We suck and should not have blown yet another double digit 2nd half lead. It’s also true that Richmond got some weak ass points to help cut into that lead that we did not get. Both things are true.Rhody15 wrote: ↑2 years ago

You want to review every single close play over a 40-minute game? We'll be there for 3 hours. No thanks. Missed calls happen over the course of a game. Deal with it. I'll take the last 2-minute review. I think that's been a good thing for the sport.KingstonLane wrote: ↑2 years ago I stand by the fact that only reviewing key plays in the last 2 minutes of a game is the stupidest thing we do in this sport

Okay...I found it. I'll give you it's close...Probably close enough to review, but there is no way you can tell from the camera angle. You would have to see another angle to be sure one way or the other. And for all we know, it was reviewed during the next time out and not mentioned since there was no change.

Ref spun his finger right after the shot.. pretty sure that means tee up replay for next stoppage in play which was a few minutes later.. unless they forgot I bet they looked at it . This team should put in for a request for 34 minute games. They have to be one of the worst teams in the country with under 6 to go..

He did? You saw that definitively? Or did you hear the slap? Because it happened 4 feet from the official who was had Shepard's body obstructing his view. So first of all, he may not see everything. And secondly and more importantly, it occurred right in front of URI's bench. I didn't see them arguing that there was a foul. I saw no reaction as the ball went out of bounds.PeterRamTime wrote: ↑2 years agoHe slapped his right hand
Officiating was fine and has no bearing on the team's inability to win tight games.

Everyone here knew they were going to collapse and lose just not when and exactly how. Richmond played arguably some of the worst basketball for 20 plus minutes and what did we lead by 14 or 15 at the most? Obviously we can't hold that small of a lead

That was pretty sad, but expected. Just an awful season. Our lack of PG play was blatant at the end of that game (and Richmond having a good one). I don't mean to pick on Carey but when Gilyard stripped him with 4:30 to go, that really summed things up fo me. When they stepped up their D, our guards couldn't do anything. And the missed free throws...oh forget it. TIME TO MOVE ON!

Refs miss 10 calls during the game that can’t be reviewed, then they miss 1 during the last 2 minutes that gets corrected. Doesn’t help determine a “proper” outcome

Re: 3/10 | Richmond | 8:30PM (USA) | A10 Second Round
Well that was a terrible second half . Turnovers , turnovers, turnovers , missed free throws , missed free , poor officiating, poor officiating Poor
officiating . Too many one sided calls all night long along with many calls that were not made , but URI made the loss possible at the line and
their careless passing and ball handling . With mildly better free throw shooting and maybe 5 less turnovers they might have won the game despite the one side officiating . And why in hell did Shepard commit that foul with 26 seconds left . If that didn't happen they still could have won. Another
stupid mistake by a URI player . And the game changed right after Thomas missed two free throws . We have seen that too many times this season .
Obviosly this team is lacking in poise .The players are unable to control their nerves it looks like . As soon as they get a decent lead in a game they go about throwing the ball awayy and missing important free throws. And this time the final blow came from a 6th year senior that finally ended their chance for a comeback win.

I hope that everyone one on this team, including coaches, leave. I don’t want to see anyone associated with Cox’s “culture” of this year ever again. We are truly an embarrassment to the sport and the University. Our bball IQ has to be about as good as our FT shooting. Back to back shot clock violations because guys have no awareness of the time? Unacceptable. 18 turnovers, most in the 2nd half? Unacceptable. Foul by Shepard at the end down by 2 with 9 secs on the shot clock and 26 on the game clock? Mind boggling.

2 for 17 3-point shooting.
7 for 15 free throw shooting.

We played Richmond 80 minutes this year. We were in the lead for 64 of the 80 minutes. We lost both games. That is remarkable ineptitude in the last 5 minutes.

Carey was unplayable last year and just had a solid season. Now some of you are saying get rid of Ish? Have some faith. He’s still young and can turn things around, just like Carey…
The Twins, Malik, Carey, Walker, Ish, Thomas all had some nice moments this year. I’d be okay with all of them back. I’d hope we could find one or two top A10-level talent to play with that core.

