Mama Mitchell throwing her support behind Archie. I think this is a good thing.
I’m still not sure this is a good thing or not although there is no debating their talent, but it just can’tgo back to the way it was with Cox. Miller won’t stand for it. Foul shots, turnovers and above everything technicals and attitude to succeed.
Foul shots are the absolute least of my worries. Hundreds of players suck at FTs but are tremendous players.
If both of them cut down on the turnovers, dumb plays and technical fouls, we’ll live with them shooting 55-60%.

Blue Man, since you nailed the Archie Miller hire, can you please start a Rhody v UConn game conspiracy theory thread? This has nothing to do with playing Hurley. We are neighboring states, minimal travel and would be fun for both fan bases. I really don't even have to explain. Why can't we make this game happen? It's really a shame.
Every year, first regular season Saturday, Mohegan Sun arena, half of the ticket allotment to UConn, half to URI, split the arena in half with the fanbases. Mohegan Sun gives UConn a kickback to make them whole for losing a home game, because the casino will make way more than what they'd invest with our degenerate fanbases roaming the grounds. Who loses anything in that scenario? Get it done!
I do. I lose in this scenario because I'm addicted to blackjack.
The last known increase for the URI Assistant Coaches Salary Pool was back in 2018 when Cox was hired. The pool amount back then saw a 6.25% increase as it went from $400k to $425K. A jump to $765k is HUGE. That is an 80% increase from four years ago. The pool may have been bigger in 2021-22 due to cost of living adjustments but this would still be a significant jump. This will allow URI to hire a much higher expertise level of assistants.
My guess is Archie's compensation is very back ended given any money he earns in the first two years is offset by a decrease in his Indiana buyout. Would not be surprised to see something like an average of $1.25 his first two seasons with an average of $2M in the last three.

He will be officially introduced as the 21st head coach in program history during a press conference Monday, March 21 at 10 a.m. The event will be held in the URI Higgins Welcome Center, 45 Upper College Road.
Guessing the $8.5m is just base salary and doesn't include things like a cut of ticket sales? Would also figure its backloaded to take advantage of the IU buyout money

I've never been to the Higgins Welcome Center. Is this a large facility, large enough to hold lots of fans at a press conference? Because I want to go.

I look at it this way, the 1st year roster is going to be cobbled together from spare parts no matter what. Between any recruits he gets between now and then and transfer portal guys. Never hurts to have talent there, plus you dont know how they'll act under an established coach like Miller.
Basically, if they want to come back for year 1, we aren't fully in a position to say no to talent.

Cox failed but he’s a super quality guy. Let’s embrace our new coach but I believe we should show class here in the forums regarding DC.
He’ll land on his feet and good luck to him.
I’m in on the twins, Walker and M Martin from my perspective. Miller might recruit over them but that’s a good core of A10 talent to start with. Portal picking from there could yield a quality team!
Solid twitter play by Ms. Mitchell-well done.
Go Rhody!
Time to win.

We're gonna run the picket fence at "em.....now boys don't get caught watchin' the paint dry!
I think people are overestimating how backloaded this contract will be. If Archie and URI specifically set this up to pay significantly less during the years his Indiana buyout covers that would open up a potential lawsuit against both parties. Something similar happened where the Arkansas booster club sued the Patriots and Bret Bielma. I'm sure there will be some backloading but it's not going above potential inflation I would imagine

I would think the $8.5M is the total compensation package to Archie as it includes all perks and bonuses. I cannot see URI coming up with more than that along with the big increases to operational costs (additional $340K for staff salary and more charters). Consider this is a MASSIVE increase from what URI was currently paying. David Cox was making in the low $700k range with all the perks and his staff pool was just around $425K. This new deal more than doubles the financial commitment to the program (goes from an annual salary average of around some $1.13M to $2.46M + Cox $300k buyout).

