Re: Alex Tchikou , (Alabama >>>URI)
Rivals had him ranked #36.
RS in 20-21, only played 3 games in 21-22 (Achilles injury)
Nice size, 6'11" 230lbs.
Should have 4 years eligibility

I assume this makes the roster the biggest in Rhody history? Massive size.

I'm guessing because of that injury, he has 4 years of eligibility?

Welcome to Rhode Island University!
Achilles injuries can be devastating, hopefully he is able to get back to the level that made him so highly ranked prior to the injury. Definitely worth a chance if you’re Archie and URI.

It appears we may be turning into a destination for many foreign players....some of whom from France but with African heritage.....a lot of our Women players have the same background.
I hope Amadou from the women's team is giving an assist.

"As a high school prospect, he had the Gaels (St. Mary's) in his final eight. The highly coveted big man has been one of the most sought-after prospects in the transfer portal this offseason. Tchikou has been contacted by Florida State, Xavier, USC, Washington, Arizona State, Georgetown, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Cal, Ole Miss, Memphis, UCSB, Tennessee State, and Georgia Tech, among others, according to Travis Branham of 247sports."

Tchikou, who reclassed to 2020 from 2021, chose the Crimson Tide over Oregon, Saint Mary’s, St. John’s, Arizona, USC, Florida State, Illinois and Mississippi State. He is the No. 16-ranked center in 2020, per 247Sports.com.

Added in the profile. By my count, Tchikou had 32 offers coming out of high school, which might be a record for anyone who ended up at URI eventually. Also, 247 Sports has a small write-up on his transfer:

Another Christmas morning surprise! Wooooohooooooo!
Stealth staff! This staff operates like the CIA. Oops, better not say that, KB might be monitored.
Excellent size. Man, our defense is going to be frustrating to play against.

Now I'm confused. He actually hurt his achilles before the '20-'21 season and missed the whole season. In the '21-'22 season he only played 3 games, all in November. I wonder why he didn't play after that? I thought he got hurt in that season, but that's not the case.

HArd to keep count but the roster is packed with guys that have a ton of potential.
URI has to be scary for the rest of the A10 given the turnover, the pedigree of the newbs and the fact Archie Miller is calling the shots.

Hard to find much info out there, but it looks like he was suspended for a couple games to start the season, and then some comments from Oats saying he was still working his way back in to shape after the injury. Could be he just wasn't ready.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑2 years ago Now I'm confused. He actually hurt his achilles before the '20-'21 season and missed the whole season. Personally I actually love he doesn’t know how to say our name. Our brand is in the toilet because of the previous coach. But despite that our staff is going and getting some of the best talent we’ve ever seen.
Just shows what these guys are capable of.
If you say you’re a Rhody fan, I know you are my brother. For you have suffered as I have suffered.

Re: '20 France PF - Alex Tchikou (Alabama ---> URI)
Let’s go!!!!!!!!
6’11
Has a handle
Has a midrange
Can hit the 3
Can play and defend multiple positions
One word comes to mind when looking at this kid. Versatility!!!
It’s hilarious that we may have landed the kid with the most upside on the team at the end of June. Some on here said all the impactful recruits have committed… Ya right…
I love Archie. I love KJ. I love this program. Go, Rhody!!!!

This looks like a great pickup! Love all the years of eligibility he has left to get back in the form he was recruited at prior to his injury. This roster is built for the next years with some growing pains this year, but getting all these players who are coming off injuries or little experience playing time will make them very good come 2023-24

Re: '20 France PF - Alex Tchikou (Alabama ---> URI)
RamStock, I think our defense will be ahead of our offense for 1/2 to 2/3’s of the season and it will be very frustrating for offenses to play against with all the length and hunger for playing time. I think the defense will keep us in most games. If or when the offense comes around, we may be a very tough out at the A10 Tourney for the top 3-4 seeds.
It should be a real fun season watching this team and coaching staff come together. It’s already been fun for me just watching the recruiting. I’ll be hyper like a kid on sugar tablets leading up to Christmas morning by the time the games start.

Re: '20 France PF - Alex Tchikou (Alabama ---> URI)
Not to speak for Stevey, but I read his last comment above as pertaining to impactful-ness of the recruit rather than timing.
That said, I believe you are on the right track, Ramster. I believe Archie and the staff will continue recruiting and signing (as defections happen - which I have no special insight on) because I think, with all the potential transfers every year, all the HS/Prep talent and foreign talent, recruiting has become a 12 month endeavor - subject to NCAA rules, of course.
Great thread! How many months until pre-season practices start up - is it 4 ? Yikes. Tough stretch.

So how many of our recruits are coming off major injuries? Seems like a large percentage.
Keeping things in perspective...
Hurley (12-18):
Y1 8-21 (T14th), Y2 14-18 (10th), Y3 23-10 (T2nd, NIT), Y4 17-15 (7th), Y5 25-10 (T3rd, NCAA), Y6 26-8 (1st, NCAA).
Miller (22-?):
Y1 9-22 (14th), Y2 12-20 (T10th).

Re: '20 France PF - Alex Tchikou (Alabama ---> URI)
I actually think the exact opposite. It seems like Archie wants to play an uptempo offense that should be fairly easy for our players to execute, but if he sticks with the pack line defense we might see the team struggle executing that properly out of the gateJdrums#3 wrote: ↑2 years ago RamStock, I think our defense will be ahead of our offense for 1/2 to 2/3’s of the season and it will be very frustrating for offenses to play against with all the length and hunger for playing time. November of '20. He played in 3 games in November of '21. I'm trying to find out why he didn't play any more after that for the rest of the season. Was that related to the achilles injury?. Was he not looking right and Oats decided to keep him out and redshirt for the rest of the season? I mean, hi didn't even get into any games that were blowouts. Not even for a minute. Weird. For the tourney game, he wasn't even dressed.

I'm maybe a little concerned about the injuries. But injuries heal. As long as these guys aren't 'injury prone'. I believe summer session 2 starts tomorrow. I'd expect the entire roster to be here now. I'm interested to see if all the players are practicing.theblueram wrote: ↑2 years agoI like it, but still question marks. Interesting and good point. I didn’t consider intricacies of the defense fully. From my experience, we usually focused early on the defense more and picked up it up quicker. But that was prep vs college level. Also, don’t underestimate a fast break offense as they can look simple but be intricate as to when the initial break isn’t there and you get to trailers and transitioning into a set. All that said though, you may very well be right.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑2 years agoI actually think the exact opposite. Good point. Some injuries worry me more than others - like Achilles tears and severe knee injuries. I am not as concerned about recovery as I used to be due to advances in med science. Although, there are always exceptions.theblueram wrote: ↑2 years agoI like it, but still question marks. Great players he's signing but injuries are affecting my perception.
The other aspect I worry some about is the mental part. Is there any lingering fear doubt in going balls to the wall when cleared for full action. I struggled with it myself for a time after a severe injury in my young playing days.
All that said, I trust Arch and staff’s evaluation methods so I have confidence it all works out well…but I’ll keep my fingers crossed just in case.
