Hurley mentioned before the game that he was very familiar with the Mitchell twins having watched them play a lot at URI. Would have loved to hear his unfiltered extended thoughts. They have talent and have now shown they are coachable. What a waste.

I still remember talking with Dan about that Iona NIT game that was horribly officiated. Told him if anyone was getting kicked out of the Ryan Center, it was me before him. Wish he stayed, cause, this is where we would be.

Dan gave us a great ride. Turned the tide on 15 years of NCAA misery. Won games in back to back tourneys, didn't lose a conference game for a year, packed the Ryan in ways no one has. There aren't many things better than winning an NCAA game and then spending the next day in whatever random city you are in giving high fives to Rhody fans. Dan gave us that twice. Don't cry because he left smile because he was here.

They are really fun to watch , Hawkins can really fill it up when he gets going and Sanogo is as good a low post scorer as there is , hoping DH gets that Natty

To me it's their depth that sets them apart. They're bringing an active 7' guy with skill off the bench; plus a couple shooters and a defensive specialist, who can all handle the ball. The starters can all handle and shoot the ball. No weak spots, other than Jackson's outside shooting. But I have a feeling Gonzaga will hang with them and this game will go down to the wire.

The only thing that worries me is when they get pressured they don’t really have that true point guard type , Newton is more of a shooter ,

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
Dead serious if I could have any coach in the country I would take Dan. I don’t know if he’s the best Xs and Os coach in the country, but he’s pretty damn good - Gonzaga could not get a clean look tonight which felt very familiar and that end of the court counts too. But every other thing that goes into coaching - talent eval, talent development, culture building, leadership, etc., he is elite across the board.
Part of my joy in seeing him do this is definitely the validation I (and I know a lot of us here) feel because I was so sure this would eventually happen for him I’d have bet everything I have on it. And the other part of it obviously is the guy is just such a genuinely good dude I couldn’t be happier for a coach on a personal level even though I have always hated UConn. The real deal. Couldn’t be more deserving.

So happy for Dan. As crazy as this sounds, sometimes if I I have a setback in life, I go through some of those posts when people were calling for his head/saying he'll never be that guy and then contrasting that to the posts just several weeks later during that magical run.

One of my favorite memories in sports is that 2016-2017 team. Winning the A10 Championship, beating Creighton, coming super close to beating Oregon. It was a far cry from the empty-ish Ryan center early on. That 2014-2015 team too - beating ranked Nebraska and having post-season success, such a fun time in my life.
We can fault for "leaving town" but is it any different from say an engineering student who decides to get his PhD at MIT or UC Berkeley after graduating? Sure you can do it at URI, but the resources at another institution are more expansive and it's an easier road. (Obviously hopefully that changes). We should be proud that Dan was able to use his "education" and be 2 wins away from a Natty

Haven't read all of the posts here but, how freaking cool is it that he got to play his kid in the Sweet Sixteen and Elite 8? Not just get there and share it with your kid....but actually play him in the game.

Re: All things Dan Hurley/UCONN THREAD
Hurley was just interviewed at halftime of the Miami vs Texas game.
Took good questions from the entire panel including Charles Barkley.
He was calm, eloquent, intelligent. Barkley asked what changed from the slump that they encountered. He sad he spent too much time getting in the referees. He has since reduced that a lot and changed his behavior.
He talked about taking last years team and they recruited to address the opportunities for improvement.
Nice national exposure.

As a Boston/New England fan I’ve been lucky to have had a lot of my teams win championships. UConn is not my team. But I don’t know that I’ve ever been happier for an individual person to win something as I am tonight.
