PF TARIQ OWENS, LAUREL (MD.) ST. VINCENT PALOTTI
Make no mistake about it, Owens needs to add more strength to his lean frame but he can play. What he can really do is go and get a rebound on the offensive end. He seems to have nice touch but perhaps lack a little confidence on offense.
In a sense, I think that is true of any recruit. I don't get amped up over stars, ratings, etc. But, I wouldn't call it no great loss. Some VERY good coaches saw fit to offer and his profile, I think at least, is a kid Rhody would want going forward. There seems to be enough skill (well, I guess you can never get enough skill) on the roster and coming in. I think every other year at least, it's nice to bring in a kid like this. Especially with the defense DH wants to build. It doesn't have to be Tariq Owens, necessarily, but I'd like to see someone like that in the 2014 class.
According to Verbal Commits as to URI:
4/2/2014 - 2014 PF Tariq Owens (6-9, 205, 3.3★) | Overall Rank: 155 | Position Rank: 34 had his interest level updated from None - Committed Elsewhere to Medium. - Per Evan Daniels

I think they want to give whoever the new coach is a chance to
change the kid's mind, before they get courted elsewhere.
Other than that, they're being unreasonable.
Who wants a player who doesn't want to be there?

With the coaching carousel in motion, there's lots of players all of a sudden available. I'm sure URI is keeping an eye out.

If Ohio starts releasing recruits I wouldn't mind seeing URI talk to Nehemias Morillo, a 6-6 wing. Decent numbers; juco. Played at St. Benedict's the year after Hurley left and then played at Notre Dame Prep. Lots of connections there if the staff think he's worth pursuing.

Anthony Stewart, the Ohio assistant who recruited him, is looking for a job. Well connected in that part of the country

Another former Ohio commit (JUCO Rodell Wigginton) just signed with Buffalo. I'm perfectly fine distributing these guys equally among Hurleys. Bobby can have Wigginton, Dan will take Owens.
