Re: ‘22 MD G/F Louis Hutchinson (URI Verbal Commit)
This feels like two years ago.
I wouldn't mind seeing him play either..He's a big athletic wing that seems to have a nice stroke. I guess Archie wanted to shorten the rotation, and Weston is the better player right now. Which I agree with.
As we said before the season Jersey. Most of us thought Lou would be a project and wouldn't get much run this year.

Yeah Stevey we did discuss this early on.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑1 year ago

In hindsight, maybe it would have been better for him if he did RS.

Yeah Hutch showed some flashes early on , I am a bit surprised he hasn’t gotten more of a chance but I guess trust Arch on this

Re: ‘22 MD G/F Louis Hutchinson (URI Verbal Commit)
Add me to the bit surprised camp. But, coach knows best based on where he wants to take the program.
Even though Hutch hasn’t played, I still think he has potential to be a solid rotational player eventually with the quality coaching from this staff. He has good length, good athleticism, good head on his shoulders. I hope he’s patient enough to put the work in and take the coaching for another year here - if that’s what the staff wants.
The staff saw something in him to sign him. Time will tell.

How bad could he be on D?

Re: ‘22 MD G/F Louis Hutchinson (URI Verbal Commit)
I was talking to his parents in the Caymans and even they pointed out that Lou "needed to play better" and "had to work on some things" - the kids with good heads on their shoulders usually come from great family situations. His parents and sister definitely fall into that camp. No excuses, just responsibilities and work.
I have hope he's going to stick it out here - because I agree with all the assessments above.
Between Lou and Alex, you're starting to see the kind of mental attitude Archie has been preaching all along.
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

You mean his parents weren't sitting behind the bench, screaming and swearing at the coach?Blue Man wrote: ↑1 year agoI was talking to his parents in the Caymans and even they pointed out that Lou "needed to play better" and "had to work on some things" - the kids with good heads on their shoulders usually come from great family situations. I am good with Arch being patient with freshman who come in and buy into his program. It gives Arch more time to mold them into the player he envisioned when he offered a scholly.
I hope Hutch has the patience to stick with the program at least one more year.

I'd still trade him for a multi year transfer ready to help us win now.Jdrums#3 wrote: ↑1 year agoAgreed, BM.Blue Man wrote: ↑1 year agoI was talking to his parents in the Caymans and even they pointed out that Lou "needed to play better" and "had to work on some things" - the kids with good heads on their shoulders usually come from great family situations. Hold on now, PRT.
If we can start negotiating trades, then that’s a whole new ball game.

Re: ‘22 MD G/F Louis Hutchinson (URI Verbal Commit)
I totally agree, 916. I love his attitude, too.
Archie has brought in some high character young men from what I have seen and read. Now, all Archie and the staff need to do is coach them up to be solid contributors on a winning team - with the appropriate work ethic from the players, like Hutch is exhibiting above, of course.
Sounds easy.

His video was misleading, I figured it was to motivate himself for next season in Kingston.

This one hits hard. I thought Lou was someone who could be a good contributor moving forward. He is a great kid and hard worker.
Can only hope he knows something that we do not, (recruiter over, etc) and that is the reason he is moving on.

Ha, I thought the same thing, although in hindsight it's clearly a scouting / hype video.Rhodymob05 wrote: ↑1 year ago His video was misleading, I figured it was to motivate himself for next season in Kingston.
Hutchinson has a lot of raw ability, and the length is tantalizing, but it didn't really translate into any consistent production last year. If you look at the per-40 for the scholarship players last year, he was last in points, third in personal fouls, eighth in steals, 10th in blocks, ninth in rebounding... The height just doesn't translate on the court. If he couldn't get minutes last year, hard to see things improving this coming year.

Re: ‘22 MD G/F Louis Hutchinson (URI Verbal Commit)
Too bad, good character young man with potential. Thought he would give it one more year here to see if he could realize his potential.
I would think he is being recruited over and doesn’t have much hope of cracking the rotation here next season.
I wonder where he lands ?
He could do well moving down a level, I think, and get more playing time right away.
Best of luck to him.

Re: ‘22 MD G/F Louis Hutchinson (URI Verbal Commit)
I'll be interested to see where Hutchinson lands and how his collegiate career goes. Ryan Brooks was a classic case of a guy that looks the part but couldn't play, is Lou the 3 version of that? Time will tell.
There's no questioning his work ethic but ultimately, he might only end up being an average player at a low major.

Re: ‘22 MD G/F Louis Hutchinson (URI Verbal Commit)
I know you're not specifically citing Hofstra as a moribund school but....
Hofstra actually looking pretty legit under Speedy Claxton.
2021-2022
at Arkansas 89-81 W
at Maryland 69-67 L
at Houston 83-75 OT L
at Iona 82-74 L
2022-2023
at Princeton 83-77 W
Iona 83-78 W
GWU 85-80 W
Charleston 85-81 W
Rutgers 88-86 W (NIT)
There are some bad losses not noted, and Claxton only has two years at Hofstra but he's 46-27 (29-7) and has a Hofstra squad solidly in the mix with mid major and high major schools. I would put Dusty May and Speedy well above Kim English at this point. Time will tell how this all ages but English is a distant 3rd behind those two IMO.

Definitely been a solid mid major (WOULD BE A NICE H&H NEXT YEAR ARCH) all jokes aside I completely forgot his prep school is 20 mins away from Hofstra, they’ve taken Estrada in and turned him into a star of a guardSTC wrote: ↑1 year ago I know you're not specifically citing Hofstra as a moribund school but....

I was thinking the same thing, 74.
Intelligent young man, high character, potential good rotation piece; he would fit in nicely at one of the Ivies.
