Agreed. And there are certain programs where he seems to be pretty much dead on with his information. He was on it with Hurley, and that trend has continued with Cox. If he says it, I feel pretty confident if it's Rhody related.SmartyBarrett wrote: ↑4 years agoZags is sneaky because he won't make a prediction unless he's pretty sure, which is why his track record is so good. In any event, good news for Rhody. Fingers crossed.

Re: '18 NY PG - Jalen Carey (Syracuse Transfer)
This player has more than good enough ball skills to fit into Cox high post sets. The pure point guard handling the ball 80% of the time is dead at URI.
This is a monster get for Cox. 21/22 offense is gonna light it up!

“This is a monster get for Cox.” Huh?
Couldn’t this have waited, until, ya know, we actually get him? (If we even do.)
Just like how it was “confirmed” Antonio was coming here then chooses a school not even in his final 3...

Nothing is a sure thing until it's a done deal, the paperwork is complete and the player is on campus.

I don't care what position he plays. You don't pass up on a talent like this. He would be an incredible get.

No Rhody15, they are not saying pass him up, posters rarely pass up on any names brought up here. But Billyboy is saying Carey is a strong talent. He is not a 350-450 or unranked player like many we have seen during the months of April to May.Rhody15 wrote: ↑4 years agoI don’t think anyone is saying we should pass him up.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑4 years ago I don't care what position he plays. It's ok to get hyped up for a player like this. Likely immediately eligible, #38 Ranked ESPN similar to Iverson, Robinson, Terrell and Matthews. He was in the starting line up for ACC Syracuse his 3rd and 4th games his Freshman year to start his career. Excellent player to take a chance on. Exactly why it's beneficial to hold a scholarship or 2 open for opportunities like this.
A player who we were mentioned with 4 years ago and now seems a serious possibility and has been very lighting talked about - only 1-2 pages. Rare for KB. Love these kinds of surprises!!
If we swing and miss on him so be it, but I'm impressed that we are in the running at this point - good stuff.

How do we think he’d be immediately eligible?
But yea even if he does sit a year, 100% take him.

Re: '18 NY PG - Jalen Carey (Syracuse Transfer)
I'm all in Carey like everyone else. I may have missed it but why did Carey's minutes dwindle so significantly after his back to back great games to start his freshman year? He never scored in double digits the rest of the season and only played over 20 minutes in a game once following those two games. Was this Boeheim being a turd? Was the starter suspended? Injuries?

He played only 2 games his sophomore year before being injured and sitting out the rest of the season.
This should qualify him for a Medical Redshirt and he has an excellent chance of being eligible wherever he transfers to, based on examples I have seen in the past.

Someone in here said they'd rather develop Ish and Tres than getting Carey. Both can be done at the same time.steveystuds06 wrote: ↑4 years agoI'm in a battle with someone on twitter who is telling me we should pass on him...Rhody15 wrote: ↑4 years agoI don’t think anyone is saying we should pass him up.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑4 years ago I don't care what position he plays. Are they a Friar troll?
Both would be done easily. Ish and Tres will be getting big minutes next year either way. 3 guard rotation and 3 guard sets. Run people out of the gym.

Zag is practically a Hurley family member so this tip is coming from one of them or Cox.

Carey's best game of his College Career came against Hurley's UCONN Huskies squad. Hurley and Cox communicate a lot.

If we can get him, sign him up.
...so many uncertainties given the waiver process. I was never a fan of allowing transfers, but seems like such a discombobulated process with very little clarity. Might as well just open it up.

As we know, things have a way of working out in those cases. They were one of the teams who were showing interest, at least that's what was reported.

From this article when he originally signed with Syracuse it sounds like his goal was to play the point. His favorite player is Russell Westbrook who is a scoring style point guard. URI will offer a great opportunity at point guard following this season

It does, but he may also be delaying because of the state of the US in general.

Re: '18 NY PG - Jalen Carey (Syracuse Transfer)
Seems a little hesitant. Can't say that I blame him, after what happened with Boeheim at Syracuse. Once he was in that doghouse there was no climbing out.
His next destination will be his final destination for college. URI would be just as good a fit as any of those 7 he had narrowed down to. Possibly better, I don't know about the other teams rosters, but he seems like he would fit in with our other players very well.

Here's the tweet. I never posted (or even saw) a specific "time" so I assumed he was referring to the day he was announcing.

Carey has not made public a list of schools he is down too. No list of 5 or 7 or any schools mentioned by him. Previous media reports have indicated that Carey has received interest from Marquette, Creighton, UConn, Georgetown, Alabama, BYU and Rhode Island.rhodyfan3000 wrote: ↑4 years ago Seems a little hesitant. Carey was not in Boeheim's doghouse last season since he hurt his hand and only played the 1st two games of the season. Tough also to have the Head Coach's son taking up to 40 minutes per game playing time in a similar position to what you play.

Re: '18 NY PG - Jalen Carey (Syracuse Transfer)
If he was going to commit to URI you would think he would do it today. With everything that goes on in college basketball it seems like some other team may have jumped into the mix. He still may sign, but I know from being in sales that when something lingers it is never good. He may still come to URI with it being a good fit for him, but people get in these kids ears. I guess we will see.
