After finishing in second place in conference play, Rhody gets the double bye & is catapulted to the quarterfinals of the A10 tournament where they take on the Saint Joseph’s Hawks. The Hawks beat Duquesne Thursday night by double digits to get the chance to play the Rams. Rhody beat the Hawks earlier this season in Philadelphia even with extremely poor free throw showing (1-8). The Hawks are led by freshman forward Talya Brugler, who leads this team in both scoring (10.2) and rebounding (5.6). Back in mid-January, the Hawks second leading scorer, Kaliah Henderson, left the team & entered the transfer protocol. Mackenzie Smith is their best deep threat, shooting it at 40% on the season & she has had 9 games with at least 5 or more makes from behind the arc. She closed the regular season with 7 3’s on way to scoring a game high 26 against Duquesne. Length should not be an issue for URI in this game as Rhody has a slight heigh advantage. There could be a decent contingent of Hawk fans given the Chase Fieldhouse is less than an hour away from downtown Philadelphia. Even with the extra support from Hawk Hill, look for Rhody to take care of business. URI wins it 60-51. Go Rhody!!
