He wasn't the PG in the beginning. Worst coaching move ever in our programs history was moving Jeff off the point.

Re: Fatts (Grad Transfer to Maryland)
Probably MMQB'ing here (though I remember saying it or at least thinking it at the time). I would have loved to have seen JD start and Fatts off the bench in JD's last two years. There would obviously be times with both in the game, where either one could be point, but Jeff Dowtin was one of the best point guards we've had here and was a leader. It was asinine to move him off the ball for long periods of time.

Positionless basketball. Folks label players because it makes their role more identifiable, but they def switched bringing the ball up the floor depending on the pressure or the matchup. Fatts was stealthily quick, made the press break much easier.
I don’t think we ever had a true PG when they were both here, just MY OPINION. Not debating, just sharing my take.

Jeff Dowtin was one of the best point guards I've ever seen at URI. The cumulative numbers might say otherwise because he was adrift in a small boat for two years, but he's right up there with Jiggy Williamson, Silk Owens and Tyson Wheeler. What a waste.

Wait I was told you can’t fire coaches mid season?
Fatts may have killed 2 coaching careers he’s so selfish.

Re: Fatts (Grad Transfer to Maryland)
Coach killer! Jk….but if you look at the losses they have had there is a common (and painfully familiar) trend…2-10, 1-7, 4-11….shooting 20% from three for the season. Only reason his FG% is “ok” at 38% is because he has not taken a lot of 3s.

Re: Fatts (Grad Transfer to Maryland)
Wow, that is surprising, wonder if there is more to this than what it appears.
I know he wasn't well liked by some down there, but didn't expect this.
In his 7 years at Maryland In the BIG (10 total) , they went to 5 NCAAT (should of been 6 except for cancellation) with some success, including a Sweet 16.
In 2020 they finished 1st in the B10 (14-6) only to have Covid derail the postseason.
He has been around but is only 56.

Trying to put this on Fatts is BS in my opinion. As I said yesterday, plenty of blame to go around.

Re: Fatts (Grad Transfer to Maryland)
ESPN has gotten a short story up: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... us-seasons
Danny Manning is the interim coach - He was fired by Wake Forest after going 78-111 in six years, per Wikipedia. So, unless they finish gangbusters, I do imagine that they try to land someone high profile after the year. In April 2021, Turgeon was extended through 2026, so I imagine this is a decision of his own, vs. being forced out.

Danny Manning is interim coach now, so the rotations will be interesting to watch. If you were to ever get an aggressive interim guy, Manning is probably it. He got canned from Wake end of last season after 6 years, and is probably itching to make an impact with this fresh start.

Why would any coach not being forced out deliberately leave his team this early in the season, prior to conference play?
All this doesn't make sense, we don't have all the facts yet.

They must have all envisioned a different contribution from Fatts when this whole thing started. We did come out on top with our trade with Maryland. The twins for Fatts. DEAL.

Just Turgeon taking Russell alone is looking like a deal. Re: Fatts (Grad Transfer to Maryland)
I know it is very easy to dump on Fatts, but let's face it he isn't the only one responsible for some of their shortcomings this year.
Ayala the team's leading returner is averaging 13.5 pts (35% FG) and 28.6% 3pt, He is down from last season 15 pts (44%) and 34% 3pt.
They also miss Wiggins and glue guy Morsell, top defender in the B10.
Morsell at Marquette is averaging 14.5 pts, 2nd on the team in assists, and shooting 44% 3pt.
I think Maryland still has a very good team with a solid starting 5 and should be respectable in the B10.
I can also see Turgeon going back home to coach somewhere in the Midwest.

Re: Fatts (Grad Transfer to Maryland)
Looks to me that Fatts was being more of a distributor, but just can't shoot to save his life.
He had that great 3/4th of his junior year and I guess he's just been in his head. Can't stay in a flow.
Turgeon in 10 years just didn't do enough.

It seems that the big $ boosters call the shots at Maryland (as some KB posters would hope here), and all hasn't been well in College Park for awhile.
Candidates names are already being thrown around, including Rick Pitino.

No actually his assists are worse. He is currently averaging only 3.5 apg thru 8 games vs 4.5 apg at URI last season.
3P Shooting has dropped from 23.5% last year to 20% at Maryland
FT Shooting has dropped from 80% last year to 72.5% at Maryland
FG Shooting has moved up a bit from only 34% last year to 38% at Maryland
Last year he had foot, ankle, knee, wrist and shoulder issues if I remember right but this year healthy as far as I know

Crazy thing is Shaka hired Maryland assistant DeAndre Haynes who now ended up at Marquette, a little ironic.
There never seemed to be a love fest between those at Maryland and Turgeon.
