Week #5 - Games of Interest
We begin Week #5 with the Rhody Rams in the midst of a three game losing streak, especially troubling was the loss at home to Davidson. All sports message boards are similar in they are a collection of like-minded, deeply committed supporters who regularly exhibit manic-depressive behavior. OK, so we are now down, but basically we have a talented team with many newcomers that have been slow to develop team cohesiveness and consistency. Hopefully this will change. Keep the faith!
In the AP poll, Wisconsin moves up to #9 position. In the others getting votes category, Richmond got 142 votes, Saint Louis got 64, and Western Kentucky got 2.
In the USA Today/Coaches poll, Richmond moves up 2 to #23 with Wisconsin at #9. In the others category, Saint Louis got 21 votes.
Gonzaga remains the nation's #1 team in the both AP poll and the Coaches' poll.
The cumulative record of URI's seven OOC opponents is currently 33-21, 0.611.
With the loss to Davidson, the key URI metrics took a hit, but on a brighter note, URI remains in the top quarter of the 357 DI teams:
NET - Not yet available.
BPI - 81, down 3
Pomeroy - 77, down 3
Sagarin - 80, down 6
Monday action in the A-10 :
VMI at George Mason, 1 PM. On ESPN+.
Bryant at UMass, 4 PM. On ESPN+.
St. Joseph's at #8 Tennessee, 6 PM. On SECN.
No games involving URI OOC opponents:

I believe that Bryant-UMass game is also on NESN.

George Mason edged VMI, 68-66. Watching GMU blow a comfortable 8 point lead in last two minutes with bonehead plays, defensive lapses and missed FT's was mind boggling.

Nobody’s going to care if we beat Bryant. The only way URI will ever get the respect it deserves from the state is if we beat the fairly ridiculous chickenshit mental hospital’s brains in year in and year out.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑3 years ago Bryant wins. Bryant had a great game plan going into this game and they neutralized Tre Mitchell holding the big guy to 12 points. The Bulldogs won on some great shooting and out rebounded a taller UMass team and they needed all this to offset their 22 turnovers.

In today’s “clueless post showing the poster has little basketball intelligence,” I present you this!Billyboy78 wrote: ↑3 years ago Bryant wins. I think it's time we play them every year instead of PC.
Yea, let’s play a Home and Home with an NEC team, with a bad NET, sacrifice thousands of dollars in home game revenue, sacrifice a nationally televised game, and damage our resume if we were to lose.
All because they just beat a UMass team tonight, which was Bryant’s SECOND A-10 win ever? Give me a god damn break.
Stay tuned tomorrow to see our next clueless post!

URI's next opponent, St. Bonaventure, has only played two games due to pandemic and they got more bad news this morning as they learned that tomorrow night's game versus Buffalo has been canceled because of a positive Covid test in the Buffalo program.

Re: Week #5 - Games of Interest
Damn, Bryant is really making some noise this year - both on and off the court. They almost beat Syracuse in their building, then Coach Grasso beat Boheim for making pathetic excuses why the game was so close. Then they beat UMass and do a much better job defending Tre than we did. And they did it with non-stop effort. Love these quotes from their coach in Bill Koch's article today:
"We don't hold the ball and try to run the clock.
it's the way we play. It's our style."
"These are kids who were recruited higher than them and have bigger reputations than them. So I think our guys came in with a chip on their shoulder and had something to prove."

Re: Week #5 - Games of Interest
Yes, Tre Mitchell put in 30 and 34 points in the two URI-UMass games last season. We made him look like an All-American. Cox better review the film of the Bryant game and come up with a better game plan to contain the big guy.

SLU is head and shoulder above everyone else. UR 2nd but distance between them and SLU is much greater than distance between them and 3 thru 6. Losing Sherrod was a big hit to their prospects this season.

The Richmond loss at home is particularly bad because it means the Spiders will drop out of the top 25 in the USA Today/Coaches poll. There is currently no other team to fill the gap especially since Saint Louis lost at Minnesota on Sunday. VCU and Dayton are possibilities

On the strength of a strong first half, Boston College snapped its 4-game losing streak by defeating Maine, 78-62 . In BC's previous game, the Eagles had suffered their worst home defeat in Conte Forum history when Syracuse beat them, 101-63.

Davidson gets nice win over SEC Vanderbilt, 85-65. Other than a brief lead in first half, Vandy trailed most of game. Davidson won the rebounding battle, 47-29. The Cats margin over Vanderbilt at the FT line was 25-8.

Exhibit A of people caring about PC on this board.
If posters are gonna post “nobody cares about PC,” but then we have comments like this, the optics look pretty bad.
No need to comment on every single loss they have. They’ll win games, they’ll lose games.

A couple of years ago Rhody lost home games to Fordham and Lasalle. The chat board went crazy. One “fan” kept repeating that the season was over. As we all know the rams won out and went to the dance. That fan basically stopped posting.
15 writes that there is no need to comment on every single loss they have (pc). They will win games, they will lose games. How about applying that to Harris. He will have good games and bad ones. To the surprise of a few, he is a student athlete. Odds are he will not play professionally. He plays for the love of the game. It’s easy to criticize from the cheap seats. Have we forgotten how Garrick played early in his career? Happy holidays! Go Rhody!!!!
