Cmon man - the best 2 PGs we’ve ever had in the last 40 weren’t 6’2”.

He’s def in the 5’11” camp. Heady player, elite passer, QB on the floor type of PG. I guarantee a profile Archie likes a lot.

All under 6’2.
All played tremendous roles on NCAA tournaments teams.
Try again.

Tyson was one of a kind. Jarvis lost his starting position to El Jefe. Fatts never started on an NCAAT team. I'm not knocking them in anyway. They did contribute greatly to those teams. But we need a starting point guard.Rhody15 wrote: ↑1 year agoJarvis Garrett, Tyson Wheeler, and Fatts Russell.theblueram wrote: ↑1 year agoWe need a point guard who is legit 6'2" or taller. Re: General High School Recruiting Discussion/Comments 2022-23
The difference between 5'11" and 6'2" hardly seems worth picking nits about to me, as long as they can truly play the 1. Ultimately, I think the player's speed and skill are more important at those sizes, as well as wingspan. Houston starts two guys who are 6'1", for example. I think when you get to Tyrese Sullivan territory - listed as 5'8" - and below that you run into issues. Then every night, you're going up against guys at your position that are three to six inches taller, and the other four players on the court are probably eight inches or more taller.

Silk is about 6'0" and thin, but he was a tough SOB. Jiggy was also about 6"0". maybe even 5'11". but built like a truck.

Their height doesn't make that big a difference to me, as long as they can play.
Besides: Yuri, Loyer, and Fernandes are all 6'0" or less and pretty damn good.

I'm all with you. Outstanding players. We just need a starting point guard who can shoot the three and command the floor. Maybe size doesn't matter, but Jeff was a helluva point guard until DC moved him out.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑1 year agoI just mentioned Jiggy right above you^^^^.Jersey77 wrote: ↑1 year agoHow about Jiggy Williamson, one of our best ever PG.theblueram wrote: ↑1 year ago

I agree with you all and add, for me - if it was my decision - I would also consider the teams make up.
For example, if we are small at the 2 and 3 and there is a 5’11” ish point guard or a 6’2” point guard under consideration - and everything else is equal skill and athleticism wise - then I would lean towards the taller player.
Good stuff.

What about Bryce Cotton? Would we not want him bc he doesn’t meet the height requirement. I can 1,000,000 percent guarantee Archie is going to target PGs with high IQ and great ball skills (dribbling, passing, shooting). And I guarantee he doesn’t have a size or espn rating requirement.

Hahaha Fatts Russell was never starting over Jeff Dowtin, therefore we did not “sit” Fatts for Jeff.
Keep trying though!

Sign me up for a 4* 5'11" point guard. But a 2* or 3*? Then it becomes a wait and see what we got. I don't follow recruiting much anymore as it seems the last 5+ years have been wait and see prospects. We haven't signed anyone I've been excited about in a long time.

Seems like he would have 2 years
Did a short stint at St Joe’s then has been Juco last 2 seasons.
Wing player looks to be a plus shooter - 41% from 3.

Doesn't seem like a player that can help turn things around for us, maybe a role player.
Hopefully we can find much better fits.
Goes to the same school as the other big we offered Tyson Brown at Florida Southwestern College.
He is ranked #42 on Juco Top 100.
Maybe Archie gets both.

Beat me to it Jersey on the same school as the other recruit, but I think he would help, looking at next year we really only have one player who’s traditional position is at the 3 and that’s B West other than that you have Lou who looks like Archie is tryna mold him into a stretch 4, and no clue what’s up with Ant and possibly Dubsky, but we can’t trust freshman anymore imho, I’d be willing to give this kid a chanceJersey77 wrote: ↑1 year agoYawn, not overly excited about him.bigappleram wrote: ↑1 year ago Seems like he would have 2 years

Take for example Jersey, Jimmy Clark at Duquesne right now, only averaged 3.9 pts/game at VCU his first two years, went to JUCO for one year after being dismissed from the team transferred to Duquesne and is averaging 13 pts/game and is probably going to make all defensive team in the A-10

I like this player - a big guard that can shoot? Yeah, that is something we need.
There is no one like him on the roster now, so it would give Archie more lineup options.