It's amazing how easy it was to predict EXACTLY how this game was going to play out in the second half. Like unbelievably easy. Like so easy I could've done the announcing blindfolded from the 10 minute mark.
The saddest part to me having zero emotion for this game and the outcome whatsoever...absolutely none. It's been a long time since I have felt this much apathy towards the program...with my only focus being on moving past this year as quickly as possible....hoping and praying we make a nice hire and can get back to relevance/excitement/winning in a hurry.

Re: 3/10 | Richmond | 8:30PM (USA) | A10 Second Round
Playmikemore , I don't think I was whining about the officiating . I was just telling the truth and I did not blame the loss on the officiating if you actually read and comprehended my post . Do I think it was a factor ? Yes I do . But it was still a winnable game as I pointed out. and yes , as a matter of fact I have officiated many many games at many levels CYO , Elementary school and high School and was in demand though it was almost 40 years ago , granted. They could have called a foul almost every time the Mitchells touched the ball. On the steal from Carey by Gilyard , he wrappedhis right arm around Carey as he reached around for the steal with his left which is a canny move. That should have been called a foul . Golden plowed into a set URI player and should have been called for an offensive foul , instead URI got the foul . The out of bounds call which was changed was originally called URI ball . There is no way the officials could see who touched that ball last because the ball disappeared behind the URI player and since there was no indisputable evidence either way it should have remained URI ball. But again they still had an opportunity to win and they didn't . Are you telling me that Richmond was not as physical as URI and the defense on the Mitchells was not at least as physical as that on golden ? And the URI guards were more physical than URI guards ? How do you explain 33 free throws to 15 when URI went inside constantly and had a size advantage which generally results in the smaller team having to foul . Gilyard 2 fouls Golden3 fouls Gustavson 2 fouls Burton 2 fouls , Cayo 2 fouls no one with 4 ,. URi El-Amin4 fouls Shepard 4 fouls because they are so much more physical than Gilyard who was all over his man and Gustavson . MahKel Mitchell 4 fouls Makahi Mitchell 3 fouls . So URI had 3 guys with 4 fouls and UR had zero with four fouls . I don't believe URI was the more aggressive defense especially under the basket . But again I believe what I said was accurate . If you don't that is your opinion . I don't consider it whining . It is my opinion and you have yours that it was all fine . I did not blame the loss on the officials, but I believe it did have an effect on the game . That is my opinion . And is your point that the officiating was excellent and had absolutely no effect one way or the other ? I am certain you will find many who disagree with that assessment . Maybe the officials were influenced by the crowd ? I don't know , but I know it happens . Not every game is officiated well . That is just a fact . And in my opinion this one was not well officiated . URI has lost many many games this season on their own . This was not one of the better officiated games this season. that is all I have to say .

Re: 3/10 | Richmond | 8:30PM (USA) | A10 Second Round
We need a head coach. Not 4 combined assistant coaches pooled together on the branch.
It’s either toast for DC tomorrow or Monday.
I heard too much locally here in SoCo as to what the bench culture was like to not even give it a second guess that this is now over.

No need to hammer any more nails into the coffin. If I were Cox, I would thank URI for giving me this chance to be a HC, apologize for not being ready for the job, resign and forgo the buyout, and apply for the many assistant coaching jobs. That would be the honorable thing to do.

I need to step up and take responsibility for the crappy season. I attended the George Washington game in January when this whole mess started and they blew their first 14 point lead. I'll stay in Maine next year and maybe that will bring them better luck!

These group of guards have to be close to the worst in the country. That line is embarrassing. I know someone is going to point out Carey, but no team is winning with him starting ever. He should always be a role player getting about 15 minutes a night on a good team that has guards that can shoot.SGreenwell wrote: ↑2 years ago With two minutes left, the combined line for El-Amin, Leggett, Sheppard and Thomas - 4 points, 1-for-17 from the field, 5 TOs, 7 PF.

I turned the game off at half time. My wife asked me why. I said I know the outcome.
Hire Al Skinner to just recruit guards. ( this is kind of a joke).