I think the fans should be given some credit here. In his time at Dayton he probably coached at the Ryan Center four or five times. Some of those games were likely very important. You think he's taking this job if there were four or five thousand in the stands like we saw this year? No way. He knows that if the team is doing well how wild the place can be.
Basic details: 2million base salary or 400k annually for 5 years, Additional 750k per year for first 2 years, and additional 1million annually years 3-5 from gate receipts at home games, also receives 200k more annually in first 2 years and 450k in years 3-5 for event appearances, also 250k over contract for media appearances, also has performance bonuses: 20k for A-10 Tourney 1 seed, 20k bonus for winning A-10 tourney, 20k bonus for each 1st-3rd round NCAA win and 25k bonus for Sweet 16 Elite 8 Final Four and National Championship wins, undisclosed coach of the year bonus, 10k bonus for team GPA above 3.0

True. Was thinking it more so because of the round number, where ticket % is unknown. You're probably right and its a "ticket % up to X dollars" type of language

Ok, well my take above about minimal separation through the years seems to have aged very poorly very quickly

And to break it down by year total compensation (without bonuses):
2022-23: 1.4 million
23-24: 1.4 million
24-25: 1.9 million
25-26: 1.9 million
26-27: 1.9 million

And the last three times are what really matters as in 2013 the team stunk. In 2017 when they were good he got to really see what the arena can be like.
There's no doubt it my mind that it made a difference.

I think you were partially right. The thing that got the Patriots sued was that they were super egregious about it. I don’t have the details in front of me but I think they tried paying Bielema like an entry-level staffer. Like 45k a year lol. URI could not get away with paying Archie 200k in years 1-3 and then 4m in years 4 and 5. But this kind of structure is pretty common in sports contracts even where there is no offset in play, which is what makes it OK compared to that Bielema situation, as an example.

I like you, you seem like a good person and we appreciate your input and participating here as a fan of conference rival without being a shithead. So I do not mean this in any sort of way that is personal to you at all. But. Really glad to hear you say this, I think its a pretty ringing endorsement from someone in your spot. If you were like "yeah, good luck" then I'd be a little rattled.
Well, all I can say is this would be like if Hurley got fired at UConn and then took the VCU job or some other A10 job. You liked Hurley for what he did at RI, but you realize that in some ways he is now going to make things more difficult for you. It's tough to cheer against somebody that helped you so much.

Thank you for the Bielma information. I didn't know it was that bad, I just knew there was a lawsuit

Kudos to Thor for leading the charge. Kudos to our new President in seeing a bigger future for our anchor sports program. Kudos to our biggest donors for committing even more of their $ to this program. And Kudos for Coach Miller for wanting to be at the helm.
This type of hire and this type of future direction for our program was going to take everyone being on the bus. The gangs all here. Nothing more we could ask for as fans and alumni.
Now it’s our turn to donate, show up, cheer loud, support the program and keep the momentum going

The key is donate. And show up. We don't want empty seats next year!!!!
First, thanks for always being a gentleman/woman on this Board. I have followed your comments over the years.
I am glad you have a lot of good things to say about Archie. One of the many things I personally missed about Dan and even Andrea Hurley was their engagement with the fans/boosters. I know Archie reportedly got his name from his personality being somewhat Archie Bunker-like, but what can we expect from him as to fan engagement? Andrea Hurley was a big supporter of Coaches Against Cancer and did a lot of fundraising, so we saw her a lot in that role, and she was a surrogate mother to the team. While Mrs. Cox was somewhat engaging, she did not define herself with a charity.
Some might think that doesn't matter, but it was a lot easier for us to open our wallets when we were going to year end parties with the team, or season preview parties, which the Hurleys and AD hosted.
I have never met Archie, so I do not have any input beyond saying that I never had any complaints about him, he seemed like a real nice guy. I am just a regular fan, I don't have any special connections or anything, his pressers, dealing with the media and the fans, etc. seemed fine to me.
I’ll take that!
I agree with LTR, there was more community engagement with Hurley. I’d like to see the program get back to that. In the past there were many events that completely went away when Cox was here.
