On December 4, 2017, Fatts Russell was named Atlantic 10 freshman of the week after scoring 20 points in wins over Brown and Providence.

Would love to hear Cox explain why he only played 11 mins yesterday. He needs more PT.

Re: Ish Leggett A10 Rookie of the Week
In 6 games Leggett's minutes have been
15
15
12
15
25
11 vs Wisconsin
Leggett is:
2-4 for 3Ps = 50%
13-21 FG = 62%
13-16 FT = 81%
His defensive intensity is great.
His shooting efficiency, defensive prowess and his leadership say he needs to play more than 11 minutes. Wisconsin was his lowest minutes of the season so far.
We need efficient shooting, not just shooting
Need to play budding stars like Leggett more to get him ready for A10 play. We need shooting - our biggest weakness the past 2 years.

And the reason he got more minutes in game #5 is because Carey was out. But I agree, he deserves more.ramster wrote: ↑3 years ago In 6 games Leggett's minutes have been

Re: Ish Leggett A10 Rookie of the Week
Ish might look the most competent overall on offense.
His decision making is better than everyone's. His drives are strong and in rhythm. Shot a little funky looking but he's taken everything in rhythm. Plays totally within himself.
We make less mistakes with him on the court.
More minutes for ish!

Re: Ish Leggett A10 Rookie of the Week
Kid has earned the right to play more. It’s tough to get him the minutes he deserves, without going smaller than Cox probably wants too. Because the reality is, you’re not lessening Fatts and Jeremy’s minutes. And I think you need the slashing and scoring potential that Carey has, in the rotation. So the guy who may have to be out, is Malik Martin. I now he’s better than he’s shown thus far, but he looks ineffective offensively and doesn’t impact the defensive side as expected. He’s the only candidate on the perimeter. Proceed to look at him as a small ball four man, opposed to a flat out wing. That may open up some minutes. Other than that, the youngster is just gonna have to wait his turn.
But when his time comes, watch out!!

Re: Ish Leggett A10 Rookie of the Week
Wtf are you all even talking about? He played 25 minutes in the game prior to WISCONSIN , his time will fluctuate, and I’m sure 11 minutes will be an anomaly by the end of the season. It was apparent Cox was trying to play as big as he could against WISCONSIN, it didn’t pan out well. Part of the growing pains.

We don’t know that. He played solid minutes the game before. Bottom line, when Fatts leaves his minutes won’t be an issue.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑3 years agoLike I said, he played 25 minutes because Carey was out.DC_Rams wrote: ↑3 years ago Wtf are you all even talking about? Re: Ish Leggett A10 Rookie of the Week
I'm not surprised Ish is getting low minutes right now. David is thinking his best team and best chance at a postseason run will be one with experienced guys playing the most minutes, and he is planning for the freshman crash towards the end of the season which can happen a lot unless your name is Carmelo Anthony or Anthony Davis.
The best coaches will take the first handful of games to play their upperclassmen and get a feel for the roster by inserting young guys into certain spots, then like a month or so in work in more minutes to the early standouts, and by the final month of the season you have the guys you will go to war with through the postseason, no matter freshmen or seniors. I could see Ish playing 25-30 minutes/game consistently by then if he keeps contributing like he is.
It is just so out of whack this season with no scrimmages and starting on November 25, that we really can't make rash adjustments just yet. It is just over 2 weeks in and Ish could regress a bit and Carey could average 15 points/game in conference play, who the hell knows? If coach flies by the seat of his pants based on who made their last shot that does the overall team no good as far as lineups and chemistry.

Re: Ish Leggett A10 Rookie of the Week
Ish Leggett deserves more minutes! I understand he's a freshman. I understand we have a deep team. Play the kid that works his ass off every possession and clearly gives this team a spark when on the floor. The ONLY time he played over 20 minutes, he was arguably our best player.
If you disagree, check out his stats.
Field goal %-64% (1st on the team)
3 pt %- 40%- (3rd on the team)
Free throw %- 78% (4th on the team)
Offensive Rating- 138 (2nd on the team)
Defensive Rating- 106 (1st on the team)
Player Efficiency Rating- 20.1 (1st on the team)
Minutes Per Game- 15.6 (9th on the team)

Dead on. Kid is the only guard who has consistently brought it every single game.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑3 years ago Ish Leggett deserves more minutes! I understand he's a freshman. If you don't play him more and he transfers, this will be a huge loss and the next NCAA tournament will get even further from our grasp.

Wow. I knew he was precocious for a freshman, but that is really Impressive. The future Ish bright!steveystuds06 wrote: ↑3 years ago Ish Leggett deserves more minutes! I understand he's a freshman. Re: Ish Leggett A10 Rookie of the Week
Malik Martin played 9 minutes the last game. Ish played 16 (11 in 2nd half). DJ played 24 minutes.
Mlik is going to be pushed to the very back of the rotation.
If the opposing team is playing a three guard lineup, Ish can play the 3rd guard (like he did at the end of Seton Hall game).
If it’s a two guard line up, he is going to eat into Sheppard’s and Fatts’ minutes bringing them to a more reasonable 26-28 minutes/game.

Re: Ish Leggett A10 Rookie of the Week
I love Ish. I think he is going to be a great player. But, let's not forget, he's not a highlight on other teams scouting reports just yet. We are going to have to see how he handles the pressure as teams focus on his game more. I've seen this board get plenty excited on freshman who are playing well, then the focus is on that player, and this board goes insane the first bad game. Keep it in perspective people!