With only 2 years left not sure he is the difference maker we need or that many of the fans here will be satisfied with. Yes he may be able to contribute but does he beat out Weston at wing. Don’t think this kid has the size to play stretch 4 in the A10. I am not against Juco kids because some transition well, just not sure he fits. I can be totally wrong, so we will see what happens. I know Blueram won’t jump up and down about him because he is a little under the radar.Dino611 wrote: ↑1 year agoBeat me to it Jersey on the same school as the other recruit, but I think he would help, looking at next year we really only have one player who’s traditional position is at the 3 and that’s B West other than that you have Lou who looks like Archie is tryna mold him into a stretch 4, and no clue what’s up with Ant and possibly Dubsky, but we can’t trust freshman anymore imho, I’d be willing to give this kid a chanceJersey77 wrote: ↑1 year agoYawn, not overly excited about him.bigappleram wrote: ↑1 year ago Seems like he would have 2 years

You are characterizing this kid as a stretch 4? Why, because we played small ball this year out of necessity?
This kid is a PG/SG, is he and Weston could play together.

At this point, I don't think Weston has done nearly enough to guarantee playing time next year. His PER is now lower than Thomas', and he's been disappearing the last few games. I think he's in as much risk of being recruited over as anyone else on the roster.Jersey77 wrote: ↑1 year agoWith only 2 years left not sure he is the difference maker we need or that many of the fans here will be satisfied with. It’s funny of all the newcomers most felt he had the most upside longterm. He is still only a freshman and was a consensus 4* top 75. The jury is still out for me on him. If he doesn’t pan out another big recruiting flop by our staff.SGreenwell wrote: ↑1 year agoAt this point, I don't think Weston has done nearly enough to guarantee playing time next year. Just off the top of my head and not knowing much about the player other than what is in the tweet…Billyboy78 wrote: ↑1 year agoAnd this is his 2nd year at his current school, yet he's listed as a sophomore.
He could be a good piece to the rotation puzzle. Stats indicate he can score, which is something we desperately need. The stats indicate he can dish out some assists and handle the ball, which is also something we desperately need. He has good height for a guard which can provide some matchup advantages and help us on D guarding the 3 line. In short, he seems to be able to have the potential to fill Carey’s role for now considering I have no idea who is returning and who isn’t besides Carey in the backcourt.
Also, as Jersey said, the staff could be looking to get a two’fer by grabbing the big on that Juco team.
Anyway, the staff must see potential for him to add value, especially him signing this early before portalpalooza ‘23 is in full swing.
Note: My post is not an endorsement of his ability or lack thereof. Neither is it an indication of level of excitement in the players potential impact at Rhody.

Looks like Tulsa has offered both Tracey and Tyson Brown. I think that's a good sign. If Tulsa thinks they can make an impact in the AAC then they definitely could in the A-10.
I dont think it's a stretch to say any of these juco's we are looking at would make our team better. I just wonder how long until we try and pull the trigger on any of them.
Looked at the film and the stats of all our prospects
I'm having a really hard time seeing how Buru Naivalurua isn't more coveted. That dude is freakish, dunking on everyone, super long arms, crazy vertical, physical, has a nice stroke from the mid-range and from three. Shoots 63.7% from the field, 44% from three, 70% from the foul line, 10.5 rebounds a game, 43 blocks on the year, 31 steals.
All that with three years left? Wouldn't be sad if we took him now.

Re: General High School Recruiting Discussion/Comments 2022-23
I know nothing about Buru other than what I watch on film. What do we know about his character? What do we know about his academics? I'm not suggesting that's why he isn't coveted, just wondering since we've just dealt with one player with an attitude and another with academic problems.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑1 year ago Looks like Tulsa has offered both Tracey and Tyson Brown.

Yeah I know forgot about that, was talking about the sense of going out and offering people schollies for next year in the middle of the season

Here's a story on him from a year ago. Seems like a nice fella to me! Glad Australia let go of their draconian covid rules so he can finally pursue his dreams.
He and his family definitely don't seem like the Freeman's...

Buru does seem like a special young man, aside from all his basketball skills that he demonstrated on the court this season.
I will be excited if we are able to land him.

Dangerous path he's taking. Lot of fringe players being tossed about. Hope he's right about some of these.
