Re: The Transfer Carousel - 2022
"Jalen Graham, Arizona State's lone All-Pac-12 selection, has entered the transfer portal."
"The 6-foot-9 forward out of Mountain Pointe averaged 9.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists starting in 22 of 29 games this season. He scored in double figures in 13 of the last 18 games of the season, highlighted by a career best of 19 points in ASU's loss to USC on Feb. 3. He shot .486 from the field this season and .528 from the free-throw line."

Re: The Transfer Carousel - 2022
I would think the Murphy brothers trio of Wakefield might be in the contention for combined most schools attended. Only the elder Erik stayed at one school for his career.

Ward reportedly chose Xavier over Virginia Tech, Maryland, LSU, Indiana, and Louisville.

Re: The Transfer Carousel - 2022
Good chance is wildly, wildly optimistic. Ward’s former high school coach is an assistant at Virginia Tech. Jordan Brooks was hired at Xavier as their director of recruiting last summer, which is mainly what got Ward to Xavier.

Keep an eye on Maryland as well at Vtech. Good point about Coach Brooks as well Ace, someone who knows everyone in the DC area.

He left Texas for “personal reasons” and his dad was on twitter criticizing Beard, so I don’t know if he’s officially in yet, but odds are he’ll land there soon enough.

Re: The Transfer Carousel - 2022
For once I see these big names and think - wow, we might actually have a shot with Archie here.
Probably still the honeymoon phase, but you have to think that his name/success, combined with the opportunity to "build" something here, leave a legacy, and get limitless playing time gives us some serious juice.
Hurley was able to sell EC/Hass/Jared on the same

My favorite recruitment quote from any of those guys was when EC said "I didn't even know where Rhode Island was."Blue Man wrote: ↑2 years ago For once I see these big names and think - wow, we might actually have a shot with Archie here.

I don’t get the usefulness of posting every kid that enters the portal on this thread. If there is a connection to Rhody/Archie or we are listed as a suitor sure but there are gonna be like 2k transfers.

Just to solidify this a bit... Let's try to limit things to:bigappleram wrote: ↑2 years ago I don’t get the usefulness of posting every kid that enters the portal on this thread. If there is a connection to Rhody/Archie or we are listed as a suitor sure but there are gonna be like 2k transfers.
1) Former URI players.
2) Atlantic 10 players.
3) Recruits with Archie Miller connections.
4) Anyone else interesting, like former recruiting targets.
For #4, if you're going to post, please say WHY it's interesting or noteworthy. Like, if you can't be bothered to write a couple of words about the transfer, others might not find it so compelling either.

BAR, for the most part, I think only a small fraction of those in the portal ( 500+) have actually been posted here.bigappleram wrote: ↑2 years ago I don’t get the usefulness of posting every kid that enters the portal on this thread. I think we have been good about only posting players that we may find interesting, as pointed out by SG.

I haven’t looked into how they get these ratings, but I do know I am going to waste a lot of time looking through this list as it grows.

Re: The Transfer Carousel - 2022
How does this thing work anyway? Is there a legal tampering period...a signing period...a deadline...a start date...NIL cap?
Or, is it just wild wild west from now (I get that it's likely to pick up after the tourney) until the start of next season?
The casual fan needs speculation and rumor to start flying asap. No seasons off.

Is it too early in the transfer portal process and the rankings skewed as a result?

On a team that was below .500 against a soft schedule.
Would love to see what Archie can do with some of these guys if they fit his style and want to stay.

Need guards!

Re: The Transfer Carousel - 2022
It's early, plus 16 of the very best teams and 8 NIT teams are still playing. It's also usually role or bench players, in one way or another, who are transferring. I like Walker and Martin, but they're good cogs in a rotation, not conference all-star types. One more thing to consider - Some players statistical records might be deceiving, because they are or they feel like they're being used in improper roles.

Re: The Transfer Carousel - 2022
Yeah, it’s early and some seniors are still deciding if they’re coming back for another year, which may influence the decisions of other guys on the roster. This is the week where post-season teams who are no longer playing start to have those individual sit-down meetings with players to see where everyone is at.

Re: The Transfer Carousel - 2022
He needs to convince them that one on the floor at a time is the winning formula.
Can’t have a big that’s at laterally slow as the Mitchell’s trying to cover other team’s stretch 4’s. They’re elite rim protectors. Best defensive back-to-the-basket 5’s in the A10.
It just hurts them and the team trying to play one out of position to satisfy the “both play at the same time” philosophy.

Re: The Transfer Carousel - 2022
Eh, the Mitchells aren't exactly slow plodders, though. It's not like trying to play Chris Holm and Jon Clark at the same time, or something like that. More like a pair of Lamonte Ulmers. And, even when they weren't in there together, usually it was one of them with Walker, and URI finished the year 50th in defensive efficiency, per KenPom. I think you -can- play them both at the same time, if the rest of the roster personnel is better, and you have a coach with a stronger hand on tactics.Blue Man wrote: ↑2 years agoHe needs to convince them that one on the floor at a time is the winning formula.

Really, I'm still of the mindset that it's the lack of dynamic guards on offense that hurt us last year. We couldn't reliably shoot from the outside, or penetrate for easy buckets. It seems like the Mitchells are coming back though, so we're going to get some new data on this for 2022-23 anyway.
