Fordham has a good team. Nice comeback from the Rams to stay undefeated in 7. Shows their toughness and mentality of never giving up.

Sucks that there's no broadcast, but that's unavoidable with rain considering there's no cover lol. 2-1 Rhody currently. This one is gonna be a battle.

Jesus, this game seems absolutely WILD just from the box score. It's now 5-3 with about five minutes left, after URI and Albany trade goals in a 16-second span.

5-3 for the final score. Looked like a WILD game from the stats I’ve seen! 8 games unbeaten, this is really impressive.

Re: Men's Soccer 2022 [4-0-4]
Thoughts on the game tonight:
- Tough loss, expected after playing with 10 men for a half.
- Dayton is really good and you can see why they’re ranked.
- URI could’ve tied it if some of their shots were in the air and not directly at the goalie. They didn’t look terrible with 10 men, at all.
- First loss of the season. Not a big deal!

The NCAA hasn't updated their RPI page, but according to this site we have an RPI of 30. With 23 auto bids and 25 at-large, we definitely seem to be in the conversation for a spot

Wait what the heck happened in the last minute?
I saw 2-2 on a URI own goal than Rhody scored with like 2 seconds left in the game? Tough to follow via stats only

Re: Men's Soccer 2022 [4-1-4]
From GoRhody….
How it Happened
A wild ending in a driving rain storm saw Rhode Island pull out a stunning 3-2 win over defending Atlantic 10 champion Saint Louis Wednesday night.
After leading for almost the entire match, the Rams appeared to be heading for a disappointing tie when an own goal made the score 2-2 with 23 seconds remaining. However, Patrick Gryczewaski made a last second run and fired a shot on net at a tough angle. His shot went off the post and into the net with 10 seconds to go, providing the winning margin.
The Rams struck first in the 10th minute when Isak Oystese found the back of the net off an assist from Patrick Agyemang. On URI's third shot on goal, Oystese slipped the ball into the lower right corner past Saint Louis keeper Carlos Tofern for the 1-0 lead.
Agyemang padded the lead exactly 20 minutes into the match. Edvin Akselsen made a long run with the ball down the flank before sending a cross in to Agyemang, who one-timed the pass for the goal.
The Billikens had a chance to cut into the deficit just before halftime when they were awarded a penalty kick. However, Alberto Suarez missed badly, and URI took the two-goal lead into the break.
Saint Louis came out firing in the second half. John Klein put a shot off the crossbar just 54 seconds into the period. Max Hinke came up with a save in the 57th minute on a shot by Alex Shterenberg. The Billikens finally broke through in the 59th minute when CJ Coppola flicked a pass from Lane Warrington with his heel and the ball just crossed the goal line to make the score 2-1.
The score remained that way until the crazy final minute of the match.
Inside the Box Score
The match was Rhode Island's first in 11 days.
With the victory, URI snapped a five-match unbeaten streak for Saint Louis. The Billikens had been 4-0-1 over their last five.
With a goal and an assist, Patrick Agyemang now has a team-high 10 points this season (4 goals, 2 assists).
Edvin Akselsen picked up his team-leading fourth assist. He also had an assist the last time Rhody beat Saint Louis, which happened on Oct. 3, 2018.
All three of Patrick Gryczewski's goals this season have proven to be game winners for URI.
Rhody keeper Max Hinke had eight saves on the night. He has played all 900 minutes of the season in net for the Rams.
Action was chippy at times, with the two sides combining for 36 fouls, 20 of which were called on Saint Louis.
There were seven yellow cards issued in the game. Saint Louis was booked four times, Rhode Island three.
URI's players wore pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness.

The Rams are back in action Saturday when they head to Philadelphia to take on La Salle for a 7 p.m. game match.

Re: Men's Soccer 2022 [4-1-4]
That was THE most insane ending to a soccer match I’ve ever witnessed. It rained steady for most of the match and picked up with about minute to go. The own goal with 23 seconds to go to tie it up was a heartbreaker & the SLU sideline was going nuts.
The rain suddenly kicked into a straight DOWNPOUR and Rhody took it straight back into SLU territory and Gryczewski somehow someway found the net just off the inside post with 10 seconds to go. It was surreal. Everyone in the press tent was slackjawed and the rain started coming down even harder. Coach Elliot’s face looking back at the SLU side was priceless. What an absolute batshit crazy ending.

