I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I hope there’s a big loophole lol. URI needs guys eligible to play next season. Will it fly with the NCAA if players say they are depressed due to losing ?
Other potential mental health loopholes…
Dear NCAA, I request a transfer waiver because I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder due to having the uncontrollable urge to excessively shoot during games ?
Or, Dear NCAA, please grant me a waiver. I think I may be delusional because I hear voices during games ?

At least with the NBA, if you're claiming a mental health issue you need to provide proof that you're actively seeking treatment for it. I'd suspect (hope?) that the NCAA would work the same way - that if you're claiming to need to transfer because of a mental health issue, you need to actively be receiving counseling or therapy.

This is for 2nd time undergraduate transfers. Not that big of a deal as there aren’t too many of those.

I think this will actually help with some of the chaos. It’ll make it less likely a player who transfers will then transfer again. You’ll only need to rerecruit your non transfers every year instead of the entire team.

Not too hard though. Like finding a good lawyer. Just need to find a psychiatrist that can navigate the process.SGreenwell wrote: ↑1 year ago At least with the NBA, if you're claiming a mental health issue you need to provide proof that you're actively seeking treatment for it. If ever you were going to use that excuse, the time would be now, before the NCAA closes that window.
I bet Battle could claim that, with the right professional backing him up. Sounds like his coach was singling him out and messing with him personally.
Meanwhile start honing in on grad transfers and JUCOs, this roster needs bodies

It wouldn't surprise me if P5 schools had an in house sports psychologist. All of their players would then be "actively seeking help for mental health issues".
Didn't we have one for EC after his injury? or was that just rumor?

The problem is, with a player coming here, and then trying to use our paid psychiatrist, would that be considered coercion?
Or do they need to have that already in progress before they go to the new school?

As the NCAA always operates a player in this position it wants to transfer to North Carolina or Indiana will have a 95% better shot than wanting to utilize that tactic to transfer to Northeastern or GW

Can players still get a waiver for a multi-time transfer if there’s a coaching change? It wasn’t explicitly addressed here, but that would make sense to me.
How is it the kids fault if he transfers and then the coach bails on him

Yeah - That strikes me as a very legitimate reason for wanting to transfer, and ignoring the reality that a large component of a player picking a school is because of the coach or coaching staff.KingstonLane wrote: ↑1 year agoTouche. 78, I am wondering if Bilau can transfer under consideration #1 due to physical health ? He could argue he disagrees with local physicians course of treatment, maybe ? Or, wants to be closer to home with a family recommended doctor ?
I am not sure if I am interpreting #1 correctly so, I am posting for clarity on it to the KB board.

That said
Can we please keep him? Some struggle to recognize it, but he's a good player.
We have hardly ever had players 6'10 with his skillset. The dude is skilled, athletic, smart basketball player.
Retain Bilau!
I can almost talk myself into feeling that way with Tchikou
The guy has crazy athleticism for his size. We have literally never had anyone his size with that kind of athleticism and he was really starting to show us something late. Keep working with him and keep his ass in the weightroom and he could be a stud.
We can still retain both of them and add a guy from the portal to give us four total big guys and Rory who I hope we never see play the 5 again.
But of course if we get better players I'm all for it. I just kinda hope they're not all 6'7, 6'8. Yeah I know, if you're good you're good, but every team we've had in the past that used undersized bigs played somebody with legit size it's a total mismatch.
Ya want some dudes 6'10 and up and you want big guards that can defend.
Most of the teams in the sweet 16 right now got size.
I also recognize our bigs last year were all very soft and I'm not saying they'll magically become physical players.

There are reports on the George Mason forum that Senior Josh Oduro has indicated on his Instagram account that he is departing. Has the added Covid one year of eligibility left should he choose to stay in the college ranks. Likely just the first of the roster fallout with Coach Kim English departing the Patriots.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
Maybe that is another distinction to make on the master list, instead of just having 100 players listed, show which ones are likely going P6 and which ones we are still in the hunt for.
Doesn't make much sense to have a list with a ton of players on it, when we know 60% of them have been already been overrecruited by P6's. It's not really a list to drum up interest from outsiders, it's a list for us here to cut through the noise so the process of following this doesn't become ridiculous.

There’s been no news jcru as expected which happened last year we truely don’t know if we were going to get someone until they actually committed, Archie isn’t like David Cox where we know every time, for example five of the seven recruits we got last didn’t even know visited until they announcedjcru wrote: ↑1 year ago Maybe that is another distinction to make on the master list, instead of just having 100 players listed, show which ones are likely going P6 and which ones we are still in the hunt for.

Re: The Men's Basketball Transfer Carousel 2023-24
Well, you touched on something else that is concerning.
Last year, we had "stealth recruiting". No news, and then whammo, signed recruit. The problem with last year is the recruits we got, most of them weren't being recruited by anyone, they were so far under the radar that even our Conference rivals weren't recruiting them, nevermind larger programs. I am hoping that is not the norm going forward.
With the way things are evolving in the NCAA, and this now being Archie's second year, we are seeing something very different. URI involved with lots of players who are transferring who are involved with lots of school, all over the spectrum. We'll see what this produces.
