Trifecta
Hurley = OUT
Martin = OUT
Toppin = OUT
Sorry guys...don't dump Rhody to chase success. This is what happens. Enjoy the offseason.
Hurley is now 4 years in with ZERO tourney wins at the storied UConn basketball school. ZERO! Not very Calhoun-like. We have some Rhody fans that think he is infallible. Well what are the excuses this time around?
GO RHODY!

That's funny. The excuses are pathetic. St Peter's beat Kentucky. Pretty sure they have been rebuilding from the ground up for 100 years with no resources. What kind of ingrate URI fan would try dancing on Dan Hurley's head? I shudder to think where we would be tonight if Thorr hadn't convinced Dan to come here 10 years ago.

You don't get it. I loved Hurley when he was here. But he left. I understand why. But I don't kiss his butt like some of you do. He actually has flaws. Let's see how he does next year. He will have lots of talent.

We all have flaws, man. I feel a lot of gratitude for Dan and what he did here for us. I don't take any joy from him going thru it tonight. I don't think he has much to be ashamed of anyways - shit happens in these tournaments. But I know he's going to have a rough couple of days.

Dan Hurley did a ton for us while he was here. Some of my favorite moments as a sports fan came as part of the team he created and lead.TruePoint wrote: ↑2 years ago We all have flaws, man. It sucked when he left. Fucking sucked. I couldn't cheer for him, hey it's easier to leave than be left, but I couldn't go against him either.
That feeling left over the last day or two. Hearing what he said about URI, knowing that that probably is a good part of why we're celebrating over tonight's news, I'm done my grudge over him leaving. I'd be happy if he made the NCAA championship game every year, I just want to be the team that beats him in that game every year.
Thank you Dan

Nobody was more mad that he left than I was. Like, somewhat embarrassingly in retrospect, I was personally hurt that he left. So on some level I get it.RhowdyRam02 wrote: ↑2 years agoDan Hurley did a ton for us while he was here. As you said, over time that feeling subsided a bit. I've hated UConn my whole life, since way before Dan left here to go there. When I found myself checking UConn scores and hoping they had won, I didn't really understand what was happening with myself lol.
I remember when we were on a streak in the 2019-20 season and it seemed like we were going to make a run at the tournament, at some point he tweeted something that made it clear he was not only watching our games but rooting for us (which Ace confirmed here). I wasn't really surprised as much as reminded why I liked the guy so much. I think on top of what he did here as a basketball coach, he's a legit good dude and someone I liked rooting for on a personal level. What he did for us in the last couple of days - and who knows the actual extent or impact of it - was another example.

I have nothing but respect for Dan Hurley !
We don’t get Miller without Dan ….he pushed for upgrades to the program that must be coming and spoke highly of the program and job opportunity.
URI and all of us who love and support this program owe him a debt of gratitude.
Thank you Dan.

I agree with most of that. But he also supported the decision to hire Cox who most of you crapped on for years. Hurley doesn’t get UConn job without Rhode Island (and some clutch shots from EC Mathews etc). So it goes both ways.Rhody Blue wrote: ↑2 years ago I have nothing but respect for Dan Hurley !

What an embarrassing thread? We confirm the Archie hire and this how you respond? Yikes.
Toppin and Martin transferred to better themselves cause they could see the writing on the wall. From where I sit, they clearly made the right decision cause they were still playing today in the NCAAs. I root for all these kids to do well at their new schools no matter what school.

I'll say this again.
The people on this board who shit on and hate Hurley make less than zero sense.
Him bringing this program to where it was is the exact reason we are able to hire Archie.

I was wrong to start this thread last night. It was late, I had a few drinks, and I overreacted. I apologize. I said it a thousand times before, I loved Hurley when he was here. Because of him, great memories were made. When we beat Creighton I was watching the game in NYC with 8 friends from URI and we had a blast. We had a private section in the bar and we all went out for dinner together as well. Awesome night. When we beat Oklahoma the next year, I met a few friends in Pittsburgh for the game. Took an early flight for the noon tipoff, was going nuts when EC hit some clutch 3's at the end of the game. Went to some bars after that, then a great steakhouse, and the Casino to end the night. I come across the pictures from those moments with my friends and cherish them. We don't get together often enough, but when Rhody is a contender, we make it a point to make it happen. This is one of the things that is so special about sports. It's about so much more. I can't wait for the next chance to create more of these memories, as well as going to meaningful exciting games in a packed Ryan Center, or watching every minute of our games on TV. Clearly, I am still bitter about Hurley's move to UConn, but I do not forget what he did for us here. So again, my apologies for the post. I should have kept it to myself. Looking forward to dancing soon with Coach Miller.

My hate for uConn is a throwback to Yankee conference days. Still hate em which makes no sense I guess since Dan Hurley is a seriously good dude.
I’ll continue to try and focus most of my hate on Friartown.
Dan might get beat up on the boneyard for a bit but he wasn’t beaten by a cupcake last night. Agree with others on T Martin why wouldn’t you follow him to Storrs if you were a student athlete?

Right - still HATE UConn though. I would have rooted for Hurley just about anywhere with about three exceptions, UConn, PVD, UMass. It’s not our fault he chose a team we can’t root for, it makes him hate-able even though I genuinely like him. I will always root for UConn to lose. ALWAYS!

Re: Trifecta
All good with me, NYCT.
I was shocked and pissed at Dan for moving on to UCONN too. Couldn't believe with all the opportunities he would have that he actually went to one of our most hated rivals. I eventually got over it because it's really hard to root against that guy. If he went anywhere else besides PC or UCONN this wouldn't even be an issue.
Calhoun is the real villain here. He ended a storied rivalry because he was too insecure to play us. I can only imagine what that rivalry would be like today? I think to this day we've played them more times than PC and have only played against UMASS and Brown more. Say what you want about PC but at least they still play us? (Obviously last year being the exception ).
Similar but different with Al going to BC. Hated them before he coached there and hate them now but rooted for them when he was there because how could you root against Al? And URI refused to pay him what he was worth so he left after 9 years and I was happy for him and totally understood. He wanted to be here for a long time too. Our loss.
This will never happen but I would love to see someone organize an annual BeanPot Fall tournament for basketball with the 6 Yankee Conference schools and PC and BC played at TD Garden. Again, it will never happen but would be very cool.

All good, I admittedly had some of the same thoughts last night. I was pulling for Dan but it was hard to not notice that a lot of old friends bowed out earlier than expected.
Searching some UConn tweets last night was a wild ride... they're an unhinged bunch.

Still love the stat though that he got us 2 NCAAT wins and hasn’t won 1 yet @ UConn but we know it’s coming