Our RPI has moved up to #26
http://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com ... sland.html
It's critical that we don't lose our next two and the last game of the season, three teams that are pretty much cupcakes according to the RPI. Take care of those three games and hope that the results from the middle three games keep your RPI in the hunt for an at large going into the conference tournament

Ever since they expanded to 32 teams, I've been expecting the World Cup to need a coin flip to determine who advances to the knockout round.ramster wrote: ↑1 year ago

When it was 24, they took the top 4 of the 6 third place teams.
Now it's only the top 2 in each group.
So far there haven't been any ties for 2nd and 3rd.
But with the number of matches that end in a draw...
Next time, there are 48 teams, likely with groups of 3.
Who knows what will happen then?
This format would obviously make it impossible for all teams in a group to play their last match simultaneously.
Regardless, I am very pleased that the NCAA allows draws after 90' now.

Re: Men's Soccer 2022 (5-1-5, 1-1-2 A-10)
We started receiving votes in the last United Soccer Coaches poll that counts games through Sunday. We're tied for 35th with 2 points in the poll. Dayton is 22nd and Duquesne is 25th. Official NCAA RPI is now out counting games through the same time period and that has us 37th with the 2nd best RPI in the conference behind 27th Saint Louis.
Eight teams make the conference tournament and despite the good news above we wouldn't actually make the A10 tournament if the season ended today since we're tied for 10th place, one point behind VCU, Fordham, and Saint Joseph's for the last conference tournament spot with four conference matches left. Wednesday night we play at VCU, which could be a big one for conference tournament placement. Also a week from tomorrow we're at Loyola who we're tied with in points, thought they've played one more conference game than us

Re: Men's Soccer 2022 (6-1-5, 2-1-2 A-10)
what do I know, but how can a soccer rpi even come close???
They've played 12 games, and a typical score is 1-1...
they have 1 loss, have beaten or tied (umm they have 1 loss) many top ranked teams (all but 1, see what I did there?)
if they're 2nd in a-10s and make the final, they oughtta get a bid
now, they might get screwed...again
so they probably want to win the tourney
not sure how a 1-loss team that's played the schedule they have isn't better than #50
but what do I know?
go win the tourney, boys

Re: Men's Soccer 2022 (6-1-5, 2-1-2 A-10)
RPI is what it is, regardless of the sport - it's more of a "brute force" metric, vs. something that has a lot of predictive value. I don't know what kind of analytical systems exist for college soccer, but I suspect that if URI is being "dinged" for something, it's the fact that they have a good amount of ties, only a +7 goal differential, and their opponent win percentage is under .500. (According to this website, 75-80-53.)rhodyrudder wrote: ↑1 year ago what do I know, but how can a soccer rpi even come close???

We've seen this happen with the basketball team too - In most sports, it's tough to keep winning games by one goal or less than 5 points, and eventually you lose a couple of those games. I'd feel more confident about this team, and they'd probably pick up some more poll votes, if they start pasting teams.

0-0 Rhody/VCU. Not a great game at all from URI against a really bad VCU team. Make that 6 ties, and honestly at least 4 of them they really should've closed out wins in. Onto the next!

0-0 draw (sigh) tonight at VCU. Big game at Loyola this weekend.
Our RPI (now 60) feels about right. The draws against UMass Lowell at home and at Lasalle hurt as they are both 165+ in RPI. Draws vs those teams are essentially losses.

It seems like Rhody is hard to beat, but at the same time inconsistent in the attack. Too many wasted balls, especially off of corners.HobbyBurley wrote: ↑1 year ago 0-0 draw (sigh) tonight at VCU. Big game at Loyola this weekend.

URI lost at VCU in 2013 and 2017. So we are 0-2 overall playing at VCU until getting a tie tonight.RhodyRams916 wrote: ↑1 year ago 0-0 Rhody/VCU. VCU was picked 3rd preseason in the A10, the only team other than SLU to get a first place vote.
To get a tie at VCU is good, not a win but a good result on the road.

It is a "good road result". I was just pointing out that VCU still has 1 win this entire season. I feel like they were beatable.ramster wrote: ↑1 year agoURI lost at VCU in 2013 and 2017.
