Rumored, but yes. He was on Sean Miller's staff in Arizona before coming to URI, so it's believed that Archie got a positive recommendation from his brother on retaining him.

Re: Roster 2022-23
Having a team this empty in this day and age with transfers/Covid year is almost a blessing.
Can offer up immediate playing time. At least 3 starting spots open.
That’s tough to find at the A10 level for players looking to shine in their final year.

Re: Roster 2022-23
I'd say 5 starting spots are open. None of these 4 remaining players were starters this year on an 11th place A10 Team.
800+ Players in the Portal available now (and counting) plus Freshmen and JUCO signing possibilities including some who might be available due to 44 D1 Coaching Changes.
This will be Archie Miller's team from the start. Texas Tech had 6 of their 7 top minutes players were Transfers in this year. Transfers are a blessing for rebuilding and can also be a curse. Archie should do great in this recruiting environment.

Re: Roster 2022-23
I'd like to see a good mixture of players coming in...2 or 3 grad transfers, 2 or 3 players with 3 years eligibility left and the rest somewhere in between....balancing out the classes. Or, I'll take any good players regardless of class. LOL

I doubt he’ll fill more than 7 of the spots. He’ll leave a couple for mid season transfers.

Re: Roster 2022-23
Look at Texas Tech. Of their 10 leading scorers, 7 are transfers. 6 of those transfers were in their first year there. Santos-Silva was the only transfer in his second year there.
Goes to show you can easily reload your roster.
Conversely we have seen how you can easily lose main pieces to your roster as well like Tyrese & Toppin.

PC wasn't Elite 8, they were Sweet 16.
Also, yes you can hurry the process through the portal, but that doesn't mean success will happen overnight.
We aren't a top P6 school like TT where the best transfers will just be drawn to us.
Again be patient, it will take time but I have confidence in Archie that it will happen.

One thing is for sure. Carey ain't leaving.
Right now, he's thinking, I'm gonna get me a real coach, with a real system, with real expectations, and I'm going to parlay this into some real playin time, biotches

Re: Roster 2022-23
I am really high on Carey's potential. He was the only player who showed improvement last year from the previous. He had to do it on his own because no one else improved under Cox. Carey's shooting percentage improved, has passing improved, and he rebounded well. He cut down his turnovers too although admittedly he still turned it over too much. I am very optimistic under Miller he could be very good, he certainly has all the physical tools.

Re: Roster 2022-23
Good take 79. I saw improvement and potential last year too. I’m not all in on him though (not that you are either). I’m cautiously optimistic on the player and if Archie’s coaching can have a big impact on Carey’s game including his basketball IQ. I hope it works out.79RhodyFan wrote: ↑2 years agoI am really high on Carey's potential. He was the only player who showed improvement last year from the previous. Number one fan in the Bassy fan club!
Seriously if that dude can put on some muscle he will be a bull driving in the lane and he'll play defense like a demon.
I think he will be Archie's TJ Buchanan

Happy to hear what he says about Bassy. While he’s not a shot first PG a better shooting percentage will help keep opposing defenses honest.

Think so? I kinda read it (maybe hopefully?) as... "Kid has a good 'tude, but he needs to get a lot better this off-season to get any run."
If he plays a lot, I just don't think that's gonna be a good thing...unless he's 3x the player he was last year.

Re: Roster 2022-23
I think both "Reef thinking that Archie thinks Bassy has potential" and what you write can both be true. Archie probably thinks that IF (and only if) Bassy works very hard he'll become a better player and be good enough to be at least serviceable in his system.NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑2 years agoThink so? I think you are both saying the same things.

Al McGuire used to say that the best thing about freshmen is they become sophomores. If Bassy wants to work -- and we've seen no indication to the contrary -- I have every confidence this coaching staff will help him improve.
Miller's Dayton teams always seemed to play like seniors even when they weren't.

Agreed, Blueram and 74. Probably will add another 4-5 in the coming months and leave a few open for mid-season transfers?
Maybe Archie lands Durogordon then concentrates on bigs? The coming weeks will be interesting.

I would not be surprised if he tries to fill all 13 spots.
Remember we can also lose some players between now and mid-season.
