Separately, VCU scheduled to resume basketball activities??
Wouldn’t mind some clarity on what happened here. Has to be a false positive I’d guess? Not sure how else you can have only a 2 day COVID shutdown

As much as I loved our take on the world attitude this year in the non-conference, VCU sits at 31 with a couple of wins and then some cupcakey games. Hopefully we learned from playing the tougher teams and no team in the A10 is better than Wisconsin.

Big blow to Duquesne backcourt:
Austin, Carry step away from Duquesne men's basketball team
AP Jan 9, 2021
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Tavian Dunn-Martin, who suddenly became Duquesne's lone starting guard hours before the game, scored 11 points as Duquesne narrowly beat Fordham 48-45 on Saturday.
Dunn-Martin was left alone at the starting guard spot after Maceo Austin and Sincere Carry each apparently stepped away from the program hours before the game. A third guard, Lamar Norman, entered the transfer portal Jan. 5.
A Duquesne spokesman told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review that Carry “has decided to take time away from the program.” Austin has “stepped away for personal reasons,” the spokesman said.
Austin, a sophomore who won four state championships at Kennedy Catholic, started 29 games last season. He has made four starts this year and is averaging 4.8 ppg.
Carry, a three-year starter, was a 2nd Team All-Atlantic 10 selection last year after averaging 12.2 ppg. and leading the team in assists (158). This year, he was averaging 9 ppg. and 4 apg.

Duquesne is 3-3, which doesn't exactly suggest a team in complete disarray. I'd assume they're going to have some walk-on tryouts shortly, since usually the one thing every campus has is a 5'8" to 6'1" guy who can be a last resort walk-on.

If you're telling Dambrot to get control of his program because they're having players leave and almost losing to Fordam at home, going by your logic, you would have to say the same about Cox for barely beating (and should've lost to) an 0-7 St Joe´s team (without their best player) at home and our players leaving as well.
Obviously both of those statements are patently false.
Dambrot has the program heading to the right direction from where it was before he got there.

I'm not sure they're both false. I would not say the Rhody program is 'heading in the right direction from where it was before he (insert current coach) got here..." could just be me tho....Rhody15 wrote: ↑3 years agoIf you're telling Dambrot to get control of his program because they're having players leave and almost losing to Fordam at home, going by your logic, you would have to say the same about Cox for barely beating (and should've lost to) an 0-7 St Joe´s team (without their best player) at home and our players leaving as well.

He's saying it's false to say that Dambrot and Cox lost control of their respective programs. The comment about the direction of the Duquesne program is ancillary and unrelated to his point about both comments being false.NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑3 years agoI'm not sure they're both false. ......conference tournaments games just give more potential Covid to spread, and put teams in jeopardy of missing actually playing in the NCAA.......make the NCAA a regular season champ the auto bid, populate the remaining field of 64 with invites that are not in a pause......no?

So URI’s dreams of winning the A10 Auto bid would likely be over with no tournament with a current (6-4) record.section(105) wrote: ↑3 years ago ......conference tournaments games just give more potential Covid to spread, and put teams in jeopardy of missing actually playing in the NCAA.......make the NCAA a regular season champ the auto bid, populate the remaining field of 64 with invites that are not in a pause......no?
A10 just announced Yesterday Tournament will be played At Richmond and VCU. Looks like we will have a conference tournament and rightfully so imho.

There’s no difference in a conference tourney vs a Mohegan sun type of tourney.

If they're that concerned about spreading the virus, they shouldn't be playing period.section(105) wrote: ↑3 years ago ......conference tournaments games just give more potential Covid to spread, and put teams in jeopardy of missing actually playing in the NCAA.......make the NCAA a regular season champ the auto bid, populate the remaining field of 64 with invites that are not in a pause......no?
Do they even have data on transmission rate from players during games? Would be miniscule if I had to guess.

Pretty sure rumor mill is saying NCAA is scheduled to address this sooner rather than later. Seems like it’s going to be an “up to you” policy for teams. If there’s teams that are securely in the field of 68 and want to abstain from participating in their conference tournaments you have the green light.section(105) wrote: ↑3 years ago ......conference tournaments games just give more potential Covid to spread, and put teams in jeopardy of missing actually playing in the NCAA.......make the NCAA a regular season champ the auto bid, populate the remaining field of 64 with invites that are not in a pause......no?
I’d guess you see a maximum of 5-10 teams do this. And they’d all be those teams ranked in the top 10.

If conference tourneys don't happen, then the entire season for 90%+ of schools would be pointless.

The Bonaventure coach is good....gets the most of that team. That's been said many times on this board.
Especially since their BB budget is one of the smallest in the A10, if not the smallest.
He seems to be quite content to stay there too, since he's been mentioned before for a higher level job.

How do teams like Richmond, Davidson, St Joes, Sr Bonnies , all keep their HC for years an years, but Uri cannot.

.....OK, I will take a stab at it.......those coaches come into their programs with a developed “system” style of play(call it what you like) AND recruit and retain players that fit those systems.....coaches committed to the system......Cox was hired to keep Fatts here, and he would learn on the job and evolve into a serviceable D1 coach that would catch the classic URI lightning in a bottle years that is not sustainable.....Rhodymob05 wrote: ↑3 years ago How do teams like Richmond, Davidson, St Joes, Sr Bonnies , all keep their HC for years an years, but Uri cannot.
.......and for recruiting, it has been said he is a good/great recruiter......OK was that accolade earned from the Hurley years, where is personal style clicked with recruits, now he heads the war room of recruiting and how does that work?......does he chase athletes with skill sets that he figures he can mold into the team, or chase players that fit his “system”?......plus, now a days chasing recruits with often baggage that comes with transfers......?

Rothstein has his classic warn out sayings, but he couldn’t be more spot on about the A10 cannibalizing itself.
We complain a lot on the forum but there’s really no team in this league this year that’s head and shoulders better than the rest. STL and RICH were supposed to be those teams and they haven’t been (I’m not ignorant enough to pretend COVID hasn’t stalled their momentum but still)

I am not impressed at all with VCU After watching them tonight and Dayton is inconsistent
Looks like Bona has the best chance to dance right now
