Because this is a .500 team, it’s what mediocre teams do.

So maybe the coach should call a timeout and change something about his offense so they don’t shoot so many 3s.KingstonLane wrote: ↑3 years ago There’s a lot we can say but if you shoot 11% from 3 in modern day basketball you probably lose 9/10 times
We were leading because we were attacking the basket and getting to the line.
Why did that go away?
Any plays called for Shepp since the back door cut in the first half?

Aside from all our shooting woes, Dayton made the right adjustments, we were definitely outcoached today.

And that led their 2 tallest starters to end the half with 2 fouls each. Why not keep going at them?
Oh! That requires coaching and basketball IQ. 2 things we are lacking

I mean don’t get me wrong I agree, just stating that as a fact of where we’re at. We’ve had plenty of open looks to be fair that just haven’t gone down - again that isn’t an excuse just a realityBlue Man wrote: ↑3 years agoSo maybe the coach should call a timeout and change something about his offense so they don’t shoot so many 3s.KingstonLane wrote: ↑3 years ago There’s a lot we can say but if you shoot 11% from 3 in modern day basketball you probably lose 9/10 times

My biggest takeaway is you do the scouting report on Dayton and they have no depth to their roster. Keep taking it to the rack, make them foul, get them in trouble, disrupt their lineup. Easier said than done of course but they legit only play 7 guys and 2-3 play the whole game if they literally can

Look at that! We attack Tshimanga for the first time this half and he fouls out! Me thinks if we had done that earlier, we would’ve had a better shot.

Re: 1/30 | Dayton | 4:00PM (CBSSN)
To recap:
Jeremy Sheppard is our best scoring option. Anyone keep track of how many shots he got this half?
Ish Leggett our only positive +/- player. Anyone see how often the ball wasn’t in his hands on offensive sets?
Jalen Carey is our worst ball handling guard. Anyone see how often the ball was in his hands?
Playing the injured Fatts Russell is where this game turned. Cox didn’t recognize the mistake until it was well too late.
DC is a great associate HC. He does not look like a guy who can make the in game decisions you need to be in the #1 seat.

Re: 1/30 | Dayton | 4:00PM (CBSSN)
I hate doing this because of what he’s done for the program, but this shell of “fatts russell” is not helping this team. He’s flashed for a game here or there but otherwise has been force fed minutes and killed momentum of guys who are healthy.
It’s hard for Cox to turn his back on a senior like that I’m sure, or for Fatts to miss any considerable time during his final months of college basketball, but until the team accepts he’s not who he’s supposed to be well suffer

Re: 1/30 | Dayton | 4:00PM (CBSSN)
Because outside of one slip screen and one back door cut there were not plays called for him to get crutcher off him.
For some reason he played a lot of PG and not a lot of SG.

Re: 1/30 | Dayton | 4:00PM (CBSSN)
The COACHING difference in this game:
Dayton, down 9 in the first half, calls timeout, adjusts appropriately and closes the gap to 3 at the half. (Rhody, with terrible clock management at the end of the half, first misses a chance to play for a 2-for-1, then when they get an offensive rebound with <30 seconds left, they shoot quickly, miss again and give Dayton a chance for a lay-in that would have cut the lead to 1 if not for a fraction of a second.)
True that the coach can't be out there on the floor, but it's his responsibility to prepare the players for those situations.
Then starting the second half, it was clear that one team was coached at halftime. Dayton clearly made adjustments. Rhody just went away from everything that worked for them in the first half. It took an 11-0 Dayton run to start the half before Cox called timeout. Coincidentally, that was equal to the margin of victory.
I totally get that there are a lot of factors outside the coach's control. He can't make the shots. But there are certain things he can control — including, to some degree, the ability to momentarily stop an opponent's momentum with a timeout, to make adjustments out of those timeouts, and to prepare your team for situations when you can steal an extra basket, like a 2-for-1 at the end of the half. I see no evidence that Cox is interested in doing any of these things.

Your starting lineup doesn’t matter if your coach doesn’t care to pay attention to momentum or what lineups are working during the game.
