Lamar Odom was a lottery pick and #4 overall. Several levels above damn near all of the players who are compared to him on here.

I agree with rhodyfan3000, he can do well under the right coaching. His freshman year at Syracuse he averaged 15 pts/8 rebs in the postseason NIT., so he did have flashes He was a total stud in high school and played on St.Anthony's championship team. Willard get suspended several games for tampering when he transferred to SH.

Again, brilliant on offense, not aggressive at all on Defense, actually shies from contact. I mean, Lamar wasn't great on Defense either, but he did get into foul trouble occasionally which indicates he was willing to try. I think it was really telling that TT played 25 mins vs Kentucky and only had one foul.
I'd call him a poor man's Lamar.
You will notice that Seton Hall had a massive drought for scoring in the first 10 mins of the second half in the Providence game, and they were basically forced to put TT in for the better part of the last 10 mins of the game because of his offense.
Lol.
Taurean Thompson and Lamar Odom should never ever be compared as basketball players whatsoever.

Note to self: Never compare anyone in any sense to the almighty Lamar Odom on this site, lest be accused of sheer blasphemy.
ex. Hey, I haven't seen a big man be able to pass like that since Lamar. [cue the reality police]
Got it.

I don't think rhodyfan300 was necessarily comparing their total talent, he just thinks they have a similar style with the same frame.

Forget it.
The truth is we had a big man prospect for next season in Ousmane. A true back to the basket player with a nice scoring touch, not an oversized wing forward, and he walked and now we'll just have to go without for one season most likely.

Yea at this rate, next season is looking more and more like a bridge year to bigger and brighter things starting with the 2021-2022 season.rhodyfan3000 wrote: ↑4 years ago Forget it.

If Fatts does come back, it sucks he most likely won't play with an NCAA tournament caliber team. He deserves to go out better.

URI will secure a big for next season. Quite a few guys waiting on the other shoe to drop from the NCAA.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
discussion is not dissection, nobody is saying Taurean sucks. Personally I'm just agreeing with Seawright in an attempt to remind fans how talented Odom really was. I mean, I guess I could compare myself to John Stockton and it wouldn't diminish him, so I don't think it's a shot at Odom, just a reminder that Odom was on a completely different level and his lack of defense was better defense than most others with less talent who tried a lot harder. Not that I support coasting on your talents at any level.rhodyfan3000 wrote: ↑4 years ago Is it really necessary to dissect everything that gets written on here?

A big that can score, that's maybe a little soft. God forbid we take a player like that. Leave him for a crappy team like Richmond.

I agree with DC’s comment earlier. If Fatts is back, we have enough guards. Focus on two bigs that are immediately eligible if next season is going to be played.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
After speaking to a high level JUCO coach with D1's on his roster, I was under this impression this was written from the perspective of the junior colleges recruiting, not necessarily schools recruiting the players at a JUCO. Most of the JUCO players aren't currently on campus, and the 4 year schools would have to abide by the NCAA rules on recruiting, not the NJCAA.Rhody74 wrote: ↑4 years ago https://watchstadium.com/njcaa-lifts-in ... 5-13-2020/

Jesus, MVSU is always one of the worst D1 teams in America, and his stats are terrible, albeit he was a freshman.

If he were that size and a banger, I'd say heck yeah.
But, his highlight video is of him lofting NBA threes while his team is down by 20 and 30 points. IDK, I don't think so.

If we are looking for someone who can sink shots from all over and not concerned with defense down low, particularly rebounds, why not just get TT? I don't get why teams are avoiding him like the plague

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
I see. Well, I would be against it if all of our transfers are eligible, or even just two out of the four somehow.
But if we only have 6 players ready to suit up, he's essentially a grad transfer, suit him up. I know Cox loves Defense, but there are ways to hide someone who is a weak link on D, so long as it is just one. That's where I was going to the "L.O." talk before I got hammered. Josh King wasn't a defensive specialist, he came alive in the NCAA tourney a bit, but that was it. But when you barely have enough D1 bodies to suit up, you make lemonade.
I think you'll see teams start considering TT if the NCAA rules against all of the transfers in 5 days.

I wouldn't mind TT for immediate help next year. He was productive his freshman year at Syracuse especially in the post season NIT. I don't see the need right now for Rivers a sit-out who is the same year as the twins.

An international player we may want to look at is Szymon Zapala ( 6'10, Poland), played descent in the the U18 Euro championships last summer. His recruitment is currently open, will probably make a decision end of the month. High majors starting to show interest (Maryland, Wake Forest).

When it comes to transfers, you're still "recruiting" them, plus it's useful to see if we've had any previous contact with them when they were in high school. (Plus, selfishly, another section would be more work for us...)NYGFan_Section208 wrote: ↑4 years ago Should there be a Portal section? In addition to the Recruiting Corner, maybe the Portal portal?

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
I think there's a huge difference between recruiting a high schooler and someone that has been on a D1 team for a season. I'm not sure we're going to get 'impact' high schoolers (or if we should even prefer those now?), whereas you have more to go one with a transfer. But, I DO totally get it on the 'more work' part, too.SGreenwell wrote: ↑4 years agoWhen it comes to transfers, you're still "recruiting" them, plus it's useful to see if we've had any previous contact with them when they were in high school. Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
I think a lot of the guys we start threads on as HS recruits will become transfer recruits in the future. Just the way the game is going. Need to keep recruiting high level talent even if we wind up the second choice.
