Eh, they only needed to win 2 of these three roadies. Just didn't expect that one to be the L. Lose one of the next two, will have to reassess. Otherwise, still on target.

Actually at this point if we can get a 9th seed and not play Tuesday, I will be surprised and satisfied.Rhody15 wrote: ↑1 year agoStop.NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑1 year ago Eh, they only needed to win 2 of these three roadies. For a reality check, we will most likely finish 10-15.

Not wrong - my mad science did say 2 out of 3 on the road. Just didn't expect the L to be St Joes. Would be very on brand to go in and shock everyone (including ourselves) and win in St Louis.NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑1 year agoI shan't be stopped. Monday Feb 6 StandingsBlue Man wrote: ↑1 year ago OK. Yes, I'm drinking the koolaid. I've been drinking the Archie Cola since mid-Feb. BUT. Watching St Louis/Bonnies last night when they displayed the standings (I really hadn't bothered paying attention all year) - a double bye/Friday start is legitimately not out of the question for Rhody.
Saint Louis 7-1 -- 15-6
VCU 7-2 .5 16-6
Dayton 6-3 1.5 14-8
Fordham 5-3 2 17-4
George Washington 5-3 2 11-10

Richmond 4-5 3.5 11-11
Rhode Island 4-5 3.5 8-13
Saint Joseph's 3-5 4 9-11
Davidson 3-6 4.5 10-11
La Salle 2-6 5 8-13
Loyola Chicago 1-7 6 7-13
I do not think we will overtake St Louis, VCU, or Dayton. That's not happening. But the 4th seed? The seed we are currently 1.5 games out of? That Fordham and GW currently are tied for? Why not us?
First off - we play both Fordham and GW down the stretch. Beat either or both of those teams (not out of the question), and you've pulled within a game or even of them. We also play George Mason and UMass, who we are a 1/2 game behind and tied with, also fighting for that 4th spot. All 4 of those games are incredibly winnable.
We play @ Joes, @ Loyola, and home vs Davidson. Those 3 are winnable as well.
Say you go 5-2 in those winnable games - not unreasonable. You somehow take VCU at home and drop to StL on the road. 6-3 down the stretch here isn't impossible, and we'd be 10-8.
Fordham and GW going 4-6 isn't an impossibility. Bonnies going 4-5 isn't an impossibility. GM going 5-5? Dukes, UMass, Richmond going 5-4?
These are incredibly possible outcomes in what is the worst A-10 top to bottom that I can remember.
URI doing anything between 2-7 and 7-2 down the stretch shouldn't shock anyone based on what we've seen. Our backcourt when clicking is the best in the A-10 and I stand by that. Our frontcourt is incredibly weak but we have a coach who can play smallball and recognizes when to ride a hot lineup and how to coach around our deficiencies.
I'm drinking koolaid. I'm believing in Archie. CHOO CHOO ALL ABOARD.

Re: A-10 Tourney 4th Seed
I listed the remaining games for the teams with above .500 A10 records to date as the current top competitors for the Top 4 Spots. Obviously that could change as there were considerable changes just in the past week in the standings.
I only included URI because URI is the Subject of this particular thread and it’s NCAA or Bust.
I added ** for the opponents on the remaining scheduled that have above .500 A10 records at this time.
The A10 Schedules the 4 opponents that each A10 team plays twice with consideration for where teams finished the previous year. So Top A10 finishers will get consideration to play other Too finishers 2 times. Bottom A10 finishers will get consideration to play other Bottom finishers 2 times. So in the remaining schedules it’s interesting to see how this plays out in 2022-23.
St Bonaventure does not play SLU, VCU or Dayton the remaining games. A game at Fordham Feb 15 could be big in positioning for the Top 4 seeds.
A10 Pairings showing who each team plays twice in 2022-2023.

Re: A-10 Tourney 4th Seed
I only provided the Top 5 current leading candidates for the Top 4 spots that have above .500 A10 records. Some teams might move into the candidacy for Top 4 in the week or weeks to come.
I included the remaining games for each of the 5 teams currently over .500 to help show the degree of difficulty for each team.
I included URI only because this thread started by BlueMan was centered around URI chances to make the Top 4. No other reason than that.

Good work Ramster...shocker you included Rhody on a Rhody fan message board. Ignoring the posting police....Dayton really has a tough road with 5 of 7 games on the road; compare that to VCU who has 5 of 7 at home. Despite their talented roster Dayton could slip further and cause their twitter fan base to erect a billboard about Anthony Grant.

Yeah, the posting policeman awake on Monday morning
Sorry but I found I had an error on Dayton and VCU
VCU has 4 Home games. Good for VCU they have Dayton, Fordham, Richmond and St Louis at home. Weaker URI, St Joes and GW on road. Favorable schedule to possibly even win out.
Dayton has 3 home games. Tough road games at VCU and St Louis the last game of the season

What will really surprise me is if the Bonnies make the 4th seed currently 7-4.
Schmidt replaced the entire roster which included 5 starters from last season's preseason favorites.

