NOT the commitment to take a big, heaping, steaming dump on, just for the sake of it. This guy is automatically our best post player without even stepping on the court in uniform.

JCRU-This is a fair point you make in terms of us targeting him for a long period of time. I can buy that much more than just look at the video of the highlights which every player has. I think part of my issue with the juco might be more of wondering if Archie’s recruiting abilities will match his coaching strategies. I hope Brown comes in and is a force. They honestly need him to play big minutes with how bad our front court is. I’m hoping the next targets will be a PG and 3 point shooting.jcru wrote: ↑1 year ago Honestly, this is a lot different than this time last year.

This kid could be great but this team building is an abject disaster. There is no other way to describe it. Prep recruiting is awful. Portal getting killed both ways. Player retention is head scratching. This guy was the Dayton and Indiana coach with a name that has some cred and this is the best he can do? A team of JUCOs and incoming frosh that no one knows. Horrible.
