Chris DiSano to Assume Rams Radio Color Role
Succeeding legendary Don Kaull who is retiring. Link is here, under the 'Personal News' section.
ATP Edit - Changed focus of title. Don's a low-key excellent human, after all.

Re: Chris DiSano to Assume Rams Radio Color Role
Sorry to see the Legend Don Kaull retiring but very ready for the Chris DiSano era to begin. Chris is going to be excellent in that role. Really looking forward to futzing around with the timing on the TV to get it synced up with the radio broadcast!

Re: Chris DiSano to Assume Rams Radio Color Role
Agreed. We need to recognize that Stone isn't just a student broadcaster anymore. He's a professional, and a very good one. You're doing him (and all of us watching) a great disservice if you continue to make him shoulder the load and drag others along during our broadcasts.
Don is a legend, retirement is well earned!
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

Favorite Don moment...
Don fighting make tears, talking about Dan Hurley and all the players and what we all had to go through since 99 after we beat VCU in the 2017 A-10 championship

Whenever I attended road games, I would always try and say hello to Don. He was always gracious and willing to give me a quick 'state of affairs'. Just a class gentleman and true ambassador of URI. Thank you Don and enjoy retirement.

Re: Chris DiSano to Assume Rams Radio Color Role
I traveled a lot in my job and I would schedule my travel around my URI Basketball (and Football) schedule whenever possible. I agree that Don was always friendly and gracious. Don was also honest and candid about the URI basketball performance. He wouldn't mince words.
I remember the attached article because I was also at the URI @ UMASS Game to end the season in 2020. It was too bad that the season ended like it did with the A10 Tournament being cancelled. Don and his wife both contracted Covid during that end of Basketball season traveling. It's too bad that Don couldn't have retired under different circumstances such as when Dan Hurley took the URI Rams to back to back NCAA Tournaments. Instead he retires following 4 years of David Cox with a team that progressively got worse each year culminating with his firing last March. I hope Don can be a special guest during the upcoming season on post game shows much like Chris Disano contributed his thoughts with Steve and Don during the URI post game shows - if Don wants to of course. Love reading about Don and his family in this article and how close they are not just in a family way but in a geographical way as well in Portsmouth. Great guy with a great family.

Re: Chris DiSano to Assume Rams Radio Color Role
Looking forward to a fresh face and voice on the color side of the Rhody hoops radio. Loved Don’s full body of work, going all the way back to RI State Championship Basketball game Rogers against East Providence…….

Re: Chris DiSano to Assume Rams Radio Color Role
The greatest thanks to Don Kaull for his many years service to URI and best wishes for a wonderful retirement.
The future now belongs to Chris DiSano, an excellent choice for the broadcast color job. DiSano has a terrific understanding of college basketball and brings lots of interesting insight into how the game is being played. DiSano also has great presence and voice projection that makes his commentary so appealing. It doesn't hurt that he also has a beautiful family supporting him. The guy is a gem and destined for a higher calling on the national stage.

Re: Chris DiSano to Assume Rams Radio Color Role
I'm sure we'll see Don at the games. He's a great guy. Last time I talked to him, he said he was probably retiring but might work a home game or two. He'll still be a big supporter of the program. He's been a Rhody guy for almost 60 years. He has some great stories too. Great historian. He played against Penders for 3 years when Penders played at UConn. They both graduated in '67. And he's got a really funny story that he heard about Frank Keaney and jock rash. Has anybody heard that story? Welcome to Chris. Look forward to many years of his broadcasts.

Re: Chris DiSano to Assume Rams Radio Color Role
I saw Don in February at the Ryan Center when attendance was really struggling……..actual, physical attendance that is.
Not to be confused with the announced figures of 4,000 or more.
Students were coming to the Ryan Center to study in February because it was quieter than the Library.
So have to hand it to Don and other loyal URI fans who still showed up when things were at Jim Baron level bleakness.
