Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
Introductory press conferences and related events are always a bit weird and not that exciting after the initial news drop, but this looks awkward af
I don’t know if those specific rumors are true or not, but I am taking such satisfaction in having always disliked the guy and not trusting that universally beloved and praised nonsense. Give me the dudes that are less polished on the outside but show up in all the ways that matter every damn day.

Not sure if you watched his press conference but Coach Cooley is anything but polished. Georgetown administrtion is thirsty. If he doesn't hit the ground running he will be in for some tough times. That tough guy routine only works when you win.ace wrote: ↑1 year ago Introductory press conferences and related events are always a bit weird and not that exciting after the initial news drop, but this looks awkward af

PSU had a good recruiting class coming in including Shrewsberry's son, one of the top players in Pa.
Plus 4* top 70 recruit PF Carey Booth (6'9").

Exactly. Friar fans are losing their minds over Georgetown's "tampering" but we're supposed to believe that PC reached out to English on Monday. Blind hypocrisy at it's finest.Rhodymob05 wrote: ↑1 year ago Wouldnt PC have to have known some time ago that Cooley was about to hit the bricks? They moved in on English very quickly, as if they knew.

I say that not because of this season, but we just hired this guy, who has barely wet his beak and is already on other lists?? How do we start a culture with this happening every season?Rhody15 wrote: ↑1 year agoSchools aren’t going to hold this season against him.Rhodymob05 wrote: ↑1 year ago I don’t understand how our coach is on that list. Lol do you say “posting random twitshit?” do to the people who actually post fake, troll accounts believing they’re real? Don’t think so.
This guy is followed by Jeff Goodman, Rothstein, Zagoria, Borzello, and The Field of 68. Doubt all of them would follow a random nobody.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
I would have to think that Archie, when making the decision to take the URI job, knew that there would constantly be other jobs opening up yearly. He either has to prove himself again by bringing a mid-major like URI back into the spotlight, or he doesn't and a P5(6) school will just blindly hire him.
So did he come here for more than just the money, or not? Couldn't he have waited until a Penn St. came calling? I doubt that he's hurting for cash.

He is originally from PA and they can $$. Something to watch until he’s off the list, hopefully.Rhody15 wrote: ↑1 year agoIt’s irrelevant how long he’s been here.Rhodymob05 wrote: ↑1 year agoI say that not because of this season, but we just hired this guy, who has barely wet his beak and is already on other lists?? Yea I obviously wasn’t saying or inferring anything with that tweet, just posted because I saw it and think it’s relevant.RI_Bred wrote: ↑1 year ago I would have to think that Archie, when making the decision to take the URI job, knew that there would constantly be other jobs opening up yearly. Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
I wouldn't be surprised if they promote Adam Fisher (assoc. HC) to keep the momentum and was instrumental in recruiting. He is also a PSU alumnus and spent several successful years as an assistant at Miami.
Also maybe add Pat Kelsey and Chris Mack to the list of candidates.

Roger that I wasn't insinuating anything on you at all...it's fucking frustrating to see his name on any list - Jesus Christ the guy has been here a minute and done less than nothing so far on paper.Rhody15 wrote: ↑1 year agoYea I obviously wasn’t saying or inferring anything with that tweet, just posted because I saw it and think it’s relevant.RI_Bred wrote: ↑1 year ago I would have to think that Archie, when making the decision to take the URI job, knew that there would constantly be other jobs opening up yearly. Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
I still believe CBB is going to a GM type setup. The players are brought in by executives, and the coach deals with them. If the coach can't they get fired.

I scanned the Penn st board and a few folks mentioned the same. I did keep scrolling and found Archie’s name being thrown out there by a poster . Nothing of substance obviously at this point . Let’s see what happens in the next day or twoJersey77 wrote: ↑1 year ago I wouldn't be surprised if they promote Adam Fisher (assoc. HC) to keep the momentum and was instrumental in recruiting. Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
First of all, I don't think it will happen.
But if there was serious interest from them (which I doubt), I wouldn't be surprised if he listens.
It is a P5 school with $ and PSU is coming off one of their more successful seasons.
Also, Happy Valley isn't far from where he grew up.

It would be instantly more $ and instantly a better roster, assuming a lot of those kids stay (I have no idea what their current roster looks like)...Jersey77 wrote: ↑1 year agoFirst of all, I don't think it will happen.

Re: 2023 Coaching Carousel
I watched the Cooley press conference at Georgetown and contrasted it to the one at URI introducing Archie Miller. Compared to Miller, Cooley is certainly a more articulate speaker pressing all the right buttons - citing his humble beginnings, cosying up the media reps present, and stressing the desire to focus on players that have talent but also character, etc. - but he prolonged it to a point where you get the feeling he is just a great bull shitter.
The press conference held in a rather blah setting had some some enthusiasm, but contrasted poorly with the stronger and genuine enthusiasm that greeted Archie in the bright and open environment of URI's Welcome Center. You got an immediate sense of smugness and entitlement that surrounds Georgetown. Everything is better at Georgetown. This was reinforced by Cooley's off putting remarks that his daughter, a Georgetown student, did not want to return to RI, but preferred the DMV area and that reinforced his need to also change. I thought that was a a real slap in the face not only to PC fans but also all RI and was a totally unnecessary comment to make. I now question how bright Cooley actually is.

Here's a better, more realistic Penn State list from a better, more respected reporter. Only one of these three is on that 'other' list.
Note that the other guy has slightly less than 4,000 followers and only has a blue check because he paid for one.
Norlander has 80,000 followers.

Understand that every year the URI coach whomever it is, after a great season will be on every coaching opening list.
If the coach had a bad season then he will be on some coaching opening list
Just the facts of URI basketball
