Yeah I trust Blue Man. This is just perfect. Like the perfect hire. I'm going to the presser and drinking beers at the Mews after.

You are right about him.LIRAM wrote: ↑2 years agoMatt is a well respected recruiter but that's all he does. He gets paid big money to bring players in. Paid 400,000 plus and has no other coaching responsibilities just recruit. That won't work here.Jersey77 wrote: ↑2 years ago If Miller is hired wouldn't mind seeing Matt Abdelmassih as an assistant.
He is available and ESPN rated him the #1 transfer recruiter in the nation.
Very familiar with the Northeast, graduated and coached at St. John's.
Later joined Hoiberg at Iowa State and then Nebraska. I
Last year recruited the #18 class in the country and #3 B10.
He spends all his time on the road recruiting. working connections.
Not a terrible thing if you have the other assistants assuming the other duties.
I know he almost went back to St. John's at one time, they were trying to get him again.
You are probably right, don't think he will end up here. Maybe not a good fit.
Would love to have Preston Murphy if not for his "show cause".

I wouldn't say it wouldn't work here, though for it to work the boosters would have to make sure there's enough money in the assistant coaches pool and the other two assistants would have to be strong in development and scoutingLIRAM wrote: ↑2 years agoMatt is a well respected recruiter but that's all he does. With all the power 6 openings and those rosters turning over I would guess Matt is going to have his pick. If Kevin Willard goes to Maryland and Shaheen gets his shot at Seton Hall look for Matt with the Hall. Fun times If we can lock Coach Miller up and see how all this plays out knowing we have him.Jersey77 wrote: ↑2 years agoYou are right about him.LIRAM wrote: ↑2 years agoMatt is a well respected recruiter but that's all he does. Re: The Archie Miller Conspiracy Thread.
I remember the push we all made with making donations to the program when we were losing Dan. We donated whatever we could just to let administration know what we thought of the man. I'm hoping that once this is announced we can all do the same. Many of us donate once a year or for the day of giving already but it would be fantastic if we donated again the day of the presser. Let's all get behind this!

remember that time I got drunk and called for Thorr's job? (only like a month ago)
well, I am drunk again, but this time I am calling for a statue to be erected in Thorr's honor outside the RC!
Get the contract signed NOW!!
can't wait to start my monthly donation again to URI basketball fund. If I didn't have a dog and a baby on the way I would be getting season tickets.

Re: The Archie Miller Conspiracy Thread.
I think this is spot on with just about everything. Thorr deserves a lot of credit for not only hiring the right people for the most part (Reiss, Flemming is looking good, Hurley), but for what he's done to try and improve the department. We've always heard the biggest drawbacks of the program is the lack of "the little things" that add up. Thorr to his credit has been working to improve that.Blue Man wrote: ↑2 years agoThis. All of this. 110% of this.TruePoint wrote: ↑2 years agoI mean…we fired him in November on this board. Hardly surprising that all of this was in motion for a while - Thorr was watching the same stuff we were.RhodyRamFan69 wrote: ↑2 years ago
This tweet implies that Cox was effectively fired at the beginning of February
I hope people recognize what a phenomenal job the guy has done, btw. All of his hires, save for Cox which he essentially had his hands tied on because of that arrangement and who the fan base was at least partially sold on, have worked. And more to the point, as blueman has been alluding to, selling the donors and marshaling their support to a place where this type of hire is realistically possible is a huge accomplishment if you understand the culture and the history of this athletic department. I don’t think this fan base appreciates the guy nearly enough - we acknowledge how this job can be hard despite its obvious upside for a coach, but Thorr is basically in the same spot minus the potential payoff of getting all the credit when they succeed.
Thorr Bjorn is the best in the business. It's lost on a lot of people how hard he works, the people he's brought into athletics at URI, and how he's replaced phenomenal people that have moved to big time programs with even more phenomenal people. I'm talking about all of athletics, not just coaches. It is a miracle for what he's been able to do with what he's been given.
That man deserves our praise, adoration, and donations - so that he can continue to make the place that we all love the best it can be.
Every program in the top 12 conferences of NCAA basketball has money around it. Whether or not the donors are willing to spend it is a direct result of the vision, salesmanship, and leadership of the athletic director.
Cox was the right hire at the time, as we were contractually obligated to follow through on it - because we didn't have the budget for Hurley to retain Cox without that addendum.
Thorr doesn't miss. He's made every right move if you're plugged in enough to URI and if you understand the limitations and realities here.
I also agree Cox was the right hire. Things got away from here the last year or two by taking a chance on some guys that just didn't work out. At this level, all the coaches in the conference know the game, know how to coach and have been successful at some level. At the end of the day, someone has to lose, and unfortunately it was us more often then not. Thorr gave Cox enough time to try and right the ship, and now it appears he is making the right next move.

Awesome news, Goodman does a radio show with him so you knew he would break the news. Great work by Thorr, quickly done. FYI Sniper has been following Archie in Twitter.

What a great day.
I had my doubts it would happen but thrilled to be wrong.
I got to hand it to Blue Man for keeping the faith.
