URI travels to the Midwest to take on Patrick Baldwin Jr & the Milwaukee Panthers. As I am sure many of you know, the 4th overall recruit Baldwin Jr shunned powerhouse programs like Duke, UNC, & Kentucky & decided to stay locally to play for Milwaukee. What also helped this future top 10 NBA draft pick in his decision to stay in Milwaukee was the fact that his father is the 4th year coach of the school. This 6’9” guard, who is averaging 17 & 8, provides a match-up challenge for Rhody. Hopefully Malik Martin is ready for the challenge as I see him having to cover Baldwin. His backcourt teammate Deandre Gholston (Preseason 2nd Team) also has some height to him at 6’5” & is averaging 16 & 5. These two players are averaging over half of their team’s points. Even with these two great players, they Panthers have only won 2 of their first 8 games as of this writing. (They are playing Friday night in Colorado.) Some other fun facts about the Panthers’ roster is that they have ex-Celtic Vin Baker’s son, Vin Baker Jr. They also have Manute & Bol Bol’s cousin Moses Bol who is not so surprisingly 7’1”. Damn that family runs tall. Unfortunately, Bol only averages a few minutes per game but would really enjoy an Antwan Walker dunk over him. For the Rams to win this game, they need to play good team basketball. Baldwin Jr is going to get his points. Just need to limit his teammates, especially Gholston. In the Sacred Heart game, Tyler Thomas’ defender would provide help defense & ended up leaving Thomas open. That can’t happen with Baldwin’s defender in Monday’s game. Shout out to Makhel who has done a much better job taking care of the ball; 0 turnovers in his last two games. The Rams have 7 players averaging between 20 – 28 minutes all of them are averaging between 8 and 11 points. So the offense is definitely spread out compared to Milwaukee. I am feeling a double-double from Walker Monday night. This is Rhody’s last true road game before conference play, so go get the W. URI should come in as about 5-point favorites. As long as Rhody doesn’t go ice cold from the field, URI wins this one 70-64. Road games are never easy, but I am feeling a win. Go Rhody!!