Bonnie’s already have the 4th seed. It’s theirs to lose.
Bonnie’s have only 1 game remaining against A10 teams with above .500 record and that’s AT Fordham. That’s a huge game for both teams. No games remaining with Dayton, VCU or St Louis.
Bonnie’s are positioned to potentially finish even higher than 4th.
St Bonaventure (7-4) with 7 remaining games:
Feb 8 LaSalle
Feb 11 AT Duquesne
Feb 15 AT Fordham **
Feb 19 George Washington
Feb 22 AT Davidson
Feb 26 St Joseph’s

Winning the last 3 games at VCU, at Richmond, and Dayton.
4 of their last 7 games are on the road, but that hasn't seemed to bother them as of late.

Re: A-10 Tourney 4th Seed
Thanks Ramster for all the legwork.
After seeing what happened this weekend - UMass, Fordham, Joes, Mason, GW, Dayton - all losing games they were favored, the whole league is as inconsistent as we are. ANYTHING can happen in the final 8 games. We could go 2-6, 6-2, over .500, under .500, undefeated, or winless. Saying "that can't happen" in the A10 this year isn't realistic. It's all on the table.
We currently are 2.5 out with 8 to play. As the math has shown - it's certainly not likely. But in my miracle scenario, Rhody needs to take 2/3 on this road trip. Beat St Louis and this is a conspiracy theory that still has legs, lose tomorrow and we can lock this thread.

Reef, any suggestions on a replacement? I wonder what the Dayton board thinks? Oooph…it must be wild over there currently.
I think Jersey posted the link to their board for us. I may have to take a stroll over later and check things out.
If Dayton does decide to make a move (I don’t know his contract status but my thinking at this time is they will give him at least one more year), I hope they follow the route we and UMASS took and get an Archie/Frank Martin type coming out of the P5, if any do become available make sense.
I am having a brain fart and can’t think of any young coaches that would be a good fit. Others here must know; maybe they will come along and add some names.

That makes zero sense.
Pretty weird to have that strong of feelings for a guy to lose his job when he hasn’t been controversial or cause any trouble.

Yea dude let’s just skip over the fact he had a 1 seed and final four caliber team in 2020.
All of Richmond was calling for Mooneys head these last few years.
And what’d he do? Win the A10 and beat a 4 seed with an All American.

There’s a difference between saying you wouldn’t be surprised if he’s fired and saying you’d “love” for him to get fired.reef wrote: ↑1 year agoYeah especially with all their expectations they were ranked preseason definitely wouldn’t be surprised if he gets cannedtheblueram wrote: ↑1 year agoNCAA or Bust. Pretty frustrated Message Board at Dayton right now.Rhody15 wrote: ↑1 year agotheblueram wrote: ↑1 year agoNCAA or Bust. Dayton hasn't been to the tournament since 2017. Time to fire the coach.
Yea dude let’s just skip over the fact he had a 1 seed and final four caliber team in 2029.

Grant also received the national honor of Naismith Men's COY in 2020.Rhody15 wrote: ↑1 year agotheblueram wrote: ↑1 year agoNCAA or Bust. Dayton hasn't been to the tournament since 2017. Time to fire the coach.

All of Richmond was calling for Mooneys head these last few years.
And what’d he do? Win the A10 and beat a 4 seed with an All American.

Grant should be fine even with this year slippage, Dayton is not exactly like IU, Kentucky types where the bar is very very high, no?

Re: A-10 Tourney 4th Seed
UD should reasonably expect a tourney appearance every 2-3 years and haven’t been in 6. Haven’t won a game in the tourney in 8 years. Now in between that time was the 2020 Covid season. But that still would be only 1 tourney in Grants tenure and that justifiably should be making his seat warm. He won’t get canned this year but pending how they finish his seat could be warm next year.

Re: A-10 Tourney 4th Seed
The Fordham at VCU game on the 18th should be interesting - especially if both are at 4 losses going in to the game.

Re: A-10 Tourney 4th Seed
Duquesne At St Louis also on the 18th is also a big game. Both fighting for that 4th bye or better
Who would have guessed Fordham and Duquesne would be in the fight for the Top 4 as late in the season as February 18?

Re: A-10 Tourney 4th Seed
This is not another senior moment , but, when I predicted that Fordham would likely be middle of the pack and with an outside chance at making the 4 seed, I had few believers and some would say that I was "mocked" on this board.
Then again, I predicted that Rhody would win yesterday.

Well done, McRam.
Myself, I didn’t think any better than bottom half for both at best.
